- Опубліковано 6 чер 2024
- This week's DW Business Special takes a closer look at China's attempts to save its floundering real estate market, and asks what happened to the explosive growth the world's second-largest economy had gotten used to enjoying. George Magnus from Oxford University's China Centre explains why he's not hopeful about Beijing's plan to turn things around.

This was fantastic. You let him speak completely, taking time to get the thoughts out instead of going for that soundbite. Very well done!
Are you her mother your comment seems totally out of place this is about the economy not how nice people are
@@elliotlambert3817 At least he bothered to used punctuation.
@@elliotlambert3817 It is more of a comment on how poorly many interviewers act that letting someone finish speaking is worth noticing. It always annoys me when an interviewer starts speaking over an expert or other guest, especially when it is to change the topic or argue with them.
They literally founded the most anti-China person, and allowed him to speak without any opposing opinions. 🙄
Usa is biggest trading partner of China and then lecture eu ro distance itself from China
Just a note, I love how they left the production problems in the video instead of editing them out. It shows a very good working environment and how everyone's human. It was probably unintentional and might be taken out when they notice it, but I kind of like seeing them have connectivity issues and that background clicking and whatnot. Love DW! :-)
It will be alright on the night!
The very real and biggest problem they don't talk about .
Eventually the biggest developed nations will run out of everything .
( China is just the best worst example here )
With the destruction of the natural world increasing , we'll all run into that same direction : our end .
When will economists acknowledge that we live in the Age of Mass Extinction of not only Plant and Animal Species , but of our Human race as well and an economic race to the bottom ??
Without nature and wildlife we cannot survive .
( where's that in any economy model ?? )
Never - ending " growth " is an un- sustainable model , in any way .
We need to find a new ecology - based economic model that puts us 3rd : 1st nature , 2nd wildlife .
We need to consume less .
We need basics , not more high - tech .
Nobody educated , learned , " expert " , talks about that .
We suffer , crash because we don't learn or look ahead featuring in all implications ,
instead of switching to adapt while we still could .
Nothing in these DW films shows the real consequences , just like these investments , Wallstreet only show the money aspect ever .
( = exploit nature / take habitats away / create all these problems that we now have )
What is needed is responsible living that would start with ZERO trash , sustainable farming , sustainable manufacturing .
We can survive better or only?? without any more charts that only measure progress in money terms .
( if we all have local food to eat and live sustainably , we won't suffer from any financial recession
or crash , because it won't really matter // we should focus on local and sustainable before
anything else // what will save us is definitely not robots or high - tech , but some steps back in
time = basics , plain and simple )
We need a simple , sustainable every- day personal life- style .
Responsibility , awareness of all we do .
Agreed. This is why I watch DW. I feel it's a news source I can trust and transparency is part of that. She really kept her head on and just went right with the flow. Consummate professionals.
@@marionpfander8752 Excellent comment. Government all over the world need to face these challenges and have to change their policy dramatically to improve the sustainable living.
As a broadcast journalist I'd have done the edit. This piece doesn't have to fit a specific broadcast timeslot, so cut it so it flows more easily. Case in point, we're all talking about the error.
A little different than the very professionally done DW I’m used to. But I’m not upset or disappointed because it’s nice once in a while to see the raw unedited reel. Keep it up DW 👍🏻❤️

If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life.

It is a relief to see that DW has the same occasional technical problems as the BBC. I thought it might be just us!
DW is German XD we are a nation that's basically a tech problem
@@TheUA-camUser69 dont be so harsh on youself. The quality of the content is more important than the technical issues of thr presentation of the info

DW is always tops in my viewing list. So truthful and realistic no pretenses. Good work.
Been hearing all these news about china's downfall for about 10 years, but yet they've just keep expanding and thriving.
If china can get 900 million citizens out of poverty in about 40 years... I'm not so sure about all these so called realistic news.
I wonder.. if ppl ever look at both sides of the story and not just the things they want to hear.
Yeah I love them because they hate china
you had the anchor to re-do the part that they lost connection just for you to upload it without editing?
I too, like others, enjoyed the realism displayed in this interview. Thank you!

This is not a guessing game... it has reached a point of no return. 1. Those ghost cities cannot be erased... learn to deal with the half build buildings and its loans 2. Those finished building with poor construction quality or half finished apartments sold to ordinary citizens need to be completed... get more loan 3. Just visited by an extended family couple, they had enough of CCP’s
“Zero COVID” policy and left the country for the near future. They said lots of older Chinese citizens have no confidence on Chinese COVID-19 vaccines and refuse vaccination, that’s the main reason for the policy.
And the earth is flat.
@@Kris-ib8sn 100% agreed. My relatives are American expats and they know the truth. CCP would rather let it’s elder population die than purchase effective vaccine from the West.

This anchor is talented AF. She didn't miss a beat, even when the feed went wonky. Respect!
If the Chinese economy suddenly becomes very bad for various reasons, countries such as Germany and other countries that have invested heavily in China will also be hit very hard. Germany has invested far too much in China and far too little elsewhere. And if it goes wrong, it will spread like wildfire to many countries in Europe. Germany completely overlooks that. The Western countries must be much better at investing in other countries, and there are plenty of opportunities than China. Perhaps there are some countries that are allowed to invest more in China than others because it has a Chinese interest. For example, countries that have more power than other countries, which China can later have an influence on, when they are caught in the Chinese network.
It is sad that those rich EU companies decided to invest heavily in china. How did those shortsighted companies made so much money in the past. Ordinary people like you can see that it is a problem. The world is not fair. The wealth should be given to the people with vision and right judgement
Scholz already closing deals with Vietnam, greetings from Brussels 🙂
"...there are plenty of opportunities than China." Yeah, like where? And please don't mention anywhere in Europe.
Europe has plenty of opportunities in itself but most of the investments at this point are to have access to the Chinese market.
No one goes to China for low wages anymore. Just look how fast they built the tesla factory.
German wants no influences from others, but loves to make money. Is that possible in doing business?
Germany following the USA hating on others success will only bring themselves down.

Anti China articles sells well in the west. so its a good gig that pays well.
his articles are opinion pieces. so he is free to stretch the truth.
if you really want the reality. I would listen to the Siemens CEO, his take is more accurate. He is staying and increasing investment in China.

Sam, Xi and the CCP are fearful of the Chinese proletariat; wherein education invites comparison to the West, and just as Xi cannot countenance a flourishing Taiwan, his people cannot be trusted. Speculation in the housing market creates the situation we have in Australia and which seems to be occurring in Europe. It creates a wider gap between those with wealth and assets and those without. The idea that people who aren’t interested in being rich are lazy and unworthy of support is a lie, which is how those who are really just fearful and therefore greedy justify their behaviour.
Michelle, all of life is a speculation, as Bernard Baruch observed. Those who seek wealth need not justify their behavior; anymore than others need to excuse lack.
@@thomasbradley2225 That’s quite a declaration. All life is ‘a’ speculation. If that’s the case why would we bother having one? What in your philosophy does ‘speculation’ mean?
