Unbelievable! Piss poor design to seal up the outside of the truck that’s for sure…. One little assembly miscue and all that potential damage to electrical harnesses and mold. Definitely going to rip the back seats out of mine and take a look. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the video. It rained today and I found the same leak in the same spot. The only difference is that the vent was all the way in. I’m replacing it.

I bought a used 2017 F250 Lariat and I just experienced the water filling the side troughs on both sides but more so on the passenger side. I used a turkey baster to empty the water out. The day prior I had it at the dealership for a recall on the body control module (under glove box by right foot) Turns out the BCM had gotten wet and shorted out dropping the tailgate. They have a 50 page bulletin on searching for leaks to find out where it gets in. In my research I've discovered 5 serious entry points are possible. Rear cab vents, sunroof, window/door, windshield, A/C drain behind the passenger wheel well.

So which one was it ??
I’m getting water in passenger front footwell Not used A/c in 4 months so not that
I did have a new windshield few months ago
      Clean roof drains
      We’ll c gonna rain tomorrow

I never did figure it out! I do need to check the roof drains. I also put a 90 degree elbow on the A/C drain that in the passenger side foot compartment. The drain can be seen under the wheel well behind the shroud. They found water ends up flowing out the drain but doesn't clear the grommet and ends up I the front passenger floorboard.

It may not be widespread but it’s common sadly. They should redesign the part so that there is more holding it into the truck.

My ‘05 F350 driver’s side cabin pressure vent was loose but I never noticed any water. Recently, I had the bed off to replace the bed rails. I’m replacing them both. Since on my truck they only go in from the outside.
One small defect can cause so much damage.
Thanks for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing your next video!

I found this to be the problem on my 22 F350, after a dealer only found the door seals leaking. The next time it rained my floors were soaked again. (Obviously not the door seals) Called to get it back in the shop and was told it would be another month, about the time we were heading back south for the winter. Get settled for the winter and make appointment at this dealer, a month and half out. I told them about this video and where to look. Parts ordered, no show, reschedule, back to shop, now have mold growing, blah blah blah. Kept my truck for 3 weeks for repair, mold removal, detail and dry out. Ford would not replace flooring!!(Im pissed btw). I got the truck back last night, it rained over night, the vents still leak!!! Back to the dealer Monday. I sure wish Ford would come out with an updated vent that actually fixes this problem.

2020 F350 Lariat with the 7.3 here. Back in the summer of '21 discovered a leak in the passenger front after a heavy thunderstorm. Technician said it was a rubber plug in the firewall not fully seated and took him 3 hours to locate it.

That was a very complete explanation. I should note that some Superduty owners advocate running antenna wire through this vent. Probably not a good idea given how easy water can enter here if something isn’t 100% with the installation.

Both my 2017 and my 2018 F150s had water issues. The first one was a bad windshield replacement which had soaked the entire passenger side wire channel and carpet. The last one was after warranty work on the sunroof. Somehow, there was a one inch defect in the gasket that frames the sliding glass. Water started running in down the a-pillar and dripped down the driver's handlebar. I will be checking my new 22 SD for the issue you showed here. Like I mentioned to you the other day, my new truck came with a F350 on the driver side and a F250 on the passenger side. Today, I found about a one inch paint bubble on the roof. Definitely things are not going well at Ford. I waited 13 1/2 months for this truck. Sat in Kentucky completely built since Oct 4/22. Didn't get delivered until Jan 24/23.

In 2017, my 2017 sat outside during a Hurricane here in Houston and my carpet was soaked. I took the truck to my dealer and they discovered the rear cab vents were the source of the leaked. They checked the 54 new Superduty’s on their lot and 12 of them had wet carpet.

Found the same thing on my 21’…soaked under my driver seat and feet area. Checked the seals on the door… probably took them off 20x haha, nothing… traced it back to the vents were I put the hose on it and sure enough… it wasn’t coming from the top but coming from the rubber which wasn’t sealing so just certain little compartments would fill up and eventually spill over in to the cab. Now I have a new project…taking out carpet and replacing it on a truck I bought 5 months ago…of course used… thank though man I really appreciate your videos. Keep it up brotha!

A buddy of mine installed a roll-n-loc bed cover on his 2015 F250 and when running the drain hose, he inadvertently ran drain hose thru the cab vents. He managed to get two inches of hose thru those pesky vents. First big rain, flooded his entire cab.

Thanks for this video 100% same diagnosis on my 2018 F250 passenger side. I've been hearing water sloshing around for some time, thought it was doors but could never find it. Pulled up "door sill" and found a good bit of water. Quick google lead me here and sure enough you can see the dirt all over that vent behind the passenger seat after pulling the cover. I'll probably replace with new or look into other fix options. My warranty is up so unfortunately the carpet stays but I'm gonna give it a good cleaning.

Great find! I watched another video where the same thing happened to a guy with his brand new 21 F350 (I think) but they thought it was the heater core leaking, long story short it was a bad fitment on some lines that came loose or misaligned, he never did a follow up. I'll have to check my 22 F450. For the last 3 Super Duty's Ive owned, Ive always cut a hole in those to run a cig. lighter and wiring for a overhead light for plowing and never thought of water intrusion. I wish they'd come up with something to divert the water over the door sill plate in the front driver side foot area. Again, last three Super Duty's I've owned are caked with salt come spring in that wire loom area from where the e brake all the way to the rear seat and I've tried putting towels/rugs under the floor mats to try to absorb the water but nothing seems to help and kick my boots off before I get back into the truck. Before this 22 F450 touches snow/salt I am removing all the driver side trim and wrapping that whole wire loom in heavy 3M Super 88 electrical tape (2" wide tape) to keep the salt off the wiring at least. They need to have a drain in that whole cavity.

Yes. My 2020 CC KR. Took me about a year to find it. Way past warranty. Originally reported it while in warranty though. Same exact weak finger. Ended up pulling it in and siliconing it. Siliconed the other side too for good measure. Propped up all the carpet, fans, and dehumidifier in the truck for two days.
Had same exact symptoms, driver side front floor soaked. First I checked the sunroof drains, siliconed around the firewall grommet as I had a couple drips coming from there under direct spray. Happened again, pulled the cowl thinking seam sealer was missed. Nothing. Cab vent was the smoking gun.
I drive 40-45k a year. First thing I do with my next SD will be pulling the back wall apart and siliconing it as a preventive measure.

My 2014 f250 has the same style pressure vents in the back cab panel. How I found it was a swampy smell in the truck and then found the right rear carpet was soaking wet. Pulled the rear seats, trim panels, carpet and water tested. Thought my back glass was the problem, well it was along with the pressure vents. I wound up metal duct taping them up and urethane sealer over top of that to stop the leak. Then I drilled small weep holes in the lower track of the slider glass to let water drain out as the water was following the track into the cab. Sorry for being longwinded, but needless to say it doesnt leak now.

Came across this video looking for more information on my 21 F350 water leak - mainly to see if it's a more common problem. My passenger cab vent is doing the exact same thing. Wont push back in. Told dealer it was defective - I'm hoping they replace the carpet. Carpet is soaked, truck is actually starting to smell bad from mildew! Seems like these vents have been problematic going back to the early 2000's at least. Very dissapointed!

Just had the same experience on a 2022 Tremor.....Bed was removed to replace. It had been leaking for 3 mos and did not notice until washing and the inside windows fogged. Dealer cleaned the carpet and air dried for 48 hours. Just noticed it's still damp and now the truck has an odor. I will be contacting the dealer first thing next week to inform and request the carpet to be replaced. Truck only has 800 miles. Very disappointed in Ford Quality Control processes of late. This is the second repair needed. They installed the cab running lights wrong as well and had to be corrected.

I had a problem with my 2016 F150 sun roof drain lines that had come apart in the A pillar. Sure enough i had water pooling at the bottom on both sides where the large wiring harness runs in the sill. Took both side off and sure enough on drain line was off and another was coming apart. Only held on by friction, but I connected back on and placed a small zip tie / clamp to hold together. Never had a problem after that.

I am currently trying to find a cab leak in my 2019 F-350. Water has already damaged the BCM on the passenger side. I wouldn't think the source is the rear cab vents as the water is dripping down onto the BCM from what I can tell when I remove the glove compartment. Have you found the source of the leak on your truck ?

  • @lancekistler999
    @lancekistler999 Рік тому

The quickest/cheapest solution I found for my F-150 (similar design) is to use a grease (I used sil-glyde on mine, tried Lucas Red Tacky on my friends and I feel his will last longer, harder to apply) Push the vent as far toward bed as possible. (Mine would shift toward middle about half the width) apply grease on the gasket or where it meets cab hole. I went fairly heavy. Then re-seat the vent. I went from soaked carpet in a drizzle to bone dry with a hose blasting.
NOTE: the squeeze tube of silglyde needed a nozzle. Cut a 1 inch piece of 3/8 clear tube and shove in the grease tube opening. The shove a 2 or so piece of 1/4 inside that. It is not perfect, and will pop out on you BUT it beats the heck out of moldy trucks and removing beds because of a piece of plastic.

Another failure place is the sliding rear window gasket and track. Unfortunately seems the only way to "repair" is to replace the entire window. Since I don't use mine often, ended up using silicone to seal it shut. Then disconnected power to the slider motor. Not for everyone but cheaper than replacing the entire window.

That part is so flimsy I was cleaning mine on my 22’ 550 prior to the service body going on and light pressure with a microfiber broke a little plastic piece and moved the rubber out of place. Now I’m a little paranoid.

I was thinking about making a seal that’s sandwiched between the bed and cab at the top. Almost like the seals on the side gaps of the bed. I’ve wondered if water rolling down off the roof or off the tonneau cover leaks into that vent.

Will have to use something soft because It will rub the paint off. Just like when you have rubber boots stuck between the cab and bed

Figured as long as it’s a EDPM rubber, just like the seals on the side of the bed to cab gap, it shouldn’t hurt anything. I found a block rubber weather strip made for camper caps that should be in this week to try out.

I've had the same issue on my truck. (2020 f250) the ford dealer did silicone around mine and replaced carpetdo to mildew smell... lasted a year just started getting water in the rocker again. Seriously disappointing...

Thank You we just discovered water damage on our 2017. The truck is garage kept and only comes out to toy a trailer. We have had some rain in FL and noticed water on the floor board. I will go check this now. Do you know if it is covered under Ford premium warranty?

Found puddles of water on my 21 f250 only on the driver side. Unfortunately I have the sub wolfer and amp in my way to the vent. Showing the dealer your video. Congrats on the over 100k plaque!!🎉

well, we found a lot water in our truck, was comming from the hole where the factory subwoofer is, so Im sealing that hole and I check that vents and was totally dry but just in case I will seal around the vent with silicone, get the carpet dry is not easy, we (as a F150 customer) pay a lot money for truck and not sense how cheap they use parts, more for protect the interior, anyway I hope that was the only way where the water was coming, any tips for check the front area for leak???
    Thanks in advance

I'm not understanding, what are these for and what is their function? Since my bed cover cover drains through the portals in the front of the bed, I'd better check to ensure they don't empty at or above these vents. The thought never crossed my mind until I saw this video.

Let's not always blame the manufacturers, if you notice the owner has a tonneau cover on his truck bed. On some models of tonneau bed covers there's drain for the rails for each side of the truck bed which drain into those two caps in the cabs/bulkhead which is directly in line with the vent. Whomever installed the bed cover might have pushed the vent while drilling the 7/8" hole for the drain tube. This is just a though maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm right??? See yaaaa, lol

    • @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
      @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod  2 роки тому

Im sorry but installing the tonneau has absolutely NO bearing on the vent on the BACK of the cab. The failure is from assembly & yes I do blame the assembly-man or woman. Its that simple, someone failed to properly install it correctly, PERIOD.
