    Ten years old, but one of the most detailed and straight to the point guides.
    I run a XR650R 2002, but it is more or less the same procedure, I think it is 5 or 6 bolts on the oil pump/ oil filter cover.
    Thanks for the upload!

      Larry J thank you for your comment. I’m so glad there are 80s XRs that are being loved and kept alive! Is that a street legal XR? Or dirt only? All the best from California, USA

      Bought it used in 89 from original owner. He had headlamp/tail lamp on it already, but not plated. Decided to register it for street use in Hemet, Ca not a problem back then. Hadn't been out of garage for 6 or 7 years until recently, took it camping in Quartzsite, Ca in January for week, had a lot of fun with it. It always draws folks who remember the first yr of XR600 and they really check it over, still fun bike.

    approx. 2liters. 2.3liters go in when the engine has been REBUILT. When changing frame and engine oil about 2liters will go in. I usually throw in 1 liter into the engine through the valvecover (kleppendeksel) and 1liter into the frame. Let it idle for a while and then fill up until required level

      Having the factory service manual was key. Otherwise I wouldn't have known the strainer was there. Interestingly, there is also a screen behind one of the case covers as well if I remember correctly. Happy New Year and ride safe out there!

    Hello, I'm considering the purchase of a XR600R from the 80's, not sure yet what year. I am a city rider and want to straighten out the subframe to being more horizontal for the seat. I understand that the bike is oil in frame but I am wondering if it also goes into the subframe. Do you know? Much thanks, Mark

    Hello,
    I have a XR600 1987.
    Question,
    What is the temperatur of oil when you ride off road after 15min, 30min, 1 hour, 2 hour.
    For my XR, the temperatur goes to 120°C after 30 minutes, is it normal?
    Thanks,
    Eric,

    Not nessesary to do every time.

    Hey how different are those old XR600's from the old XL600's ? different cam profiles? compression ratios? gear ratios? are all models dual carbs untill they changed into the XR650?

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  7 років тому

      Not sure about cam profiles or ratios, unfortunately. I believe the last year of the dual carb was 1987, so any XR600R after 1988 has a single carb thankfully. Cheers!

    • @evilsadvocate
      @evilsadvocate 7 років тому

      is it true a single carb is better? or just simpler where as the dual carbs could allow potentially for high performance?

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  7 років тому

      Not sure about performance. I just like the idea because it's more simple to maintain. I wonder how different the performance could be. Maybe someone else can chime in on this. One thing I can say is that the XR600s 1991 and newer are really great bikes, and the single carburetor provides plenty of power especially when upgraded to a flat-slide.

    • @Psykam
      @Psykam 4 роки тому +1

      @@XRLand I know in quite late on this, but technically the dual carb is a better system all around-just more finicky. It has a more straight through head design, more power capabilities, and better throttle response. I've owned 2 bikes with them. You just have to be clever and educated to tune them. Theyre basically a 4 barrel for a bike, there's a primary and a secondary that open at different times.

    • @supabry26
      @supabry26 2 роки тому

      @@evilsadvocate technically the dual carbon setup is more tunable, for the vast majority of users and cost\ease of servicing single is preferable

    • @cjsgarage3662
      @cjsgarage3662 6 років тому

      could it also be oil from the rebuild? If it's still there after a few rides i would worry about valveseals or that kind of stuff

    • @Bush_Tucker
      @Bush_Tucker 6 років тому +2

      @@sempi8159 its burning oil so re do the carbs? That's the stupidest shit I've ever heard, the only way a engine will burn oil is from leaking valve stem seals or piston rings and bore are worn but since the guy said his recently rebuilt it, it can be the assembly lube burning off or the rings bedding in

    Who in their right mind would intentionally start their bike a quart low on oil?

    • @XRLand
      @XRLand  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for your comment and concern. We were following the instructions in the factory service manual. The engine holds about 1.9L of oil total, but the frame can only contain 1L during the initial pour. The manual states to pour in 1L, run the motor at idle for a few minutes, and then fill to recommended level. Thanks for asking and take care.

    • @cjsgarage3662
      @cjsgarage3662 6 років тому +1

      it's a dry sump system. It can handle the few minutes. You're not gonna put high loads and high temperatures on the engine during this phase. If your bike can hold 2liter in the frame it's also ok.
