This product is workig very well in wood and plastics, I wouldn't recommend any metal turning on it though. Overall from an old tool guy, I highly recommend this lathe as long as you realize that this is for small turning only. I bought this a few weeks ago and have noticed the price has gone from $174. to $249. Might want to get one sooner than later.

Hi Jack, I turned one of these in the obvious axis to make a door stop. I found the plastic coating very dangerous as it collected into a long continuous ribbon. I also learnt that although made from maple blocks it was slightly hollow in the middle. Fantastic quality in your tool control and imagination. Thanks Paul

What an idea for a project! I’m afraid what I would’ve done was slice 60-70 percent of the bottom off, turned that into a deep cup, and turned the top into a mini pin ad drilled the top for a weed pot. Bravo, bowing to a really neat project.
Your video showed up in my feed, and I find woodworking interesting (my great and my great great grandfathers both were woodworkers, they did cabinetry and coffin building, and one was a ship’s carpenter, so I supposed that’s why it interests me). I think would have made it into a clock. In fact, that’s what I thought you were making, when you started hollowing out the bowl. Super cool!!!

Kinda wished you made a very slight curve to the longer side to use as a dip cup, key/change holder, etc. OR made the whole thing into a rolling pin as another brilliant comment (from: Paul Matthew St. Pierre) had suggested. Maybe a second video?? Btw, as a side note, I didn’t realize how easy it is to remove the outer vinyl lining. (Thanks for including that part in the video) You’re definitely a brave & talented wood turner to take on such an odd shape item, especially in the direction you started in. 👏🏻

I had this bowling pin sitting on a shelf in the workshop for ages trying to Work out what to turn it into.. I’m pretty sure this is the only shape that keeps it honest to its origins as a bowling pin. What do you think?

Cheers will. I k ew what shape I was going for but I didn’t know there would be holes in the maple insides. I think it’s likely that the hole are used to mount to bowling pin the first time it was turned on a CNC lathe
