I think that this is just the most perfect individual performance I have ever witnessed between the playing the sound of the drums it’s just incredible not over the top not trying to show off just playing the song perfectly
That's a coincidence. Only a few days ago I was introduced to this track-by Scott of Scott's Bass Lessons-the original is by the Lawrence Cottle Quintet. Lawrence Cottle also arranged jazz versions of Porcupine Tree tracks for Gavin. In this is of interest to anyone ;-)
Pure creativity, it's verry hard to combine techical elements with music. But he does it. Just like his good friend that made the introduction to this representation, Simon Phillips with Protocol and not only with that.
I never thought I'd say this but he's the first jazz fusion drummer that can play just about anything heavy he's proven it time and time again. Although my two faves Dave Lombardo, Aquiles Priester Thomas Lang Tommy Aldridge and the list goes on
Nice work soldier.Keep it up.I like the sounds mix.Nice smooth warm low end on the bass really brung out the punchy stuff.I also love the fusion jazz horn sounds.
I would love to know who arranged this... Who's the big band composer here? I've spent the last seven years fronting The Jazz Ambassadors of the US Army Field Band (Steve Gadd was formerly the drummer), and I have to say that is some of the most mind-blowing big band arranging and playing I've heard! Gavin is in a league unto himself. I am awestruck by everything he plays. The choices, the execution, the timbre of his kit etc.
99 percent sure it was arranged by bass player / composer / arranger Lawrence Cottle. He also worked with Gavin to create a whole album of Porcupine Tree songs-'Cheating the Polygraph'-reimagined and performed by a full big band, featuring Gavin front and centre.
For some reason this connected Harrison and Colaiuta for me. There is something very unique about their approach and tone. There are other great drummers but I think I’m saying they are not only crazy technically but they are both very extra on top of that.
Top of the top drummers worldwide not UK only... He played in 🇮🇹 with some of our artists when he was a session drummer. Love Gavin! 🙌🏻
Might be the cleanest drummer alive.
Maybe top 5 living drummer. Every time I see Gavin do something like this I am at awe.
Seriously. He has some of the most creative fills and off time signatures I’ve ever heard or witnessed.
Top 1
Guy that replaced him in Porcupine Tree and went on to Steve Hacketts Band, (Craig Blundell) is a monster too. 2 of my current faves.
Really the best Drummer in the world❤
One incredible sounding drum kit.
Gavin is a human, not a kit.
I'm beginning to think that my next kit is going to be a Sonor.
He can make tinker toys sound good
really tight playing and awesome drum sound, perfectly tuned.
I swear drummerworld posts the best drum videos
Agreed

Every time I watch Harrison play I just wonder, how?
I never thought I'd say this but he's the first jazz fusion drummer that can play just about anything heavy he's proven it time and time again. Although my two faves Dave Lombardo, Aquiles Priester Thomas Lang Tommy Aldridge and the list goes on

He really is in a league of few have achieved.

The importance of every single piece of the drumset...
didn't understand a damn thing, but it was insane!!"
I would love there to be a universe in which Buddy Rich could see this and comment so that I could see what he thinks.
I think he would be in Awe as the rest of us. 😀😎🏆

Is he playing along to a track? I don’t see other musicians
It's a track that I believe he wrote.
Yes. Its a Track. That’s why he know it by heart so well. He’s able to practice to it to perfection.
How come this had to be re-uploaded?
Snare is a cannon
Real nasty
Incredible, still think Blake Richardson by a hair
Its not a competition.
You appreciate all drummers for what they bring.
