Some people get so mad at smash. I’ve just gotten into the mindset of being impressed when my opponent does something awesome. Now when someone continuously spams the same move, that’s when I start to get tilted.
The best way for me to beat my buddy in smash is to throw a lot of eggs at him because he gets so posses about it. Once he's mad the rest is pretty easy.
Yeah, the #1 trick to avoid becoming tilted is to stop being prideful. When you think you deserve to win, you get caught making johns and reasons why you're actually better even though you're losing. As a counseling intern training to finish my master's degree, the part on meditation really is applicable. Meditation is a part of mindfulness, which involves focusing on the present, as he said, and allowing the mind to process what is happening at the moment and filter stress out. It is used in a variety of ways in counseling and is proven to aid in managing stress and anxiety. Sorry, I don't mean to sound pretentious. I just thought it might be helpful to put a kind of professional seal of approval on the tips in the video.
The mental side of things doesn't get talked about nearly enough in the Smash community. Good on you for bringing it up, and hopefully it'll help some people. Meanwhile, I got tilted by all of those Arcfires in the first clip. It's an advantage state tool, damn it, it's not built to just throw out on a whim like that...
Yesterday I went to a bigger tournament, slightly better than the previous one I went too, I did really really bad, I got 2-0'd both games yesterday and this video helped me a lot... thank you, instant subscribe man
You know, I was sceptical of this at first, but it really helped. I noticed an immediate change in my mentality and bodied a Lucina, which is a character I usually struggle against a ton. Thank you, BananaBoy.
Try to look at the game objectively, like when you watch other people play. It can help you see the mistakes you are making and your patterns. I don't have any tips for doing this, you just end up doing it eventually as long as you know to do it.
Usually I think, whatever that's how the game is, can't change it. Or I'm just like: dang that was sick this guy's good, looks like I'll have to change some of my habits
Thank you so much for the advice @BananaBoySSB Everytime I get nervous, I try to adapt and focus and it works. My toxic mindset is going away and I'm starting to go from calling myself "bad to "what did i do wrong and how can i do better" My tournament results have improved an bit and even though they are not the best, all im thinking of is improvement. Thank you for helping me out, honestly, i wouldn't know how to get better

Most Sundays my cousin and aunt will come to my house to have dinner with us. When playing smash against my cousin, I used to win only around 5% of the time, winning almost no games, but now, my chances have been increased to 30-40% (might fluctuate because I just picked up a new main recently) and I think your videos are the cause, they make me more aware of my mistakes and what I could improve on. I went from being a Dair-spamming toon link in Smash 4 to a G&W in Ultimate who can mix it up and is somewhat good at stringing some hits together, predicting moves and playing defensively. I would just like to thank you, as you've had a very positive effect on not just my play, but likely many others' play, even my outlook on loss. I used to get super upset every time I lost and got tilted at everything, but now I can say "good game", shake the winner's hand and move onto the next game, laughing at taunts and keeping a cooler head. Your guides are entertaining and I will usually only click off if I really need to find a certain video etc.. You have no idea how many people you've helped, and you've earned a sub for that.
Such a good video. I am one of my worst enemies and I suffer from major rage issues. People often forget how much that really effects your chances on improving or moving forward with not just Smash but a lot of things in life. Sharing your own experience on dealing with it may just help a lot of people realise they aren’t the only ones. Thank you
Thank you so much for making me more calm. I used to have really bad anger issues, and you help me out a lot, and I thank you so much for suggesting metatating. This is going to help me for the rest of my life. Thank you so much.
I'm not a competitive Smash player in the slightest, so I'm kinda shocked when I say that I was completely entranced by your video and completely focused on what you said. You've got this genuine honesty about you and your editing worked wonders in conveying what you were trying to say. I could learn a lot from ya man, great stuff =)

This video helped me a lot. I used to get really salty whenever I lost and I didn't understand why I lost, but this video helped me realise that I was afraid to go for combos because I was afraid of not knowing whether something was safe or not, which made me not go for smash attacks when the opportunity arises. So thank you I feel like a better person and player after I made that change.
Mindset is super important. I used to get pretty frustrated after a losing streak, but I've been focusing on just having fun and that's not only made me have more fun, but it's made me better at the game. Thanks to that mindset I'm a Dededelite player!

I recently had a big losing streak online and I got really discouraged. This video was perfect for me to watch after that fiasco. It also helps in real life too because I stress a little bit too much about school everyday. Great video man!
Whoa nice meditation explanation. I’ve found the same results as you. Even taking a deep mindful breath after every stock has improved my mentality leaps and bounds.
I love that a Smashtuber is talking about meditating. I've had therapists suggest it too. If it helps with both college-related anxiety, and Smash Bros., I should really give it a try.
I'd say it's a possible way to deal with losing is by knowing that if you're angry, you *will* lose it might force you to stop and you'll start winning.
Everything happens in the Now. Your memories are only recalled in the present. Your thoughts of the future only occur in the present. Anything and everything occur here and now. There is nothing outside you and at the same time there is everything inside you. We are not something here by fluke. We are the primordial force of the universe coming on as we are. We are not something at the end of the process, we are the big bang, we are the energy that constitutes reality and this universe we occupy. Learning how to accept the present and dwell strictly within the present may take some practice or it may happen spontaneously. Either way it will drastically increase your health and overall quality of life. There is so much energy granted to us everyday, all we have to do is reach out our hand and grab it. Thank you for this extremely positive video, and as always keep SMASHING. K.O.
1:34 as a mac main i almost always "waste" my first stock. most people see mac and automatically think "wow worst character in the game easy ko" so i capitalize on that and either have 90% of the tricks theyll throw out memorized by the time they take my stock or ill have KO punch. works very well in 3 stock matches specifically. tourneys with multiple rounds against the same opponent can be trickier though
I can totally agree. I don't meditate, but as I grew up playing with my brothers and cousins since SB64, I have learned that, for example, after losing 1 stock almost cleanly without being able to fight back, I just stay still while in the invulnerability time, close my eyes and take a deep breath. It only lasts the few seconds of invulneravility, but doing this empties my mind and relaxes me a bit, and I can notice my play is better. Dozens of times I have won with almost 1 stock (sometimes 2!) of disadvantage with a sharp comeback, only by stopping a few seconds during the match to close my eyes and breathing.
I love playing Smash competitively. It’s one of the main things I look forward to in any day. I treat it as a chill time because that’s what it is and when I get in the groove with my Spotify playlist and Smash Bros. I do a lot better than when I try hard to be better than everyone else and more competitive. When I started out in Smash 4 I got so used to losing that I became numb to losing and it couldn’t bother me anymore. Now I feel I’ve finally developed the mindset to remain focused and quick with a calm mind at the same time. I’m a proud Elite Piranha Plant and am currently having a blast just experimenting online.
i know i'm 4 years late but i'd like to make another point on the meditating thing: it really helps to use a "mantra", a phrase or word or even just a sound that you repeat to yourself with each breath. it adds another level to the focus, and really brings you back from distractions very, very well. you don't even have to say it out loud, i usually opt for saying it in my mind.
I really needed this it got to the point recently that if I lost a match I would yell scream or just punch myself which was super dumb and over dramatic thank you
I honestly thought I was the only person with this problem but it makes me feel much better knowing i’m not the only one who can get caught up to much in my mind instead of the game
I’m going to my first tournament this weekend and your videos have really helped calm my nerves and figure out what to do. Thanks for the great content and keep it up!
I always thought of mediation as just not for me but, being able to focus on the present sounds exactly like what I need. A simple change in perspective is all, but this could help. thanks BB
I’m pretty interested in the topic of game mentality, but I didn’t pick it up in Smash. In fact, I didn’t even play a fighting game to start thinking about my mentality. During my time playing Dark Souls 3, I truly learned what I needed to mentally in order to succeed, especially because of the PvP in the game. I initially wanted to just do the funny haha stuff that I saw on UA-cam, but then I got blended to death by gank squads. So, I looked back at the vids I saw, and the one thing I consistently saw players say once they died is “it’s just a few souls(the in game currency and experience points), I can get them back”. Once I took that mentality to my gameplay, and repeated it over and over, it eventually carried over to other games, and now I enjoy gaming as a whole now.
I can say this, I tend to rage alot in these games and I have the mentality that if i'm losing, I will not quit until I am able to win a match, and if the other player is superior, it is going to be a long and hard time for myself, and then I start to lose matches going forward. Always remember there is room to grow, and there is always a way to enjoy the experience, if that experience is loss or victory, just playing a character you like, listening to the stage music or just goofing around with items with friends. You have to learn to enjoy other parts of the game if you're feeling frustrated about one, and that can apply to most anything in life also
How to be calm and not get tilted - hit that blunt and recognize that nothing matters anyway. We're destroying the planet and caging ourselves in with space junk so we can't escape
Honestly i always get really nervous when I'm about to play on a tournament to the point i even start shaking. Today I'm going to a tournament, i hope I'll be able to manage it better thanks to this.
I actually played your inceneroar in bracket last week, and this would have helped so much, especially when I took 40% off the ledge constantly. This would have helped so much
@@allegroemj353 or it can be used before fighting to show that you are friendly and are only playing for fun, if the other player responds with a tbag then they want to have fun. However, if they respond by furiously attacking you... then they simply do not give a single, flying, stinking horse shite about having fun and want to cause pain and suffering. These players most likely main characters such as: Ness, Link, young link, toon link, K rool, richter, simon, pit, and finally... pichu (the ultimate try-hard, overpowered, mess of a character who needs to be either nerfed, or fucking removed.) I would just like to say that i love this game and absolutely despise filthy tbaggers who seem to enjoy provoking others and being completely toxic... but seriously, this game is awesome. NERF PICHU SAKURAI. And one final thing. Cloud. Cloud is cloud. Here is a basic guide to playing cloud and reaching elite smash. ALWAYS begin the match by furiously mashing B. then, when the opposition approaches, reach deep into your mind... traversing time and space, lost in thought. And press side B. Or just side smash. either way, the opposition will be completely and utterly terrified... No, petrified at how clever that combo was, they will surely retreat. After that just approach and finish with a smash attack or something, at this point and at this level of mindless play it doesnt even matter.
Well, I definitely need this. I'm given up on playing competitively because of my inability to react fast enough and universal self doubt in both advantage and disadvantage.
To add to the discussion on meditation: "10% Happier" by Dan Harris is a terrific place to dip your feet if you're interested but skeptical about the practice and want a solid overview of the subject without all the mystical nonsense.
I say ask questions. At work, we had a guy get hired who was a semi pro and his brother was a pro (wish I remembered the names, been a year) and he'd always beat my ass at work in Smash. I finally started asking questions and advice and I got so much better from where I started.
Im not really looking to get competitive but I still do want to get better. Been playing with some co workers but kept losing. I think i am pretty decent but i think i am also practicing the wrong way. Every loss makes me up set but it's like you say, always keep a good mindset.
i really needed this. i think i've got better but i still rage a LOT. i can't stand playing agiants inkling because i never know what to do, and i always get outspaced. i smahed my hand into my wall loosing to a inkling. the player was way better then me, and i had no idea what to do. now fingers on my hand are all blue due to the hit. i really need to take note from this.
It’s hard to have a good mentality when you got to a very low gsp and only get in matches with items and hazards against ganons and just watch your gsp go down to 85,000 every other game

You have to learn to enjoy other parts of the game if you're feeling frustrated about one, and that can apply to most anything in life also
Thank u soo, much, I really needed a video like this
Banana boy you are the best smash UA-camr I have ever seen. You deserve to go big
My Mentality is i can always go to another tourney or get better.
I actually played your inceneroar in bracket last week, and this would have helped so much, especially when I took 40% off the ledge constantly. This would have helped so much
I'm guessing he bodied you?
@@SegaDisneyUniverse yeah I never had a lead in the set lol
@@adamjessen5378 Oh okay.
This was a good topic to discuss, I'm not into the whole meditation thing but mentality in competitive gaming is a really good topic
These are good tips in most situations, really. It could be a guide to life!
Before even watching. I just try and have fun even while playing competitively.
Meditation between stocks: you have six seconds before the spawn platform disappears. Take one full breath, exhale, play your heart out.
I reeeeeeally needed this, thanks. And let’s go Banana Boy
Another great thing you can do to help your mentality is to tbag your opponent midmatch. Really makes you feel good
T Bagging just lets your opponent know you're salty.
@@captainwordsley Whoa there, buddy. You didn't need to go on a rant XD although lightning chains w/ pichu are ridiculous.
@@pikiyu lmao, probably should tbh.
@@allegroemj353 got a bit carried away, and yeah, pichu is a little too good for my liking
Man I really like how you teach meditation and tries to help people in general. Short, but nice video
Excellent! I don't have this issue as much anymore but can guarantee this video is helpful! Keep it up
The best smash guide ever. Thank you
I say ask questions. At work, we had a guy get hired who was a semi pro and his brother was a pro (wish I remembered the names, been a year) and he'd always beat my ass at work in Smash. I finally started asking questions and advice and I got so much better from where I started.
This is going to be really useful when I do a side b instead of an up b with Marth when offstage
Im not really looking to get competitive but I still do want to get better. Been playing with some co workers but kept losing. I think i am pretty decent but i think i am also practicing the wrong way. Every loss makes me up set but it's like you say, always keep a good mindset.
I’ve been trying to meditate everyday and it really helps, especially helps me focus more in SSBU
I’m going to try this, I’m starting to get into the competitive scene for SSBU and I need to chill out sometimes 😂
This is actually great advice not just for Smash really I can actually use this advice to better myself in soccer thank you for your wisdom
Gosh this helped me alot
What a good video on learning to be calm!
i really needed this. i think i've got better but i still rage a LOT. i can't stand playing agiants inkling because i never know what to do, and i always get outspaced. i smahed my hand into my wall loosing to a inkling. the player was way better then me, and i had no idea what to do. now fingers on my hand are all blue due to the hit. i really need to take note from this.
This is a very different smash video but a very good one as well
That video just got me hooked up for your channel mate
It’s hard to have a good mentality when you got to a very low gsp and only get in matches with items and hazards against ganons and just watch your gsp go down to 85,000 every other game
Dude, you’re a wise man and you have a pretty voice. Thanks for this vid
I will absolutely try this. Thank you.
Good video. Meditation will enhance any skill. Meditation is not only a spiritual practice; it is a basic mental health exercise.
4:54 "Breath in"
Don't forget to breath.
I think the funniest part is that I didn’t get mad at my first tourney after going 0-2 in bracket twice with the mindset that I’m not gonna win because people are better than me
THANKS AS ALWAYS! Good luck at LAN King!
