    Love my midi system you designed but been really interested in a rdf just the price to buy is pretty ridiculous plus I'd rather build one myself ( from your plans) so I better understand the working of it

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  7 років тому +1

      Hi Sam, That's what has taken me so long with the build. I could only use what is readily available for everybody. So I have put a lot of time into this so everyone can get the parts. A new one this size is £3500.00 and I'm hoping to keep this under £500.00. That's if you buy all the parts. There is so many ways you can cut down on that £500.00 it's untrue. Thanks, Terry

      Is your one made of wood? I have some 12mm polypropylene sheet stashed away from work I can make the box out of

      Hi Sam, Yes I made it out of 18mm best ply. Terry

    Just wanted to let you know my filter system is doing very well.I just flush it once a week and my water is clear enough for my 92 yr. old mom to see the fish. Thank you for your advice and videos! The k1 barrels and gravity feed system works.

    I've been looking into theze drum filters myself. very pricey. but I believe they are tge best out there for what tgey get out, and maintenance. Don't think I could make my own, think I would have to buy one. Can't wait to see yours up and running. Great video as always. love the new net, much better. Happy ponding.

    Hi Wrighty,Another brilliant DIY job.Can you advise which float switch you used as am looking for one to control my pump in the last chamber if my pre filter blocks. I am wanting one that can control a level between 25-75mm and mains voltage. The ones I have seen are low DC.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  7 років тому

      Hi and thank you, sorry, but the ones I'm using are the low DC voltage ones. I got them on ebay. They just trigger a relay. Terry.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  7 років тому +1

      Hi Andrew, I've still got a bit of testing to do yet and have not worked out the cost yet. The thing is I have bought everything new. There's so many things you could save money on when building it will bring the cost right down. I should have results within the next 2 weeks. I will release the build plans on my website diypondfilters.com Terry.

    i have a small discus hatchery and use a swimming pool filter which works very well .
    i find it fascinating to look at some of the filtration systems you pond guys use .
    my question is why not use a pool filter with silica sand in it ?
    i never see this with pond filters , so there probably is a reason for that ?

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  6 років тому

      Hi Mate, It would take me a while to explain here so I have a link for you which will make things easier: www.happykoi.co.za/filters/advanced/sand_filters.htm
      Hope this helps. Terry.

    • @theklrdudeoo9173
      @theklrdudeoo9173 6 років тому

      thanks this made for an interesting read .
      i think the difference is that ponds have a lot more detritus going through their system .
      the article mentions several times that the sand becomes so cloged that it creates anaerobic pockets i guess i never experienced that because the water is already pe-filtered by filter floss in my system and since discus need big water changes it gets back washed every day at least once sometimes more than once .
      i like your video's although i don't have a pond myself ,.... cheers !!!!

      The 3 tub system gives great filtration. I want to know if this system is as good. It certainly won't replace the 3 tub system. there a lot harder to build for a start. Terry.

    Bloody hell terry, is there anything you cant build :) cant wait to see that up and running, if it runs as good as you hope will you wave bye bye to your current system? does it work as a sieve? or is it responsible for building the bacteria too thats needed to clean your pond water? Unreal Job Mate really cant wait for next Video Takecare Bud Kev :)

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  7 років тому

      Hi Kev and thanks mate. I thought when I was up-loading the video. kev's wife won't like this lol. It's a sieve and a filter. It will still need a moving bed for the bacteria. But this is suppose to take the finer rubbish as well. The more it blocks the more finer particles it catches. It's up against the Pro system so it has to be bloody good to beat that mate. I will video everything when first turning it on for everyone to see. Must say I'm a bit excited with it. Terry.

      No mate, I think I missed my vocation in life lol. It's toooo late for me now lol. The biggest problem was finding things for the build everyone can buy easily. Had a few sleepless nights :) and the wife thought I'd left her lol. Hoping I've cracked it now though mate. Hoping to have the working video out in about 2 weeks. Terry.

    Hi Terry Just came across a product on Amazon in the US. And as I can't get cloverleaf in the U.S., I am always on the look out for alternatives if you would please check out Nualgi. Don't know if you can get in the UK But look promising if the product works.
    As finding something that works like cloverleaf in the us is rather hard.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  7 років тому

      Hi Robert, Just had this posted on one of the other video's. Have a read and see what you think.
      Hi Terry, I used 0,3 gram zinkoxide for 1000l water. My pond is 7000l so i put 2,1gram in 10l warm water. I mixed the water and the zinkoxide and then i put it in the pond. For safety reasons i spread the cure over 2 days. So 1,05 gram each day. The next day the algue already went smaller. And now most of the algue is gone and is in the filter. The main ingredient of cloverleaf blanket answer is just zinkoxide. You can buy it for less then a few dollars in the pharmacy. Don't waste your money on algue away goods. Also the zinkoxide didn't make my water milky. Use it at your own risk, but for me it worked wonderful!

    You should add a UV sterilizer on the outside of the drum. I have seen others do this, and it keeps the inside looking almost brand new, without them it will start to grow algae and get mucked up eventually. Looks awesome, can't wait to see it up and running! Here's a link to a vid where he shows running an rdf with and without a UV light.
