In the Lake Line, what you would want is a shoe built on the Competition last, in a wide. Either the MX 219, MX238, or MX 242. Should be a bit more rounded toe area, and a somewhat wider toe box, about 4mm wider than the MX177 you bought, in the size 44.
Course, these are quite a bit more expensive than the 177. They do have some older models in your size for sale in their outlet store, the MX241 in a camo green, which is sorta ugly, and the MX238 in a camo black.

Thank you. Looking at them, not sure. Toe box still looks pointy. A friend of mine told me to look at the Specialized Recon and it looks much rounder in the toe box. I bet I can find some at a local store to try on. And they're on sale dirt cheap (the Recon 1.0 on Specialized web site).

I got the same problem. I run in German Joe Nimble shoes that are similar to the Altras. Lake that (to me) maybe is the only mtb shoe manufacturer that cares about foot ergonomics still does not make it correctly. Compensation for bunions or prevention of bunions is not made by widening the shoe behind the toes but at the toes. Just like Altra does. Widening with wooden blocks might stretch the upper but the sole will remain narrow.

@@MTBIKEXCdid the Recon work for you? I’m looking at the Lake and Recon options. The Recon 1.0 can be quite cheap.

      Mx242 ❤

Competition last is not much of a help here. Comfort Plus last is the answer, but they refuse to make any GOOD pair (MX169 and MX201 are just plain bad). MX242 is a clown shoe as well, more pointy than a well sharped pencil.

I gave up looking for wide toe box mountain biking shoes some time ago. Having made the full switch to minimalist wide toe box zero drop shoes, I now just go out riding in my wide toe box trail shoes. So much better.

Lake's Competition last has more splay than the Sport last. They now make a Comfort Plus last which is the Altra-style natural toebox you're looking for: CX/MX201

Any luck widening the Lakes? Or any other solutions? This video was very helpful. I'm in the same boat. Wear 4E in most shoes, but regular with in Altras, which I love. Not having any luck with FiveTen, Specializaed, Giro. Not willing to spend for the high-end Lake, but *maybe* the MX177 X Wide would work?

Agree the MX177 is not wide at all! I'm emailing Altra to get them to make cycling shoes :)

Lake makes certain models in 4E width, bont also makes 4E and less pointy shoes.

Would the MX332 Extra Wide be one of those? Very pricey. Ugh... I so hate ordering shoes through the mail.

@@MTBIKEXC yea the 332 extra wide is 4e, seems like they only make their higher end models with 3 different widths.

Did you check out the Lake MX169 (Lace up) vs MX201 with boa, shaped close to the Ultra Temp 3. I am considering these as I have a super wide foot. I followed the Lake sizing guide, emailed the drawing and measurements per their instructions and Garrett with Lake has been super helpful.

Did you buy these? I want to order them and know how they fit.

    • @cdnfreightbroker3708
      @cdnfreightbroker3708 4 місяці тому

I did, twice. I ordered based on size chart but the first pair 41.5 was too narrow and just barely correct length. I returned and ordered 43.5. Right foot was good but left a bit barrow but good length. I have the issue that my left is slightly bigger.I returned the 43.5. I will try 44.5 or 45 later in the summer. Quality of shoe is fantastic. Stuff sole but the lace up style is great to adjust tightness exactly as you need. Suppoert from Lake Shoes top notch. I previously had size 44 with previous shoes, should have just ordered what I know fits. Best is start with Lake size chart, what recommends, then go to a local bike store and try that size with what they carry to see if length will fit. Lake will fit wider so use another shoe brand as a guide vs what Lake shoes recommendations and figure if you need to size up or if Lake's recommendations will work.

Quite complicated. 3 sizes up is a lot. I will do exactly as you say, i.e. I will order what lake recommends, I hope it will fit, because I have to order from abroad. Thanks

We all should make a petition for natural shaped cycling shoes. It's so stupid to continue with ultra tapered shoes... apparently people think you are faster with them cause they resemble a rocket 😅
By the way, I stumbled across the brand "lore", they make barefoot cycling shoes.... the only downside is they cost one of your kidneys

Lake have a new last which might work for you in MX201 and MX169.

    •  Рік тому

MX 169 as seen on Facebook adverts is regular only. It looks nice is not available as a wide option. At least according to their sizing chart.
I talked with Lake via email and my feet (285×110 mm) would fit best in MX 241 wide size 46.
