I could sit down and listen to Joel Beeke and Paul Smalley talk all day; such refreshing men of God!
More videos like these please! It helps a lot in choosing the right books to give to fellow saints as gifts. I also encourage you to make a video like this one for each of the 84 puritan works you will be releasing. You both have excellent chemistry working together. Perhaps also consider making monthly videos suggesting books on various puritan doctrines.

Haha I went to Grove City College at the same time that Rev Hughes’ daughter was there. I guess I was never invited to one of those evening studies, sadly! I’m going to need to yell at some folks for not telling me about it!

Thank you so much Dr. Beeke and Paul for this video! I am fairly new to the Puritans and their history. I’m fortunate to live in Massachusetts where parts of their stories in America has ta ken place. Sadly where i’m from God seems the farthest thing from our modern world!
I’ve had a hunger to learn about the Puritans .
Your recommendations on these book have been of much help. The lives they lived has been very inspiring for me in my daily life! I’m not the brightest or most educated man around but am happy to learn in my walk! I pray I continue to grow and raise my family to trust and believe in The Lord!

For what it is worth, I didn’t notice the musical strums that much until several of you brought it up. It really didn’t bother me though. I was okay with it. I guess I was busy making my list and checking it twice. Lol. This will take a few years to get all the books mentioned.
Oh I love this. I just bought The Existence and attributes of God by Stephen Charnock from you guys. I am finishing up Knowing God then I will begin Charnock's book. Thank you for expanding my wish list and for existing. Your company is such a blessing.
Charles leiter justification and regeneration is also worth reading. There is lots of books to read and so little time 😢. God bless . Knowing God by J.I packer is my first book I read as a Christian. I believe that’s the one you’re reading unles is by A.W Tozer

@@ChristIsLord247 very profound truths in all books. The one I’m suggesting talks about the work that God does. If we are justified then he has also started a work from inside and out. You can look up the pdf and even the first chapter will grasp you. God bless.

This is a fantastic resource! I'd love it if y'all did this for other areas of church history (early church, reformation, modern, etc) or topics (systematic, biblical, historical, etc)
I have come to appreciate and enjoy the readings of the puritans. My number one favorite is Richard Baxter. And the other puritans such as John owens and Thomas Boston I've come to cherish and to appreciate. And God willing To read many more of the other puritans. Shalom to you.

That list is going to cost quite a bit of money to build up
But what more important things can you do with your money? People spend thousands of dollars a year on being entertained, whether that be going to movies, taking a vacation, music and movie subscriptions or cable etc. It's all a matter of where priorities lie. People always fund money for the things most important to them, but very few things have eternal value.
Please post a written list. Maybe even pin it in comments section to this video.
Crime that Boston’s Crook in the Lot didn’t make this list. If any of you dear Christians are baffled at your afflictions and trials, read it TODAY.
I do not label myself a purtain but an old Quaker so my view maybe less important to you than those that tell ye what to read. For myself if you would know something of these writers look not first at their books but first look at the Gospel and then use that as your guide to which of these to read. Here you would find that one purtain our friends failed to mention is a very early purtain called Richard Sibbs who speaks so often of the presence of Christ and shares with us the perfume of Gospel itself. Forgive me for what may consider amiss for I am no purtain but a friend and brother of Christ who among all things is my first love.
What about John Milton? I don't think you guys get it.
Would you recommend a new reader of the Puritans 1) reading as many books as we can and let the overall mind of Christ be in us, through their influence transforming our character without remembering every detail and argument, or 2) would you recommend reading and interacting with a few choice books and really digging deeper through meditation? (eg. Puritan Box Set vs the entire catalogue of Puritan Paperbacks)? Dr. Beeke poured over his father's collection and read as much as possible. Yet he also recommends sitting with one author such as Goodwin and really dig deep in interaction. Piper says that it is better to read a few books well, instead of many but at a lower level of interaction. AW Tozer says that the reason many people do not understand the classics is because they have no intention of obeying them. Wouldn't this take more than a single reading to incorporate?
In your opinion, which will transform the character more deeply? Because of these great works in public domain, limited shelf space and financial strain are no longer a drawback in following Richard Baxter's advice on minimum reading lists for Christians.
2. For most people: deep read less books as opposed to skim reading lots (as Piper would argue). If you read Beeke, you will realise that his capacity for reading wisely is above average.

Don't let the religious matrix of the Puritans get in the way of the proclamation. Christ alone is our righteousness and this is put to our account; it is not infused in our life. Our minds need to dwell on the Who and not the how.

"Plato’s Republic. We ought to have more opportunities for people of all ages to engage that text.
Another is Jonathan Edwards’ A Treatise Concerning Religious Affections. I didn’t read this volume until I was 50; I should have read it when I was 20. Most people only know Edwards through his fiery sermon 'Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,' because it is often included in anthologies. Every minister in the time of Edwards had to have a 'fire and brimstone' sermon in his back pocket. But this sermon is so unlike Edwards and the rest of his work. He was a thoughtful and loving teacher and scholar.
The third book would be Augustine’s Confessions."
