Great video, I was stuck on stupid, about the very difficult second yellow retainer clip. I followed you instructions, I released and separated rod from the yellow clip. Unfortunately the bolt the fastens the key barrel to the door handle was stripped and spun in place. Important thing is I got the handle out. Thank you for the informative video.
Hey thanks a lot for the very nice video! I followed this carefully and fixed my passenger side exterior door handle! The hardest part is indeed when I have to put the rod into the hole for the lock. It took me almost an hour to get the hang of it. The trick is to try to put it in in a position that is natural to the rod. The position where the hole is closest to my eyes is not a position easier for the rod. The rod has to be bent in the right 3D shape. So I gave up that position after about 45 minutes. Then I asked my wife to turn the lock slowly backwards and I noticed that there is a spot to the right and higher than the lock where the rod is pretty much free of tension and very close to the hole. Then I put it in in under 5 minutes. Talking about a trick! I used after market handle, which only cost me like $12. I know Toyota part is better, but I don't feel like paying $120 for it. So the one from eBay came in. The eBay one does not work with Toyota self-tapping screws. And it is quite hard to find the right screw for it. But I noticed that if I use a bigger screw with a tapper and then add some washers, it will work. I guess that is also why you see that big washer which won't work with OEM Toyota parts. It all makes sense now. My 2001 Camry is 23 years old now with 170k miles. The engine and transmission are rock solid. But the windows and doors are trash. I have replaced all the windows 1.5 times. I asked a shop to fix my driver's door handle. But I decided to fix the passenger one myself and your video truly helped!
If this problem goes too long without being addressed you can get to where neither the inside _or_ outside handles function anymore. Unfortunately, when it's this far gone you have to cut a hole thru the interior plastic trim (I typically use a hole saw for this) in order to gain access to the interior release rod to manually open the door. You can then perform the repair and obtain a replacement interior plastic door trim piece from your local pick your own parts salvage yard.
@@DrShock that’s beautiful, as I look through my blue screen fish eye camera, to try and observe things without disturbing too much. I’m definitely gonna try and work that into the tool pack. I think if I can get that size screen with that clarity, plus the ability to turn the camera from a handle…..I might just shed a tear at that prospect. I’d go up to three hundred for a product like that, even if it will require knocking something else out the budget for a month or two.

What camera model number is that
It's an older ES452, discontinued model.

I got my door handle off on the outside. But it still won’t open from inside or out. I think something is wrong with the latch. Any help?
