I have to agree with you on this! I was turned off by original Utau's complications, but when my friend introduced me to OU, I ended up loving it. It's SO much easier to use and navigate! I still actively use OpenUtau to this day, about a year later ^^
Here's a tip, you DONT NEED to manually change the lyrics. You just need to go outside the track, click " DEFAULT " then " more.. " then click JA then click the one that says " JA VCV & CVVC " because it will automatically replace the lyrics FOR YOU. this works for vcv and cvvc only I think (and I'm not sure if it also works with english). and one more benefit. you can just type romaji instead of hiragana because it automatically sets it up FOR you. Hope this helps!

Actually there was this one important security fix update for Utau just a few weeks ago lol. But yea, the last update before that was like 20 years ago
It is actually possible to make growls, just change your resampler, I recommend using doppeltler, then you do a ton of vibrato, and if you were going for a metal death screech, just put the notes you want to be screamy down to like octave 1 or 0, then just add a tonnn of distortion on it
Lovely review… OU sure has some amazing features in store, It’s cool, it’s just missing a bunch of good features or software design choices to make the experience perfect, but all in all, it’s great. I love how it has that new thing called phonemizer; it’s really useful for english voicebanks or foreign language vbs. I DO, though, dislike the engine noise of OU, that’s why I initially would rather stick with Utau and give up all good temptations in OU. Also the learning curve for me was insanely steep.
You'll need to record yourself singing either a CV or VCV recording list (or whatever voicebank in Utau you like working with) There's some really great tutorials on making UTAU voicebanks!

Is it though…? I tried! I listened to your video and I downloaded it and tried using Tei and at first it wasn’t so bad! But it keeps crashing and I keep losing everything over and over..! Nothing shows me how to tune or make more sounds despite just extracting the already audio i downloaded with her basic sounds with no music! Is this just saying I’m not worthy or good enough?! If anything it just feels worse.. but I didn’t have much like with the normal Utau anyway…. I just wish I could make songs with Vocaloid and even using Utau as you can see… but nothing works…. The only that comes out is failure and more of sign telling me I’m not good enough.
Utau did actually update recently but it was like really minor tho, it's about like security issues

You can set the voice bank to vcv and cvvc in the phonemizer thing and it reads cv as vcv,
