*This day had to come when Indian team was totally dependent on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and bowlers. I knew one bad day of Rohit & Virat like World Cup Semi-Final 2015 & Champions Trophy 2017 final, and middle order won't able to handle the pressure. And that day has to be this Semi-Final.*
*Unfortunately, there was never such a situation before in group stage where other batsman were tested. Our top order batted so beautifully throughout the tournament that never allowed middle order to be tested.*

Loma Harsha it’s management & coach who decides batting order , if captain wants then he can chnge the batting order by saying it to coach,,,, bt it was already delayed till Kohli think what was happening. He totally argued with Ravi in middle that what is happening. He was very much disappointed with Ravi in yesterday’s game . Till he came to know what was happening, it was too late 😥😌.
Remember 2011 Dhoni told to coach gary that he will go to bat before yuvi in final , Bt yesterday Dhoni wasn’t captain . Kohli lost his mental space when 24-4 , he didn’t discuss batting order .😥

There is no batsmen to rely upon in the middle order. We needed some stable batsmen like Raina, Yuvraj, Rahane , Raydu to stabilize the innings. Pant & Hardik are still young , lack experience on how to handle the innings

But Indian team n their selection made a mess of middle order by changing continuously n not showing any sort of trust on the players...This shows the temperament of a captain,who is always a looser not prepared for tough situation.

KL Rahul wasn’t playing for India in the World Cup, he was playing for his position in the team. You can see he never played his natural game of scoring fast runs in any match. He was too slow in all the matches even when he scored century. He’s a better number 4 batsmen, give him 10-20 matches and tell him he will play at number 4 in all games and you’ll see his natural game. If Dhawan isn’t fit, get prithvi Shaw and Shubhman Gill, it’s time to build the team for next World Cup. All the bilateral series are good for testing these players for next World Cup.
No it was not underestimation, the first 3 batsmen got out defending. They did try to see off the first 10 overs, but the NZ bowlers were too good.
India were overconfident, all the fans were celebrating finishing top of the table and were saying New Zealand was the 'easier' semi final, doesn't look so easy now.

Rahul has disappointed me big time... First he was playing at no.4(which was not his favorable position). Then fortunately for him dhawan got injured and he was opening( which was his favorable position) then also he underperformed....i really dont know which position he wants to bat. He's not worthy of playing international cricket, Clearly not in seaming and swinging conditions, he's overhyped. Now I'm not saying this by his WC performance I have never liked him since forever. he and Pant are immature, even in that England Tour he underperformed for 4 tests straight and played a worthless inning in a dead match. No.4 should be treated with more priority and WC is not a stage where you keep trying the spot till the Semis, you wanted to go with Kuldeep and Chahal as main spinners and you didn't even let them play all matches whereas Ash and Jaddu would have performed better given the experience and their batting attributes. So yeah Poor Captaincy and selection cost us the match, we gave it away rather than NZ winning it. I knew in the middle group stages that we're not winning the WC when they gave Vijay Shankar XDXD 4 games and he shat his pants all over the ground.

He might have talent but I firmly believe he lacks temperament. Someone like Rahane might have hold his ground better after India were 5-2 than Rahul. Rahul might score a 170 in a game but the next time he comes in he looks vulnerable again. That's how it's been.
Kohli is not a great leader - tactically and strategically he isn't as savvy as the fans and the media make out. Not a cool head which is what is required in situations - although once Dhoni retires it will be interesting to see if it changes his approach and dynamic in the team. Williamson is probably the best as his gets the most out of his limited resources. Reminds me of Stephen Fleming.
@Mr Bhattacharya Seconded, Sachin could never bear the burden of captaincy and was a terrible captain. Once that load was lifted he shone through under Ganguly, Dravid and the most under Dhoni. Kohli shows glimpses of tactics but his over-experimentation with some great talents like DK, Kedar, Rahane, Rayudu and the great man himself, Dhoni, has hurt India a lot. *Not* to mention the useless oaf of a coach that is Shastri.

I don’t get it! How is this loss a result of Kohli’s captaincy ? 240 is not a difficult score to get.. so his bowling choices were fine.. His batting failed just once.. how would a calm mind/cool head win us this game? This loss had nothing to do with Kohli’s character. It’s silly to always point to his character for every loss..
and besides let’s admit, had India batted first and score 240, we would’ve won.. NZ wouldn’t get it..

Do you realize that india won a series in Australia for the first time (under Kohli's captaincy) and you think making it to the finals of the the champions trophy and semi's for the world cup is not good enough. Thanks Harsha for your honest review. All through Dhoni played like this which has put Jadeja under pressure and ultimately he fell. He was unable to hit intermittent boundaries and even was failing to rotate strike too. Situations like this may arise anyday in an international high pressure game but these guys must learn to tackle them the way Jadeja did it. He has been the best for me in this game. If he had Dhonis assistance, we would have seen India through without any hassles. I cant blame Pandya and Pant as their playing style is completely different. Moreover they are mostly sloggers and lack in skills to steer the team to the end slowly and steadily. Honestly, an overconfident side succumbed to their fake ridiculous attitude. We need atleast 1 player who could hold the fort for us like Rahul Dravid did for years.
Honesty I can't buy the reason of "they are just hitters, so they need to be excused", it's fine for a bowling all rounder but if batting is your thing and you cant play according to situation then I think you shouldnt be selected for ODI matches. Keeping the wicket was the important part there, and they failed to do that (even Kohli mentioned that the shot selection were quite poor).
I mean enticing the batsman to go for a big shot is like the first trick in the book of a spin bowler and he just fell for it. Not blaming him for the loss as he is far too inexperienced for that, but if you are only good for hitting and cannot adopt to situations then your presence in the team will always be just as a guy who does good on good days and will not contribute on a bad day. We need reliable batsmen in the middle order.
Slogging and attacking style of play would suit a t20 game and not an ODI. Its clear that both pandya and pant lost their patience as they were conceding dot balls. Its all about temperament in such situations.
I think India needs to work on their middle order. Its good if they are scoring the bulk of the runs, but you cant rely on the top 3 every single day. I think hitters like pant and pandya should come at 5 and 6 and jadeja at 7 would be the ideal one. They need to find out a good solid guy at 4 and a replacement too

This Indian team is a very strong team undoubtedly, even without Shekhar Dhawan. They played very well throughout the tournament. Though 80% of the performances came out from Rohit and Bumrah+hardik+bhuvi. And Jadeja today. I liked the most their Coach Ravi shashtri. Why Dhoni always push the team in a situation like 2 over 30 runs with batsman no. 10 or 11 at the other end. In such situation he wont take the singles and tries to hit boundaries on every bowl. It doesnt make any sense. In 72 ball he hit only two boundaries of which second boundary came on 70th bowl. Harsha rightly said if he had hit few boundaries in between Jadeja woudn't find himself under pressure. He has set this trend for himself throughout the tournament. having said all it was NZ brilliance in bowling and fielding especially catch by Neesham and Dhoni's run out that cost us the match.

The batting order was baffling to me. Whatever you might want to say about Dhoni, he looked the most solid of the batsmen out there and we know he has the capability of playing big innings. Pant, Pandya, Karthik, and Jadeja don't have that. At 5/3 or 20/4, you need a batsmen who can play a long innings. Pant and Pandya are not reliable middle order batsmen yet. They can work as finishers and can make half centuries, but at that point, they needed someone to stick around and make a hundred and Dhoni was the only one who could do that after Rahul got out. Playing him at number 7 was just bizarre. He could have done that at 4 or 5 and guys like Pant, Pandya, Jadeja, Karthik could have made runs around him and India could have had a better chance at winning then.
@Amin Samnani See, I don't want to judge Kedar, Rishabh, and Vijay at the moment because even Laxman and Dravid at one point weren't great ODI batsmen either. But the fact is that Pant is a kid who hasn't even scored a ODI half century yet. How can you have him playing at number 4 in a WC without any experience? Same with Vijay Shankar. A number 4 needs to be a century maker. India's WC 2011 team had Dhoni, Yuvraj, and Raina in that middle order with Gambhir at 3. All of those middle order batsmen could score hundreds. Right now India is just not equipped to deal with a situation where the top order fails completely. Our top order also has a nasty habit of failing at crucial moments and failing quite spectacularly. I mean, its just not ok for your top 3 Batsmen to score 3 runs among them in a semifinal. Now, if they want to breed Pant and Shankar, then need to play them and make sure they are ready to hit hundreds. Because pretty 30's and 40's and getting out to bad shots the way Pant and Pandya did today is not enough to be middle order batsmen at the highest level.
Over dependence on top three is the biggest concern for team india. In 2011 we had the best middle order with Ghambhir, Kohli, Dhoni and Yuvraj.

If Shami was there he might give us 1-2 wickets at start but the score would have read 50 odd for 2 down .and at death he gave 44 runs in the last 3 overs vs eng .so bhuvi was again preferred there .to maintain economy .Shami 5-69 vs eng. a 0-55 would have been very helpful there .as well as Shami payed against afg and wi and ban while bhuvi payed vs pak,aus,sa

The result is a fact which non of us can deny ...the most heavy heart is when knowing that our team was certainly a much better team than NZ in all department , just one bad day for us with luck favoring them the most ...sply in 3 incidents ..1st virat's lbw decision , had the umpire stood with not out n it would hv remained n.o ...2nd Dinesh Karthiks catch a blinder which just sticked on the hand where on most days it wouldn't had...3rd and the most important of Dhoni's run-out ...it was again a blinder ...with one stump visibility ..9out of 10 times it would hv missed ...fortune was with NZ on the day when it mattered the most... india was a much better team than the outcome of this match ...still we love our team n will always be with them...well played india and wish NZ all the best for there finals....
