There were plans in motion to take it to the WGR pre-COVID, but the pandemic put that on hold; for how long who knows. The problem would be having qualified crews to maintain and operate the locomotive on WGR metals, especially now that they use their own unique operating accreditation which, AFAIK, does not include steam locomotives. Currently only PBR enginemen are qualified to run it, so there will be some red tape to work through before it can happen. But hey, never say never!
It varies from state to state, but Australia has been slowly converting the major interstate lines to Standard Gauge. Victoria's state gauge has been Broad Gauge at 5ft3in since the 1850s, with the first through SG line between Melbourne and Sydney being built during the 1960s. Over the last 20 year in particular many of Victoria's mainlines, particularly out west, have been converted to SG with more conversions planned.
All Aboard. All Aboard. Enjoy the ride.
You're a really useful engine.
You're a really useful railway.
