Ah! what does our weather have to do with manufacturing or assembling these vehicles in Ghana that this guy keeps saying? Living abroad, the weather is more severe and harsh as compared to our almost constant or persistent and predictable weather and seasons. I would agree with the road constructions, conditions, and limitations. I believe the selling point should be encouraging and not actually trying to make it seem like the weather in Africa is extremely harsher. In the USA and places alike, vehicles get rusted quickly due to the salt used for road treatments during the winter season. In Ghana, we have dry and rainy season to be precise though there are in between seasons. Though different suspensions can be installed on many vehicles to suit different terrains, most vehicles especially Sports Utility Vehicles will perform the same as these vehicles being assembled in Ghana or lower suspensions can be replaced with higher versions to make driving SUVs more comforting. Let us not be fooled that these vehicles are made specifically for Ghana because these are mass production vehicles. Vehicles made for specific terrains are more pricier; let's keep that in mind. They may be a little cheaper buying in Ghana than importing into the nation.
As a Mechanical Engineer, I understand exactly what he is attempting to explain but not doing a good job at. Vehicle design for multiple climate need to have materials capability of resisting thermal expansion in the hotter weather and contraction during cold weather . Any component within a vehicle with such materials is considerably more expensive. Part such as radiators, suspensions, thermal insulation, exterior paint, break parts such as rotors and pads, AC compressors, can be tailored to specific climates which are not always cheaper as you rightfully mentioned; however other unwanted features such as heating seats, interior heating , windshield defroster, traction control… etc can be omitted or scale down to save cost. This is a sales man trying to explain technical matters so I don’t read too much into it, but cars being engineered specifically for certain climates actually save cost in manufacturing and produce much durable products. Japanese are actually very good at this. Take a vehicle design for Alaska and use it in Ghana and you will experience a lot of leaks from almost all part with fluid in it.
@@GhanaPilot9579 Exactly so. I laughed when I saw the differential knock showing the snow option. Not knowing and trying to convince people with inaccurate information because of sales is very dangerous and misleading. In some places it is considered false advertisement and usually settled with class action lawsuit. 😀 I would assume the Japanese are good at this too because they try to meet the needs of the majority. This is why they opened assembly plants in southern America to produce for the continent as well as the Northern continent. Vehicles in major parts of Africa need less interior features indeed. People buy vehicles equipped with fancy features they would never use. GPS on particular is arguably one of the expensive items but people opt in for such but with no available maps to be uploaded to fit their needs. Until we start to manufacture our own, we would just have to continue to be at the mercies of others unfortunately.
Thanks for pointing it out. I don’t know why we don’t support our own. You see VW everywhere in Germany because Germans buy and support their own. They believe that everything Germans make is the best. I wish we would believe in ourselves too.
The government must bring minds together to reverse engineer all the cars being assembled in Ghana. China did that and now makes their own cars from copying from the established brands. It is important to reverse engineer so that in future if the VW group and others decide to leave we would have the knowledge and technical skills to take over the factories to make our own cars.
That is why instead of the free SHS, government should have gone for free vocational and technical training. Companies like these could use them for technical and wild engineering stuff. Else they will only be assembling, tightening bolts and nuts, crane divers, packaging and all menial jobs. Get them to use our technical people to help improve their ability.
Good morning, VW sales rep. I'd like to know why the prices of your VW vehicles should be a secret? I would think you would happily display your prices on your website.

The interview is good but what I'm interested is example, how much the price, loan system and deposit this is what is more important to us as we are here in western land thanks.
