It is sad that these original puppets did not end up in a museum - they were part of the history of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's productions, part of our history of television. Thank you for the memories, Ciao, L
Hi, thank you for the info - what happened, why were they auctioned? I remember when Supercar came out in 1960, it was such a change of paradigm in marionettes. Later, i wrote to the BBC (Stingray time) and Sylvia Anderson send me a letter, encouraging me to pursue my studies and become a submariner or a pilot (which I was dreaming of at the time). She also wrote to me in the early 2000, after I had thanked her for orienting my career (Naval Officer) with their shows. An entire Baby Boomer generation grew up watching these marvels, Thank you for your answer, Ciao, L (USA)
I think she said she wanted to "move on", and I'm sure the money was nice! A number of the other puppet heads in the auction (from Mary Turner's collection) have been lovingly restored and given new bodies & costumes, and occasionally appear in displays in the UK. ua-cam.com/video/1q6kvaB76pk/v-deo.html
They didn't mention Father Unwin at all and he was with the other puppets. It is a shame The Secret Service isn't as well-remembered and that it wasn't shown in many ITV regions.
Secret Service is my favourite. I wish they'd made more. It seemed less like it was desperately trying to court American money than the other series, and just seemed content to be a very odd, very English little television programme. I love it
I just loved Marina’a puppet, she was beautiful to look at, and Sylvia’s voice in Thunderbirds was truly classy, such a shame that the Anderson’s are now dead.
The real shame is that many of the items in that auction have disappeared into private collections, never to be seen again. There are some collectors who do exhibit at events such as RAF Cosford's 'Flights of Fantasy' and "The FAB Worlds of Anderson' at the National Space Centre.
It ta!es.me.bak . today I asked mum again ,whose 87 , about Sylvia's mum .my mum knew her. She used to see her regular shopping and stop and talk back in the !ate 50s.. her mum lived in London ,five mins Away from us. Just a snippet❤️❤️ .
This chap was not even born when these puppets shows was being broadcast so he cannot understand the nostalgia behind them. I found it a fascinating clip to watch thanks for uploading.
I used to get called Joe-90 at school, because I was a Geek and I did look a LOT like him, and I didn't ever wear glasses! So I wonder, who was Great Britain's most accurate Joe-90 lookalike? Was that you? 🇬🇧🤔
No dedicated museum, but there are a few artefacts in some places like The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford. However there are often exhibitions by groups of collectors featuring original and replica puppets, craft, props and costumes. The National Space Centre in Leicester has held exhibitions in the last couple of years.
@@mostspecialagent thanks for the info. My parents are only a few miles away from the space centre in Leicester. I'll definitely plan a visit when there's an exhibition on!
They were worth a fortune even then, certainly those complete puppets went for an awful lot of money. But like all things collectable, they’re only worth what somebody is prepared to pay for them. It’s just a shame that so many of the heads that appeared in the auction have not been seen since.
Hammer prices for the main characters: Lady Penelope, £30,000. Captain Scarlet, £18,000. Joe 90, £9,000. Father Unwin, £5,000. Marina, £10,000.

Sylvia’s Lady Penelope, Captain Scarlet and Joe 90 puppets were actually in the Museum of the Moving Image for several years prior to this auction.

Yes it's a shame , we hope and wish they cud live forever. It's sad when we all have to get old and age.♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏
*Their son still lives!!*
Scarlet was bought by a well-known Anderson collector who as far as I know still owns him.
A genius and a real lady, Sylvia Anderson. RIP
I remember seeing this at the time.. they're all priceless and a shame they ended up auctioned off

Wow that was great! It was a bit hairy seeing the dog almost destroy Marina & Stanlyey Unwin lol.
Thanks for sharing it :)
Thank you for the info, It was interesting to see what they were worth.
Sad to see Captain Scarlet had no brains. I'm shattered now

I wonder if those puppets are still around today of Marina, Lady Penelope, Captain Scarlet, Joe McClaine and Father Unwin.
I think you might be mistaking the four Professor McClaine heads from Joe 90 for Captain Blue. I can't see Blue on display there at all.
*Sylvia Anderson is also very pretty as well as a genius!* ⭐️ ❤️ ⭐️
3:35 - Best scene from Thunderbirds ever!
3:35
I say...awfully chivalrous of Virgil to protect Lady Penelope by merely laying a plastic hand over her equally plastic but finely sculptured face!
Awesome you can see Green and the Angel's heads AND BLUE'S HEADS
I think those other heads where Professor McClaines from Joe 90.
Thank you for posting, does anyone know what they went for?.
Silvia Anderson is Lady Penolpy

If there is a Gerry Anderson productions museum I would go there. Is there?

*Wolverhampton a tiny museum*
does anyone know where Scarlet is now?
I bet they're worth a fortune now

Those puppets looks like Disney Animatronics!!!!
2:39, loved Marina, wish she was my girlfriend.
Are you saying your girlfriend talks too much? lol
@@Wagoo hahahaha!
😊
He keeps interrupting her and isn't even interested in her answers
They're NOT Puppets!, they're marionettes!
A marionette is a puppet, but not all of the puppets were marionettes. Certain heads were never strung and only ever operated from underneath.
Good info
Was there a relationship between Virgil & Lady P. because he's normally with her on missions.
According to Lady Penelope's Secrets, she goes with Scott Tracy to the Opera and nixes any hints of romance with the Virg. Poor Virg. LOLOL
