That close was beyond legendary. The last time he did that was against Coleman to run a 9.85. If he has this same speed with a better start in the 200… that world record could very well be broken. Props to Noah but all the other runners who really showed up and did their best 🔥
Noah Lyles closed so fast, but one thing I noticed, was that Thompson was stressed and not relaxed. His teeth were gritted and not relaxed while Noah Lyles was more relaxed, I feel like Kishane would have won if he had relaxed
thats the thing about the olympics, lots of pressure and some cant handle it... that being said thompson still did pretty well given its his first time with this kind of pressure running a 9.7
That's the point. It's not just about who's been the fastest, it's who can execute under pressure in the big moments. Noah being last he could've easily panicked, but he's mentally tough. That was always going to be in Lyles' favor over everyone in this field.

I'm not the biggest fan of Noah but this 100m performance was truly amazing. The fact he got the slowest start and chased down a 9.7 sprinter like Kishane to win by such a small margin was insane. To come from so far behind to win in such a stacked final was truly magnificent to watch. This final was the greatest men's 100m final since the golden era of Usain and co. Highly doubtful it's accurate if you look at other splits and the peak and trough trends. Simbine 0.81 is not reality. Lyles given his fastest split in 90-100m is wrong
Well the commentator claimed that Julian A was now the fastest woman in the world. That supports Noah being the fastest in the world. Now he has a title for the next four years.
Give Noah his due: he has put USA name back on top against all odds when everyone were betting against him medalling. He has proven a lot of people wrong, established himself as the fastest sprinter in the world (World Champion and Olympic Gold medalist), and continues to raise the profile of the athletics worldwide where no one else come close. I venture to say that at the next Worlds, he will successfully defend his 100 and 200 m titles. This man is a beast and shows up when it matters. The debate over the title of "fastest man in the world" actually makes me think of the rivalry between Kerr and Jakob. In 2023, Kerr won gold over Jakob, the world leader in the 1500m, in the world championships. It reminds me of hearing quotes like Kerr was just "the fastest on the day", or hearing other things like he ran the "1 out of 100" race where be won instead. I think it draws parallels to this Olympic final. Just like Kerr did last year, Lyles showed up and preformed when he needed to at the biggest stage, even though he wasnt the world leader. It can be argued whether or not you call this final that "1 in 100" race, but it is very similar in how what many people called Thompson the clear champ the day after he ran 9.77 looking very relaxed just how people said Jakob was unstoppable after he ran 3:27. Just a thought.
In that high jump competition, both men cleared the same height (and neither lost on misses). In this 100 meters, one man crossed the line before the other. That’s what the instruments are capable of precisely measuring. The one that crossed first gets the gold. A tie is possible, but the timing system in this instance shows a difference at the thousands of a second. There’s no need to call it a tie.
I think every one of them should get a gold as a participation medal since there were all within .12 seconds of one another. There's no reason to hurt anyone's feelings. We also need to check everyone's pronouns before each race. They didn't do that either.
i think a huge part of Lyles win was Kerley running beside Thompson, every other race iv seen him run in he has looked so relaxed and cool but in that final he had some serious strain on his neck and face, as commented by someone else below Thompson hasnt really had world class competition next to him so he had that tunnel vision working its magic, i think Kerley being there and being there all the way to the tape unnerved him and put him off his race which is to be expected for someone with next to no international competitions under his belt, when running at the very top of the game like these guys where not just 100ths but 1000ths of a second make the difference anything that upsets the harmony whether physical, mental or emotional can hamper ur chances, helluva race and it was everything we hoped for
I understand your point, but I disagree with your logic. I would consider the “race” as the entire event. If someone told me they competed in the “fastest marathon,” my mind wouldn’t assume someone ran the marathon WR within that race. I would think that race would have the fastest average times of the finishers.
Seville probably got injured in last meters - he slowed his last steps and looked rather in pain. Without that, we would be close to Bednarek and Tebogo and we would have a full sub 9.9 race.
Lyles is a fan: “I watched a few videos. I watched Total Running Projections. I’m a big fan of the UA-cam channel. I watched … people playing video games. Then I fell asleep”
@1:04 From that angle you'd think that Thomson had won because his and Kerley's feet are past the line whereas Lyles is barely touching the line, but you can clearly see that Lyles is dipping harder than Thompson, and Kerley not at all. That was the difference. Had Kerley or Thompson dipped more either would have won.
Correct. The overhead shot at the wire shows more of Lyle's back and his lead foot barely at the line . . . just a little of Thompson's back and his foot across the line . . . and none of Fred's back and even more of HIS foot across the line.
That shows how Lyles leaned his torso for the win while Fred leaned the least. And Fred's lead leg is way extended out as if that would help him win even though he had little lean. And Kishane was in between on the lean and the leg reach.
@@sam88wise22 And ironically, i don't even think that was Bolt's best performance. 2009 and especially 2012 were much better and puts a massive shadow over anything Lyles has done in the 100m.

That close was beyond legendary. The last time he did that was against Coleman to run a 9.85. If he has this same speed with a better start in the 200… that world record could very well be broken. Props to Noah but all the other runners who really showed up and did their best 🔥
Not sure about world record but he can surely break Olympic Record which is 19.30
Lol...Coulda,Woulda, Shoulda DOESN'T COUNT....FANTASYLAND FANBOY!!!
Olympic record but not the world record
Noah lyles is the fastest human on earth, Noah lyles is king 😂😂😂😂😂
That really was an incredible race to watch. The entire field was so close from start to finish.
great dude!thanks for shouting out to Akani !!
kishane thompson is a 01 baby he got a bright future ahead of him
...as long as he doesn't have too many injuries - the kid is fragile.
Amazing Race! I love me some Bolt but this was exciting to watch. Sooo close with everyone in the race. Awesome 💥
I have to hand it to Noah. He finds a way to win when it counts.
Lyles is the Best, king
Two total running production vids in one day is amazing
And the speed at which they came in. That first one was right after the race! Plus the quality is still top notch. It's pretty impressive.
If it was about Matthew Boiling it would have been 24
All those men laid it out. What an amazing race to hopefully attract new fans.
Noah Lyles closed so fast, but one thing I noticed, was that Thompson was stressed and not relaxed. His teeth were gritted and not relaxed while Noah Lyles was more relaxed, I feel like Kishane would have won if he had relaxed
and if my Grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike... I mean with his average reaction time, Lyles would have gotten 9.75 s...
@@Tomy-im8zl😂 I like that one
thats the thing about the olympics, lots of pressure and some cant handle it... that being said thompson still did pretty well given its his first time with this kind of pressure running a 9.7
That's the point. It's not just about who's been the fastest, it's who can execute under pressure in the big moments. Noah being last he could've easily panicked, but he's mentally tough. That was always going to be in Lyles' favor over everyone in this field.
Y'all excuses are exhausting.
I appreciate your coverage on the men's Olympic 100m dash final. It seems like the women's 100 final as gotten more coverage than the men's 100 final in other platforms
Gatlin was the last American to win gold at the Olympics in 2004. His winning time of 9.85 would’ve been 5th/6th in this race. That’s crazy. Very exciting race to watch
First here would also have been third in 2012
Bolt clear
@@jamielie2117 oh I didn’t realize Bolt was still running. When is his next race?
@@GrandMaster2000 very true. Prime Bolt and Blake had crazy speed. And that third place time was Gatlin (again 😂). That dude was racing at a high level for a long time

I can't believe anyone watches that chump
I think we all owe Kerley and Jacobs an apology. Everyone doubted both going into this Olympics but they both proved us wrong with some amazing sprinting.
Jacobs ran this 9.85 while being injured at some point in the race😂
@@chamindujanith6337 yeah, it was good to see him run a 9.8 again. Hopefully this isn't a major injury and he can still run the 4x100m relay. Italy needs him
Simbine made me so proud to be South African. 2025 we’re get international awards 🇿🇦💪🏾
4th again😂
He would have a hard time being the no.1 South African after this Olympics with the rise of Benjamin Richards who ran the fastest time ever(9.96) not to make a 100m final.
I want to say thank you, TRP, for your dedication to bringing the breakdowns and the hype to athletics this year. I really have enjoyed the journey so far - and its not over!!

Luke
7 of the boys in the final running under 9.9 is insane
....and Seville was slightly injured after the semi in which he cruised and shut down a 9.81.
Best race i ever witnessed wow!!
Noah went from 8th at the start to 7th at 50m to 1st at the finish. Just insane for the 100m!!
This 100 meters journey of Noah Lyles has been an amazing ride and I hope to see more! He brings more attention (internationally), to track and field community. Daring to do what is truly in his discomfort zone makes him a unique figure in the sprinting world!
I will never doubt Noah or Fred ever again
why fred?
@@Mdksupreme1because he’s a gamer. He’s had a rough season, but to run 9.84 and 9.81 in the two biggest races of the year and make the podium is beyond impressive. He’s super clutch. He has 2 Olympic medals in the 100 and people were saying he was crazy to swap events in the middle of his career.
@@Mdksupreme1 Won the bromze despite having a horrible start to the season. Never thought he would podium
Kudos to Kishane for pushing Noah to a PB and every single athlete in the line up for giving us the closest men's 100m final ever. This is what the olympics is about.
Lyles is the fastest, lyles is the Best, lyles is king.
@@eddiemeadows9003 that's actually incorrect. Kishane still has the world lead of 9.77 so he's still the fastest this season lol.
Where are all the fans who exclaimed Noah was gonna take 4th etc😅. I've been saying Noah whether this season or Last have beaten the whole field, so why not now.
Noah running down the entire field is probably my favorite Live Track moment ever. He's the current 60m National Champion & Just broke his PB 2x in one season 😮. That 200m Olympic record is officially on Notice 🤫
I just keep watching it over and over. He was really in last place and ran every single one of them down. Unreal.
especially considering he didn't have as good of a start as we have seen Lyles have before and STILL ran a great 100m time, i truly think hes in sub 19.3 shape. Just needs a great race.
@@na_ksh1t was crazy. I was sad initially because he was behind around 30-50 meters but then we know what happened 😤
@@crystalizedExposedI hope Kenny & Tebogo puts pressure on him
He almost broke his shoulder for that embarrassing "win." All that talk only to get a win given not earned😂 He was stressed by a guy who never ran in the professional games😂 Imagine what Kishane can do when he gets more experience😂
I always thought Noah was going to pull out the W he always shows up when it matters, but Fred Kerley was the major surprise for me to my knowledge he hasn’t had the greatest season but put it all together when he needed too to get onto that podium. What a final it was! Excitement plus!
can we all remember something, this olympics was historical. this is the first race championship final where EVERY athlete went sub10. its finally happened🎉🎉🎉
Akani Simbine, to us you are gold! Thank you for wearing our national colours and flying our flag with great dinstinction! Wenzile, Siyabulela!
.82 10 meter split = around 27.28 mph, or around 12.195 m/s. That has to be top 5 or 7 fastest top speeds ever.
Highly doubtful it's accurate if you look at other splits and the peak and trough trends. Simbine 0.81 is not reality. Lyles given his fastest split in 90-100m is wrong
@@LukeMinor-b1z i think simbine's split is more of an anomaly than a proof that the whole report is false, because all of the other splits make sense
This was a GREAT breakdown of this particular race and the historical rise of the 100m dash competitors over the last 12 or so years!
-N
I don't see anyone of the current crop of sprinters improving much over their Olympics form.
8th place 30m,40m,50m
3rd 60,70m,80m 90m
1st place 100m with a top speed of 27.1MPH!!
My man brought it home!! Now he can try to double for the first time as an American since 1996 and first back2back 3peat since Bolt 2015-2016!! 200m and relay coming up!! Yes sir!!! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
He was in 2nd at 90m.
Noah lyles is simply the best, the fastest Noah lyles is king ,God is good 😂😂😂😂😂
@@rdizzy1 I doubt that cuz Kerley was 2nd the whole time till the end. Lyles was definitely 3rd until he crossed the line
@@buckdacious Go look at the split times, Lyles was in 3rd at 80, 2nd at 90, 1st at finish. At 90 Lyles had 8.93 and Kerley had 8.94 Thompson had 8.92. Also as another side note, at 50m he was in 7th, not 8th.
What a final for everyone! I was rooting for Noah to win. He got it. Thompson got pushed like never before. Kerley was the biggest surprise to me. What a battle for 2nd place! Simbine had an incredible run! Jacob's hit times he hasn't hit in years. Glad I got to watch it!
This has to be the overall fastest race of all time. Literally fractions of a second (0.13 to be exact) separated the whole pack and all sub 10s. Are you kidding me??
I expected Kishane to win but Noah proved to be a true champion so I must congratulate him. It was a superlative performance. For Kishane this is still a very creditable performance. His is clearly the real deal and one for the future.
If Noah puts a perfect race together, he has sub 9.7 potential.
No he doesnt, he aint running 9.69, I will have to be proven wrong.
Not sub 9.7. He can definitely lower his PB some more, though. Probably 9.76 - 9.78.

Noah popped the clutch and switched gears on them. Just incredible stuff!
Noah’s detractors are mostly Jamaicans who feel that anyone that’s crowned fastest man in the world, is undermining Bolt’s legacy
Bro what Americans have undermined Bolts victory every day saying he’s doped up and Jamaica has some special undetectable Peds that we don’t have here in America. Come on now don’t let your bias get the better of you.
And also NBA fans 😂😂
I'm with Fred, "Good ass race!" I screamed and grinned the whole time. I wanted Noah to win, but that line up was so good, i was giving props to whoever won.
Have you not seen Akani simbine 's 10m split of 0.81, which is the same as Usain bolt during his WR run back in 2009 ?
This must be hard for Akani Simbine, no matter how hard he tries, how consistent he is he never gets 1st place let alone touch the 2nd place in the Olympics. I don't how he hasn't given up yet but I love his never giving up mentality 🔥
I forgot which point he said it was at but... How are the fastest 8 guys on Earth all decelerating, yet...

He isn't, they are just slowing down faster. Noah is also the best 200m runner

The fact that this is Thompson's first Olympics is scary, the future is bright for him.

It’s rounded up to 9.79 because Lyles didn’t cross the line at the rounded down time. Apparently you always round up in track.
I was thinking the same thing...
Love the videos! Looking forward to seeing your breakdown of that insane 10k
Let's see if Noah can clock 19.25-19.30 in 200
The debate over the title of "fastest man in the world" actually makes me think of the rivalry between Kerr and Jakob.
Why not award both of them (khisane & lyle) gold since the timings are similar? It happened in olympic 2020 the high jump event sharing gold...
Why disqualify a competitor for a 0.1 sec jump on the starting gun?
In that high jump competition, both men cleared the same height (and neither lost on misses). In this 100 meters, one man crossed the line before the other. That’s what the instruments are capable of precisely measuring. The one that crossed first gets the gold. A tie is possible, but the timing system in this instance shows a difference at the thousands of a second. There’s no need to call it a tie.
I think every one of them should get a gold as a participation medal since there were all within .12 seconds of one another. There's no reason to hurt anyone's feelings. We also need to check everyone's pronouns before each race. They didn't do that either.
Kishane Thompson is a BEAST! He's going to be the next big thing for sure. This was indeed a good experience for him
I knew noah would run a 9.7 but what i did not look forward to was him winning in a photofinish
that's a 9.8 not nearly a 9.7.. B- PLEASE
@@briancockerham4731 With his usual 0.13 reaction time instead of 0.178 at the Olympics, he can drop it to 9.75.

@@briancockerham4731 It's literally a 9.784... can you even read the charts shown in this literal video?
That was one of the fastest and closest races ever period! Fastest Man in the world!
i think a huge part of Lyles win was Kerley running beside Thompson, every other race iv seen him run in he has looked so relaxed and cool but in that final he had some serious strain on his neck and face, as commented by someone else below Thompson hasnt really had world class competition next to him so he had that tunnel vision working its magic, i think Kerley being there and being there all the way to the tape unnerved him and put him off his race which is to be expected for someone with next to no international competitions under his belt, when running at the very top of the game like these guys where not just 100ths but 1000ths of a second make the difference anything that upsets the harmony whether physical, mental or emotional can hamper ur chances, helluva race and it was everything we hoped for
The overhead shot at 1:08 in the video shows kishane won 😊
The fastest 100 M races of all time were 9.58s , followed by 9.63s, then 9.69s. Your caption is misleading.
I understand your point, but I disagree with your logic. I would consider the “race” as the entire event.
If someone told me they competed in the “fastest marathon,” my mind wouldn’t assume someone ran the marathon WR within that race. I would think that race would have the fastest average times of the finishers.
As a nba fan and track fan as well, Noah really shut up the nba community 😂 THANK YOU
You didnt have to show Noah touching that man like that in the still shot. 😂😂😂😂 0:33
T'was indeed diabolical 😂
He thought kishane won, that's why he touched him
Seville probably got injured in last meters - he slowed his last steps and looked rather in pain. Without that, we would be close to Bednarek and Tebogo and we would have a full sub 9.9 race.
Bro look at all these bots in the comments with pfp of OF girls
Lyles is a fan: “I watched a few videos. I watched Total Running Projections. I’m a big fan of the UA-cam channel. I watched … people playing video games. Then I fell asleep”
With a finish that close might as well call it a tie
I'm very disappointed that Kishane Thompson did not win.
He did exceptionally well for a very young and inexperienced sprinter. He's a future world champ.
Absolutely one of the best Olympic finals ever! Heard on @RaesTake that he thinks Seville (re) injured his R groin based on an analysis of the race.
