I literally joined the Marines, what seems like a life time ago, in large part because of the impact the Halo marines made on me. Naive to be sure, but such are the whims of young men
I thought the same way about Noble 6 as a kid. Many did. Like Echo 419, I held on to the thought of 6 surviving. However, as I got older. I realized good ending, are sometimes not happy ending. Just the nature of war.
Captain Rawley and her crew were amazing, and instrumental in assisting Chief and company throughout Installation 04. Were it not for her sacrifice, the rest of the series might have turned out different. I really loved her in the first game. It was rare seeing a normal Marine befriend and help out the Chief in such an impactful way. It is also part of the reason why I loved Fernando in Halo Infinite - one of the truly normal Human characters in the series, befriending Chief. Fernando was just like any other person - he had a family, was devoted to helping out his fellow man, wanted to live to see another day...
The only other character that could have matched Sgt Johnson’s charisma. One of the biggest shames in the Halo franchise was that Johnson and Foehammer never had an interaction.
For the longest time I thought halo and the other conflict sci fi stuff I was into would make me go into science, then game development, but I have finally found my true passion because of them, the military. I know I'm not alone either. As odd as it is, as much as my original thought was just make Uncle Sam pay for my college and give me a job, it really became a calling for me, and I thank the developers, writers, and voice actors of Halo for helping inspire me, legitimately in some of my lowest moments thinking about things like Noble 6 never quitting or collapsing regardless of how many of their friends fell, how Chief kept going even when he lost Cortana and Johnson died knowing that they and all those before them would have given everything so he could succeed. The sight of the glassing of Reach was a major point for me, because it put into perspective things I have heard of, making numbers of civilians no longer just a statistic. And as I got older, more and more fell into place. I will always remember Reach, I will always remember Echo 491. I will remember Johnson and Cortana. I will remember Noble team. And those core, shaping moments will make sure I never forget or diminish the level of real tragedies that happen, and will ensure I will fight with every step I take, to ensure I will run and if I cannot run, walk, and if I cannot walk, crawl, but by all means keep moving forward.
would love to see more content with this character in it. she had such unique voice lines that stood out. got the sense that she loved her job. always living in the moment, aggressive yet cheerful and humble in the face of all manner of chaos til the very end, ready at a moment's notice, the energetic team player trying to keep every part at play, content to sacrifice her life if/when the situation called for it in service of the greater good, ever focused on the bigger picture. she knew what she signed up for yet it was still devastating because she was so indominable that you got the sense she would just get back up after a devastating crash as if nothing happened, look for survivors in typical fashion and worry about them instead of herself.
No one ever mentions the female pilot in halo 3 either. I think her name was hocus or something. She picked us up at the end of Sierra 117 and flew us to the ark and she was just forgotten about after that
Foehammer would've been an amazing character to have in the trilogy as Chief's personal pilot. Imagine if she decided to enlist in the spartan 4 program and had a modified Pilot armor.
She and her crew are amazing people. They did everything they could. RIP 🪦 I have never forgotten her and never will. I never knew her crew till I watched this video.
i was fine until the description of the crash. that really hurt me deep down inside for some reason. you dont recover from a 45* nose low inverted attitude that low. you just cant...
Few things mess with my head, but the idea of knowing before you crash you're done for is the worst. Many aircraft accidents involve finding yourself in a situation where it's unrecoverable too low to the ground. Fighting to recover knowing full well based off your altitude you just won't be able to.
Halo CE was the first and only Halo I've played, and I've been invested in the storyline for many years, Echo 419 was one of those characters I hoped would be brought back like Johnson, but it was a shame to have her throughout the entire Campaign to see her die like that. She's the reason why I'm so into aircraft, lol, especially Utility Helicopters.
i was 12 when CE come out i played it 2 years later and thought halo 1 and 2 were already out i said damit theirs another 1 year to wait ! but good times none the less!
Y'know, until I paid attention to the thumbnail which spelled out "Foehammer", I was semi-convinced this video was about TJ Murphy from Spartan Ops. He was rather badass in my opinion. I'm sure most people don't want to acknowledge S Ops period.
Honestly, as sad as it is to realize I don't know if the attack on the ascendant justice would have worked without that longsword. Granted chief probably would have figured something out, it'd just have been an order of magnitude more difficult
I haven't even watched this video that UA-cam showed me, but you better believe I'm leaving a comment that emphatically agrees with the title. Well, I agree at least with what I think the title means: *Foehammer* Echo-419 was the airship, right? Or is that covered in the video? Nevermind, I'll follow up after I watch it later on. Kthnxbyyeeee
It sounded like you said there were Marines assisting the Master Chief on the Pillar of Autumn. I don't remember anything like that from the game or the novelization, who was there and what were they doing?
She's basically the halo version of a Helicopter pilot, I would say her current day equivalent would be a Night Stalker/pilot from the 160th Speacial Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) The skills required to be a Night Stalker vs a Fighter pilot are very different and don't necessarily overlap. Also I'm not sure how the current USMC separates pilots, but I would imagine pilot candidates probably have some say weather they'll be rotary or fixed wing, so in CPT. Rawlings aka Foehammer's case, I'm sure being a "helo" pilot was her choice and that's what she ended up being trained to do
All due respect to the Spartans, but ODST's and other regular humans influenced me more. They're one of the main reasons I started as an airborne qualified infantryman back in '09. Wether we stand a chance against an alien species or not, all of these UFOs getting shot down send one clear message. We will not go gently into that good night. Just like the brave men and women of the Halo Lore did before us.
Only Chief & Sgt Stacker are still alive, everyone else present at alpha halo even those that made it off the ring died whether in game or in later games ie johnson, Cortana.. Locklear, Polaski & Haverson died in first strike

Hearing how young they actually are really grounds halo for me I know ots a work of fiction but it feels so real now, knowing Fry was my same age.
I nicknamed my first car, Foehammer, as a double reference to Echo 419 and Gandalf.
