- A capo can be great fun to use and this is especially true when using partial capos.
Daithi Rua (IE) is an endorser of Kyser capos, a singer songwriter and guitar teacher. Here he runs though the different partial capo options on his UA-cam channel 'Songs From The Rua room' a channel dedicated to singer songwriters. www.theruaroom.com

Exceling no waffled and informative --thank you
You’re very welcome
Another thing that works really nicely with Kyser capos: use it upside down. That little silicone rubber part that pushes down on the back of the neck is a little over three strings wide, so a regular Kyser capo can also do the DADGAD trick.
I place the drop D capo on the middle of the second fret so there’s room for my index finger on the inside instead of the outside of the capo to play the Em. Excellent video. I have all of those capos. There are so many other positions the capo can be placed. Double capo’ing is fun and freaks people out 😂. Cool poster behind you.
Best partial capo tutorial ever….and you can play incredibly well too.
Glad you like it and thank you
Great demonstration. Very clear and simple explanation.
Glad you liked it James.
Thanks very much. Fascinating!
You're very welcome
This is the best cut capo tutorial I have seen!
Thanks Jeffrey. Glad you found it useful
I love the faux drop capoed at the 4th fret, also turned to open the high e side on the 5th gives a chorusey doubled string effect with the high e. Em7 still works to a point especially when cut capo is in the open A standard position. Lots of tricks truly is a fantastic songwriter tool!
Some really great ideas many thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.🤩👍
Thank You! Feeling a little more fluent in alternate sounds after this. I was looking for some nice sounds to play "He moved through the Fair" in E/D/Bm. And here it is :-)
You're very welcome! Glad it helped. Great song that.
Wow, this is excellent Daithi, so many ideas, thank you!
My pleasure Phil. Hope you get some use out of it. Maybe a song or two 😊
@@SongsFromTheRuaRoom Yes - amazing what a different tuning or set-up can inspire! :)
I'm having fun with this. Think I need a better capo though, cos it pings off sometimes, when I miss a string. Great vid, thanks
Very well explained buying mine today...
Glad it helped. Enjoy the new capo.
Great tutorial - thank you! I've been using cut capos for years - Shubb in my case. And I mostly do rhythm chording with a flat pick. But I agree, they open the sound up. I also have a collection of flat picks for different sounds. It's amazing how much gear you can have just playing acoustic guitar.
Oh man, this is sprouting tons of new musical ideas, amazing stuff!
Great lesson Daithi, mine arrived today. Cant wait to try it out. Find all my song folders and get started on songs that will sound different using this "new to me" trick after playing guitars all my life. Great work mate, God bless you.
Wow, I did not expect this! I'm gladd I clicked! ofthen capo tuts are pretty, well not as inspiring as this one! Nice lesson thx!! All the best, Casey
love this! Thanks Daithi
Thank you sir. That was extremely interesting.
My pleasure. Glad you found it interesting
Really practical advice. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice one Daithi! Lovely introduction to the magic of full and partial capos :)
Thanks for this tutorial! Opens a bit of a new world. Especially that DADGAD-in-E major capo.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, thanks Daithi, fresh new stuff for me ! Guitarjoy
Nice!
great ideas
Very good
Thanks. Appreciated
excellent!
Video seems to be missing the partial capo inverted from the treble side covering strings2,3&4 (open A on the second fret).
Hi there. Brilliant tutorial. Can you use the shortcut capo (upside down) to bar the standard A chord on the second fret?
Yes you can! That gives you Open G (Key of A) Have fun.
I play a Taylor 414ce-R and I Purchased a Kyser partial Capo and the Rubber-fret-pad . . . " Barely Covers the 3 Strings " - is the G7th or Shubb partial Capo better ? Appreciate any input.
Hi Michael. it's unusual that the Kyser barely covers the 5.4 &3 strings. I have seen that happen on classical guitar necks that are deeper but even then I can normally get it to work on fret 2 and 4. I believe Shubb have the same size settings but I don't think G7th make partial capos.
@@SongsFromTheRuaRoom Thanks. Appreciate the input. I have done more-research, and the "foot-pad" on the Shubb and the G7th are a bit-longer so they might work out better on my Taylor?
HINT - With a little trimming on the backside of my Kyser capo (the side that usually goes on the back of the neck), I'm able to flip it over and use it as a three-string DADGAD capo like the one he describes at 8:00
Wonder vid
Could you get a capo that only covers 2 strings,
Sometimes I take an old short cut capo (3 strings) and take a small saw to the rubber part and cut away the small piece you don't need....boom...a 2 string capo
