Firstly Rebecca you are fast becoming my favourite source of information on middle east matters.
Secondly i am a Australian born son of an Israeli jew. My grandfather was killed in the 48 war of independence and bothe my father and uncle served in the IDF.
Australians are the most nieve group of people living in fairyland.
Its a beautiful rich country and its isolation and geography brings it safety.
People here don't have to be very smart to live a great life and have absolutely no idea about the reality on the ground in Israel. They never will.

I moved to US 5 years ago, but I am Israeli. I ived in Ramle ( mixed city) for close to a decade. And in the mid 2000nds , I witnessed a honor killing. Around 30 meters away from where i stood. A young woman came to the bank machine to take some money, she was serching in her bag, most likely for the card. A guy came behind her, and in the blink of an eye, took out the knife, and slit her throat. Just like that. And jumped to the ally. I was armed, cause was working security after IDF, but it was so quick, i couldn't do anything. She was dead when i got to her. He was caught by the cops after 30 minutes of pursuit. Of course, he and her where Arabs. She was his sister. And her crime? She didn't wanted to wear a headscarf anymore , and wanted to date a Jewish guy. This changed me. Unluke many Israelis , that still having this idea that Islam is just a religion like every other religion, i understood from that moment that it is a death cult. Back in a days, there was no social media, but there where sites and forums of ex Muslims.I even remember one of the sites , it called faithfreedom, and the author was Ali Sina. O,man, how everyone where treating me for speaking out ! At least now there is more aware people out there.
I will say this to you and Rebecca. I am western living atheist, but as much as I think ALL religions does not have proper evidence, I view religions as a culture. And Islam, unfortunately, it's ideals, is not, well 'ideal' for me. Sorry, not sorry. No matter any criticism to Christianity, Judaism etc. Islam has more criticism from me.

I do find it strange that for whatever reason Israel's business is EVERYONE'S business, with Harris saying "we cannot allow that" or "the world cannot allow that" throughout his video when talking about voting rights for Palestinian Arabs. Imagine if someone said that about voting rights for non-Arabs in Saudi Arabia or Qatar. They would be laughed out of the room for attempting to tell these countries how to treat minorities

There's nothing strange about it. Israel and Zionists have endeavoured to make it the concern of the west for 80 years. They want everyone to care in their favour, but now that the tide has turned against them and Zionist propaganda no longer works, they act like the interest and attention is pathological.
While Harris did take an attitude like "we the people of the west" but being an ex Muslim he did make the valid point about re-educating or deradicalizing muslims. They would act like they have been deradicalized enough, but it would be deceit, which is inbuilt in their religion, biding their time . The moment people would think they have been deradicalized and grant them equal rights the cookie would crumble. Hence the deradicalisation worked with Germany and Japan post ww2 but won't work with Arabs.

There should not be any 2 state solution. There should be only one state i.e. The Jewish state.
Jews could learn a lot from the experience of India. We partitioned the country on religious lines because the Muslims of Undivided India at the time of Independence said that they could not live with the Hindus.
But their real problem was that they could never live under Hindu rule as Hindus were still the majority and the British on leaving were going to install a democratic system of governance, which the Muslims were against.
And inspire of agreeing to give Muslims their own state, what thanks did India or Hindus get in return.

Let's be honest, even if "Palestine" were to become a state, the current territories (Gaza and J&S) would very quickly become two states. It would be a 3-state solution, not to mention Jordan which is already the Arab state in the former British Mandate of Palestine

I am German and I was never in Israel. I admit that I thought the Two-State-Solution is the only solution to apeace the conflict. Then October 7th happened and I believe I understand now that in reality there was never the chance of a Two-State-Solution after 1948. Palestinians are living in the past, when the pan-Arabic state was an idea in the 1920s until at least the 1980s; the idea was to have one Arabic state in all Arabia, North Africa and Sahara without any non-muslims. Palestinians are murdering Jews since the 1920s just because they are Jews and they never stopped believing in having a Palestinian state in all Israel without any Jews and they never stopped believing in a pan-Arabic state. Unfortunately, the leftists in the west are supporting this view for at least 50 years and have teached this idea since. October 7th has changed me, although I am far away. I stand with Israel.
I’m someone who’s in support of 2 state solution but after Oct 7th it’s impossible since most Palestinians support Hamas. International community is pushing Israel to “do better” when Israel many times offered 2 states that was rejected by Palestinian authorities. Rebecca, I completely understand. Not as an Israeli, but as a diaspora Jew who has "friends" who lay so much blame on Israel for surviving & thriving. They are "good" people, one by one, who want to do their share in making the world better off, but they just don't realize how much they've absorbed the Arabic narrative that Israel is all-wrong & proPalestinian is all-right. I think it's a good thing Harris spoke out about this and you responded in this way. A lot of westerners think Israelis are completely open to the idea of a two-state solution. This allows more exposure to the issue, which is a good thing.

I am from India, altho Indian govt as of now currently supports two state solution the main reason is because India for past 60 years was ruled by a spineless government which always appeased to Muslims, and the reason India still stands on the old stance is because mature democracies dont engage in violent mood swings in foreign policy making as it makes you amateurish and unpredictable which in turn harms the trust factor of a country, altho lemme tell you most Hindu Indians dont really care for Palestine and has no interest in seeing a palestinian nation

In my opinion, Israel would be well advised to reconcile itself with the religious side and not to see it as its appendix, because Jewish spirituality can be the sharpest weapon against Islam. However, the Orthodox must also recognize that the existence of the State of Israel is an institution vital to its survival. History has taught us that.

When the Israelis brought the PLO back from Tunisia many Palestinians viewed them as a gang of thugs.. and thought the Jews were nuts. Before Oslo we used to go to Ramallah and patronize their shops and vice versa but Oslo created borders and non stop terror. No one has suffered more than the Jews and Palestinians because of Oslo.
Think about it, we gave the PLO guns to administer security in the West Bank and those guns have shot Israelis in terror attacks- what kind of insanity was this plan?

To be honest I don't understand the naïveté he has despite being ex Muslim. I love most of his content. He's not afraid to be harsh where need be. But even as an atheist I see the doctrines as Islam as something incompatible with many other doctrines. (Im not even saying its good or bad for UA-cam mods) but even as compatibility it just isn't gonna work. And the Palestinians have hate for the Jewish people, Israel or not. So its odd to think that a Muslim Palestinian will somehow get along with the Jewish people

as I wrote already, Harris (and not only Harris, sadly) is wrong representing the “discrimination” in voting rights matter as “apartheid”. it’s a misrepresentation, especially given that it’s not even unlimited and there can be a plan, a pathway to full citizenship for those who are willing to obtain it and meet certain criteria and conditions put in place as a vetting procedure.
there is a concept of residency: like Green Card in USA, or similar systems in other countries, that grant you almost every right, except general electoral rights: to vote or to be voted in the highest public institutions, etc… you still can work, get the same treatment under the law, same treatment by social services, healthcare, policing… you pay taxes as any normal resident/citizen of the country and get everything any other taxpayer gets. you can buy and sell property, learn and teach, have a business… even vote in municipal elections, just not decide the course of an entire country :)
somehow, similar category in other countries is allright, and only in our case it becomes controversial. why? I think, it’s bigotry which became so normalized that people don’t even notice it, and when you point it out, can’t understand.
btw, there are countries that only grant full citizenship based on ethnicity, with some very narrow set of exceptions, and even you meet the criteria for such an exception, it’ll take you many years of perfect behavior to get naturalized. I think, in Japan this is the case, and no one makes a fuss about it. I brought Japan because it’s a democratic 1st World country, but there are many others with similar systems: Saudi Arabia, Gulf states (at least some), etc…
I mean, they don’t just have residency - this thing exists literally everywhere - but grant citizenship based on ethnicity.

I don’t trust anyone and we as a people shouldn’t. if someone wants to help, they can donate to the fund, but nothing more.
Judea and Samaria can be annexed tomorrow, and the Arabs living there become residents with no voting rights, under our control and strict policing to vet out the weeds while keeping the good seeds. it’s hard, but manageable. but the first and foremost condition to allow this project to succeed is the world needs to fuck off.
if arabs were smart they would have figured out they got the better half of palestine in the first partition plan a century ago. once it was pointed out to me that israel needs to control their side of the jordan river / west bank to stop any invading force from jordan then sharing no longer is sensible. pay a penalty or a lease to the arab inhabitants there and establish border security.

His comments on the two state solution really bothered me. As an Israeli who spent time as a child in the west it took me 20 years to understand why this is a total waste of time and a fantasy dreamed up by idealistic westerners.
For starters, Arafat was a KGB agent, the entire Palestine project was born in Moscow as a tool of war after russias proxies were defeated in the war of attrition and six day war. Hmm I have followed this debate and the responses from both sides with some interest. I agree that most westerners don't understand anything about the conflict. Ex muslims typically know more about the Islamists side than for example people like me who were raised without faith. I think its good that discussions about the serious issue of what should be done with Gaza after the war, is being held. If you and Harris didn't mesh in terms of having a conversation that feels like something positive was accomplished on any level then the conversation should be with other people? Harris did say he was going to play the devils advocate, but didn't make it explicitly clear which positions he put out that were Hamas or western leftist arguments or not. So I can appreciate that it was infuriating to debate him! I do think you projected having arguments rooted in a harsh reality, which I appreciate. I saw a meme today that said debates are not about winning but about reaching understanding.

Even if Israel gets a govt which ostensibly agrees to it , the chances of it ever manifesting are almost zero.

US aid as I understand it, works as in-store credit for our military industrial complex. I also heard that patent laws don’t apply to Israel the same, so they can wind up copying anything they find useful. It’s funny how quick Oct 7 changed my opinion, I used to be critical of sending Israel aid when they never seemed to take our advice; now I don’t mind the aid at all and realize we’re not in a situation to understand what they need to do. Compared to our military ventures, Israeli aid is a drop in the bucket and they make better use of it than we did with our trillions of dollars.

Forcing a two state solution on two groups who themselves don't want two state solution is madness, impractical and a kind of forced truce that is deemed to fail. Heck, two state solution does not even work when the two states have been created with their consent as in the case of India and Pakistan. The Muslims in India before the partition created so many riots, violence and killings of innocent hindus that the hindus were forced to accept the two state solution for the sake of peace. Muslims were given a separate Islamic state of Pakistan. But did the peace come, no. How many wars have they fought in the last seven decades? They have fought three, if not four wars. If atleast one side in a conflict is an Islamic group in a two state theory, there is no peace. It is as if Islam is at perpetual war with its neighbour. Very soon we are going to hear calls for Islamic state within the European countries. This is exactly how it works, first occupy, then create unrest and violence till the indegenous population give them a separate Islamic state. Ever repeating, never ending story until the world crumbles.
The point about re-education is important.
I want to believe that like in many Muslim families here in Canada, one or two generations down the line most of the children and grandchildren of immigrants become secular and adopt the values of their adoptive country. I say that I want to believe that, and perhaps it's true among those who came in the 1960s and 1970s, for example from Guyana and Trinidad (south Asian origin). I don't know how true it will be for newer immigrants or for Muslims from other countries, especially after watching the angry fascist kids.
So whether we are in the "west-west" or in Israel how do we win the battle for values?

The two state solution means creating another Islamic state as if there were not enough of them. Which Islamic state accepts the existence of Israel and wants Jews in their country so that Israel and the Jews want another Islamic state on their borders? First Islam needs to be understood properly and these radical Islamists need to be silenced. Islam needs to become a peaceful religion, not a jihadist religion, and solutions must be sought for this.

One problem is the Western hubris to know solutions for problems all over the world. This appalling behaviour is increased by their refusal to become adequtely informed.
Guilty as charged! In the US we have a long history of mistreating people and sweeping it under the rug, so we assume Israel must’ve done the same. We don’t have to lose any territory or live with hostile neighbors if we criticize our past because most people here are willing to work and live together. It’s ironic that even when people are critical of their own western mindset they still unconsciously apply it to other places.

I disagree with the approach to Harris Sultan here, even though I can see the logic behind your *general stance* on the two-state solution. Like most Israelis, I'm against it (but for the forseeable future). And I agree that outsiders can't fully understand it, at least until they come visit and see it for themselves. And it is VERY frustrating much of the time.
But in general Harris is an excellent ally for Israelis to have. Please check his latest video, "ICC prosecutor seeks arrest..." for a demonstration of that. We don't have many allies nowadays, and in our precarious geopolitical situation, of small numbers in an hostile environment - not to mention global politics right now - we always need allies, physical ones, and cultural ones. Not to capitulate to, no, but also not to send away for disagreements, even strong ones.
As long as they're *true allies*, we can always have discussions. Or just take a break from it, if it's too much sometimes. But why practically wish him away altogether? Ben Gurion and the early Zionists knew well of the need for strategic allies. As well as the good leaders of the country since. I would elaborate more on my points, but a comment in this spirit I made today in your livestream chat seemingly got deleted by the mod/s. 😕 So I'm not sure I want to waste (more) of my time if it may eventually just get deleted.
