It was Dhoni's decision to bat at 7, not Kohli's or Shastri's. Kohli may be captain but he doesn't have more power in that dressing room than Dhoni. We've seen Dhoni do the same shit at CSK. Basically he doesn't want to get exposed and fail when the team is in real trouble and save himself some blame when we lose. At the end of the day, we saw our fickle fans blaming Kohli, Rohit, Rahul and Karthik but praising that selfish glory man Dhoni.

A senior player who worked hard and pleaded with team management to give him more responsibility and allow him to bat at number 3. Had a stellar tourney and took a lot of the weight off his team. Virat is responsible for playing inexperienced middle order..He said rahane is our backup opener then he was played at no.4 in south africa then he gave iyer then dropped him after 2 matches..Then rayudu was given chance at 4 and kohli said he is our no.4 then rayudu was dropped..And he brought in vijay shankar who had hardly batted at no.4.. Constant chopping and changes has resulted in this..He has done the same with test team that has resulted in losses at south africa and england..

3 mistakes India made that cost us the Cup.
1. Sending in Dhoni at No.7 (That's just strange)
2. Playing DK/Chahal for Shami (Experts have been saying all along Shami is vital for the semis)
3. Too much obsession for wrist spinning twins throughout (Jadeja was enough. Had to pay at some point. Time to realize that fast bowling is our strength now)

With him on this excellent bowling conditions, NZ would have probably been wrapped in under 200. Virat is a great batsman, but he makes tactical mistakes as a captain on big occasions time and time again.

@Vab please tell me how Dhoni blocking one end soaks up the pressure? when he scores like a turtle, the RR goes up putting pressure on the other batsman. I can understand if he holds up one end by scoring at a SR of 100 and rotating strike but he doesnt do that. So what do we accomplish? Nothing. then why does Dhoni do what he does? The easiest answer is he plays to save his own wicket because at the end of the day, when we look at the books, all we see is averages. Dhoni remains not out, boosts his average and hiis personal status and seals his spot in the 11.

Absolutely. India would've definitely restricted NZ to 180 max coz Shami would've taken wickets up front and put NZ on the backfoot. Picking Bhuvi was right but surely they should have dropped Chahal when they already have Jadeja. Spinners are less effective on these wickets compared to fast bowlers.

I am an Australian so not biased. I said all along the system was not fair. India should have played Australia. The winner goes to the final and the loser plays the winner of New Zealand and England who play in a knock out.
This rewards the teams that came first and second with a second bite of the cherry. Indian did not deserve to go out this way after winning the pool.
