I dont know if they have changed him or not like they always do with characters nowadays but Gambit used to be about beautiful women and was never interested in men before.
They actually upgraded his powers about 10 years ago so he can now understand body language and basically turned him into Cassandra Cain
He showed up in Daredevil a while ago as a master coder, since his powers mean he can understand any coding language too
I had this exact conversation before seeing the episode. It was hilarious to see someone else bash Cypher and Gambit.
I would've loved to have heard an indignant Archer respond with something like "With his ability to translate any language and interpret data, he's the X-Men's ultimate intelligence asset, PAM."
No, that would have been shit.

funny thing is they've been trying to have Iceman come out since the early 90s! It was implied he needed to come out to accept himself so he could use his powers to their full potential

It's funny, because there are gay X-men, Northstar and Anole. And there's some bisexual ones like Psylocke, Fantomex and Daken. And then there's Danger who's omnisexual.

I try to ignore that. Making him gay was just a publicity stunt and it was done very poorly. They were like "Hey Iceman, you gay or what?" and he was like "I guess I am?"
ACTUALLY Daken is asexual, he just uses sex to get things out of people and to manipulate them.

99% of the time Cypher is useless because one of the telepaths can just give everyone instant knowledge of a language. He's only useful with actual cyphers and codes.
And even then you have tons of other brainy characters that can crack cyphers and hack tech

Cypher's power actually made him a great strategist, hacker and spy. When he got full access to his power after the resurrection he became an ultra-skilled fighter as he could read and counter-react to any attack... So I guess Archer's writers haven't read much about Cypher?

@@mrroboshadow mmm... actually, the fact that he could speak and understand and translate ANY language, always included the potential to rehash his own and another's DNA, and I think Claremont always had a character arch planned for Cypher, from making him "useless" to develope him into the most powerful member of the group and an essential Omega mutant, with time. Claremont is well known for creating archs that would pay off years, even decades later. And Cypher is a character created with obvious perspective that would be more and more important in the future, as computers would become more extended and popular and key for the world's development. Cypher was never lame, just was a slowburn fascinating character.

James Machuga Cypher is a mutant who's power is to understand any language he comes into contact with. I mean ANY language. While impressive, he's not exactly someone you take with you during a fire fight. Though that never stopped them for some reason.

yeah I grew up a Marvel design fan, so most DC character design aesthetics at least druing the 70s-80s never appealed to me as a kid...especially Teen Titans.
yeah for time i jumped back into the 80s following all alan moore stuff...long stoey short, i fell through a comicbook rabbit hole from a mixture of Alan Moore, Grant Morrison and Jodorowsky, and now i find myself wandering around the unbridled, non-PC, unapologetic, non-cinema conscious world of Euro Comics. Im currently 95% retired from reading american mainstream comics...except maybe for Swamp Thing.
