I old enough to see all of them play. I can tell you without a doubt. Larry legend is the Goat. the main reason is jordan beat everybody back in the day. Except one person, 0 for 6 vs. Bird. Jordan said himself. Bird was a problem.

I have Larry, Magic and Jordan as GOAT. I can't see it any other way. None of the three would have been as important without one of the others. If I had to pick one, it would be Bird.

Larry is my GOAT, but I know with different times and different teams these goat debates are just a subjective thing at the end of the day. Anyone of the greatests, being that MJ, LBJ, Kareem, Magic, Bird, etc, can easily be considered the best by someone with actual good reasons. But let me say this: I really appreciate the fact that you listen to the video and keep an open mind, then if you still take LBJ, I mean, you cant get more legit than that. LBJ put Bird in his top 3 all time, Bird praised LBJ multiple times so, is anyone really wrong here? Thanks for the reaction, keep it up!

Part of what complicates the "Greatest" conversation is what one considers to be components of "greatness". Some simply look to whatever statistics have been gathered. Some look at those statistics with contextual influences considered. Others recognize that statistics can't tell the complete picture of a player and look at "intangibles" too. Some also recognize that some actions/characteristics of a player as a teammate eliminate them from the running for "greatest". They might be really good at some individual skill(s) but it's what they are as a total package that means they belong in the conversation or not.
Larry Legend was the total package.

To me the GOAT has to be Kareem. #1 in points, #3 in Rebounds. MVPs on multiple teams in multiple leagues.
And was the best player on the Showtime Lakers that had Magic and Worthy.
However one of the biggest reasons why Bird is definitely up there is because he made EVERYONE around him better. In his rookie year he took a team that had only won 24 games the year before and led them to over 60 wins.
That really is the mark against Kobe and LeBron... neither made their teammates better. And LeBron couldn't win unless he recruited other superstars to compliment him.
Larry won with a broken down Bill Walton.

There's a HUGE Bird moment that criminally isn't on this tape, nor on the Larry Bird Mixtape: the Duel with Dominique in the 1988 Eastern Conference Finals. That truly was a case of two basketball gunslingers trading epic shots while both of their teams mostly stood there with open mouths. It came down to Bird scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter, and it still wasn't almost nearly enough, which gives you some idea of how high Dominique's performance was on that day.

Oh boy. I can tell this is going to be a great reaction. Expect some editing of this comment. But....
Right off the bat, at 2:14, if you like Damian Lillard ... so does Clayton Crowley. You should watch more of his stuff---it's all amazing, all basketball content. After making the case for GOAT players, he made the case for GOAT teams, and then after that, he's moved on to non-GOAT but still legendary player profiles. Dame was the second Legend that Crowley got to in that most recent series.
7:52, Cedric Maxwell got the '81 Finals MVP averaging 17.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.2 steals, and 1 block per game for the series. Larry Bird got 15.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 2.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks. It's subjective, but Larry's stat line looks the best to me (of all Celtics in that series, Larry had the second-most points, and the most rebounds, assists, and steals).

What’s not mentioned is just as impressive. He’s one of a few to win rookie of the year (over Magic, reference only) and make the all-NBA team as a rookie. He also won college player of the year. I don’t know of an award he didn’t win.
I’ve read in a different reaction that Jordan made you look slow but Bird makes you look stupid. I do have him as my goat 🐐 because of his consistency, leadership, and teamwork. There’s a video comparing him to KD and it shows the team stats for when he played vs when he didn’t (rookie year/surgery) and it’s unreal.

Thank you for the open mind and great reaction! Too many LeBron fans give all LeBron fans a bad name. If you still stand by LeBron as your GOAT, it's understandable for many reasons. Us old heads have our GOATs, though, and for many of us, it's Larry Legend.

Larry Bird is the best all-around player in NBA history
I didn't say GOAT because I don't what makes someone the GOAT.
Here are the categories I looked at and what I found.
      Field goal %
      Free throw %
      Points per game
      Assists per game
      Rebounds per game
      Steals per game
      Bocks per game
      Minutes per game
Win % of games played in
Bird is in the top 250 NBA players of all time in all of those categories. Do you know how many other NBA players can say that? ZERO
And in 7 of the 9 categories Bird is in the top 60 NBA players of all time. Do you know how many other NBA players can say that? ZERO
      Bird could do it all.
Here is one stat other than the above I found interesting.
Bird averaged more defensive rebounds per game than Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O'Neal - there are others as well.

Cedric Maxwell got the finals MVP in 1981. Cornbread had 17.7, 9.5, and 3.5 for the finals. Bird was everywhere that series, though, his line was 15.3, 15.3, and 7.5. That’s 15.3 rebounds a game banging in the trenches against Moses Malone. That’s 7.5 assists per game for a guy playing forward, not a primary ball handler. Bird was awkward, uncomfortable, and sometimes downright surly in interviews when he was young. He often gave only one or two word answers - imagine Marshawn Lynch with a midwestern drawl. Clayton’s not kidding about it being a case of media revenge.

He is, after 1980. The big disadvantage he has is the short career due to surgery. But he is the goat. After 1980 because I dont know alot on prior players.
Lebron is not top10 if all time is taken jnto account. He lost the shot in Miami tournament, he lost many times in international competitions and Kobe was better there overall, he was not the critical player in the Cleveland C finals but the other guy was.
All time considered, he is not top 10 imo, or maybe 8-9-10 if is.
There are 4,5 better players before 1980 and same for after. Gor Lebron you can say for before 1980 as well . If i am wrong on prior 1980, still there are at least 6 better players who still played after 1980.

Lol, you just said no case for Larry to be the GOAT…. I almost skipped to the end just to see if you admit you’re wrong. But I’ll wait, I’ll watch. I think you’ll be open minded. ✌🏻
Edit: Ok, all done, I was right… you’re totally open minded. Love that. 😎

LeBron is the best in the last twenty years but I don't think most fans have seen a lot of great players compete. In the eighties we got to see Dr, J ,Kareem, Jordan, Magic and Bird go head to head. Over half the HOF came from the eighties. That said, I never saw Wilt or Russell. You can only compare who you have seen.

From my perspective…not gonna lie…love me some Bird! However….. I think all these GOAT videos do not compare correctly. To put Bird against say Jordan isn’t fair. Here’s a few reasons why: comparisons should be by position, it isn’t fair to compare because the shot clocks and timers are different, lastly, the times. Ball play vary from year to year and decade to decade. Is Bird ONE of the GOAT? Yes is the easy answer. Check out the USA dream team that went to the Olympics. They only had one weak link… Christian Laetner. He just didn’t belong on that team.

wait you put lebron at #1 and Jordan at #2... That was you being funny right? ha. I'm glad more and more of the younger generations have youtube and can go back and watch some of the guys that made Lebron. I got into watching basketball in the late 70s through to the 90s. Magical time to be a fan. My top 6 ranking is: 1. Bird, 2. MJ 3. Magic 4. Kareem 5. Kobe 6. Wilt after that, there's a bit of a gap between anyone else and these 6. Growing up Magic was always my GOAT, as a kid the Lakers in the 80's was just as magical as the movies they were putting out in Hollywood so it was easy to fall in love with them, especially since I lived on the west coast saw more Lakers games than any other team. My dads GOAT was Bird. As I got older and really started rewatching Bird and just focusing on him and his all around basketball playing. His shooting, passing, IQ, getting into everyone's head and getting them out of their game, putting everyone on his team the spotlight, feeding the ball to those guys when most guys would just take the shot and run up their stats, He made Parish and Mchales careers. Trash talking and backing it up, playing his entire career w/ some sort of injury, his second half was with serious back injuries and still killing it, Bird would have Lebron sitting in the corner sucking his thumb crying out for his mom.

Not sure if you had seen the clip of Devin Booker complaining to the refs about a mascot distracting him during his free throws. Larry had to shoot free throws while the opposing fans had cutouts and posters of bikini clad women under their basket. Larry didn't flinch.
