Great video. I've only had Grange once (1998), and my impressions matched your notes from this video. I agree that these wines need time- the 98 was a baby! For my palate, all the best Syrah/Shiraz wines share the characteristic that you describe here- lots of red and black fruit flavors but with a savory finish. Also love the the distinction between real fruit jam and cheap jelly. Keep up the great work!
Thank you as always for sharing your knowledge and reviews. As someone who is relatively new to wine, Penfolds Grange is a ‘one day’ purchase. Happy drinking 🍷
James: thx for taking the time to leave a comment. I am hopeful that one day when you drink Grange, watching my videos beforehand will give you a great appreciation for the wine. Cheers!
Penfolds is one of my favorite wine choices. I have had the max' shiraz cabernet, the bin 389, the bin 8, and the bin 407, and I am waiting for a good opportunity to buy the Grange at some point. Interesting video! Cheers.
rick: I think they are quallity producer. Only one I think is a bit borderline is the Max...it used to be pretty good but I do think the quality has gone down a bit in the last few years. Cheers!
ashiga: I am too...I have a person I want to try it with and we are scheduled to have dinner in mid January so the review will be out in February 2025. Cheers!
Love your videos and insights and I really hope I can one day try some of the wines you're showing. Just honest feedback from a follower, maybe it's OCD (lol) or the fact that I always watch with headphones on but the sound of teeth hitting each other during tasting is uncomfortable to me so I tend to mute that section haha. Is there a reason behind your tasting method?
Gini: thanks for the feedback.. I think it is the mic is so close to my throat that you hear me chewing on my wine. Honestly, it is not that loud in person so let me try to edit that part. The only reason I don't edit it as I don't want people to think you can actually taste a wine well without really chewing or swirling it around in your mouth for several seconds. Never thought about the headphones as I always edit without headphones but I can see how that would be annoying. Good feedback and me try to improve this in January (since some of my videos are already done and edited). Cheers!
Alex: in this situation, where I knew I was going to drink over 2 days, I did not decant. I just served out of bottle and drank it for about 3 hours...then vacuumed all the air out and put in the fridge overnight, then took it out again about 2 hours before doing my review to get it back to room temperature. In a normal drinking situation, I would give it 2-3 hours in a decanter before drinking. Cheers!
Another great video Trophy. As an Aussie I would love you to try a Henschke Hill of Grace at around 20yo(02,04,05,08) and a Clarendon Hills Australia with around the same age. Like Grange, the age is very important to get the best out of these wines and hopefully you can get them both in Canada?
david: I have tried old Henschke Hills of Grace and at same level, maybe slightly lower than Grange. Probably have had Clarendon Hills but can recall it so it wasn't as memorable and not an older vintage. No, I don't think we see either of the wines at BC Liquor Stores. Cheers!
seanm; I get my wines from various sources. I actually bought this bottle at a charity auction a few years ago. I paid CDN$550 so I thought it was a great price. Cheers!
@TrophyWineHunter awesome! Really enjoy your content and transparency. Novice wine enthusiasts bouncing from whiskey over here haha. Do you have any video covering your type 5 or so wine experiences or glasses?
@@seanm4887 no, I actually don't rate top 5.....it is so personal and honestly every wine experience to me is so special. For wine glasses, I can talk about what I use but as long as they are pretty good wine glasses it is OK. I do a yearly review where I recap highlights of the year so you can see my video for 2023. If you are novice, please also view my wine basics videos or playlist..that has some videos that you will hopefully find useful. Cheers!
John: I have also reviewed the Penfolds 600 on my channel so refer to that video. I just find Grange a bit more elegant that the Penfolds California blends. Cheers!
Superb review as always sir. Cheers
barnibizier: thanks so much for your kind comment. I really means a lot to me. Cheers!

Do you recommond Bottle Breathing or Decanting, was the three-hour breathing in your video done in a decanter?

Can you go into more insight on pricing and "finding" these types of trophy wines? Out of genuine curiosity

There are a couple of Penfold's California blends, that to me, are better than the Grange. Of vourse you'll pay a premium for many of them.
