    Thanks a lot for the consistency, your videos always help with my cakes. I always cover my boards for the polished look so I'll try this method next time. Here's what I do to hide the seams, make a paste with a bit of water and small amount of the leftover fondant. I find this works because the color matches perfectly and it dries down solid

    Ok so I will try to remember to send you the pictures, but I just wanted to Shout Out to you, thanks for all the tips n tricks. And for encouraging me to try Fondant! My last two cakes were LOVED by everyone! The latest one being a Marine Corps cake for a young man who just graduated from the Marine Corps. The whole family and their friends who came to the party love the cake and promised to definitely order all their cakes through me. Just the pictures of the cake got me 3 more birthday Cake orders and a Wedding cake order.
    Anyways I owe it all to you.
    And my husband says Thanks! Lol he gets all the "Scraps" from trimmings of the cake to left over Fondant trimmings lol, now I have to add Peppermint flavors, he wants me to make him Soft Peppermint Candies out of your fondant recipe lol... I don't get it but he loves it!
    Anyways thank you so much for all your tutorial videos and encouragement.
    Back to studying up for the Navy and Coast Guard cakes I have book!

      @@KarolynsKakes lol, I will try to make some next week, and if it comes out right will let you know lol.
      I figured on making half the batch red half white, roll out in 1/8" strings and twist to make ropes, then cut in 1/2" long pieces, let dry and store in an air tight container,. I will let you know how it turns out.
      Oh and so excited, I got an order for a Navy Cake and a Coast Guard cake. Another guy said he wanted to see pictures of them he may order an Army one.

    Omg Perfect Timing!
    Got a message for a Last Minute cake for this weekend. Marine Corps Cake, and they sent a picture of a cake, that honestly I'm not that impressed with a but I feel it would look much nicer if I covered the board in fondant... I am waiting at a Dr appointment, and was going to look this up when I got home. So yes perfect timing! And Thank You for another very informative video! Lots of Love From TX!

    Thank you so much Karolyn! I’ve always done this backwards. Thanks to you with my next cake I’ll try this technique. I always start my cakes by covering the cake board in fondant then placing the board overnight in the freezer to solidify. Then I plop the cake on it and begin working on it. I always hate that I have to keep cleaning it and when I’m working with red OMG it’s horrible cleaning the fondant. I had tried your initial technique but I just couldn’t make it work. At some point it would bunch up. I think this technique will work. Very smart! Thank you!

      You're welcome honey! I have covered the entire board before. But I ice and decorate the cake on a cardboard circle and then transfer it to the board so I don't mess it up. It can be a pain in the butt! I hope this way helps!

If so did it help you was it a game changer for you? As I said to you before I’m a beginner and just trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks in advance

      For 10", I would use a 14" board.
      For 1/2 sheet, I would use (approx.) 14" x 19" board.

  • @tatianab209
    @tatianab209 2 роки тому

    Hi love your work first off!!! I just have a question if you put to much tylose powder in the fondant can you bring it back to soft or is it just done with?

    • @tapiwashendelane518
      @tapiwashendelane518 2 роки тому

      I'm interested to know too because I end up disposing the hardened fondant

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  2 роки тому +1

      If there is way too much, then I toss it. You may be able to soften it in the microwave, but it can get really hot and be difficult to work with.
      I reuse fondant until it dries super hard. Sometimes it keeps getting harder as you microwave it and let it sit out too long.
      If I can still squeeze it when it's cool, then I will reuse it!

    Hi do u charge for covering the cake board

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  2 роки тому +1

      Something like this is really easy, so I wouldn't really charge extra for it. If they want a decorated cake board that will take a while to do, then I would charge depending on how long I think it will take. So I guess between $20 - $60 depending on the detail. That's just a rough estimate though.
