    For Those Who Don’t Know:
Houses are meant to be firmly planted on the ground, providing shelter from the elements. But what if, by some bizarre accident or cosmic mischief, a fully built house somehow ended up in space-and then, due to gravity, it began plummeting toward Earth? The results would be destructive, chaotic, and weirdly fascinating.
The Setup: A House in Space
For this scenario, let’s assume a standard two-story suburban house, complete with:
A wooden frame, drywall, and shingled roof
    A weight of about **100,000 kg (220,000 lbs)**ⁱ
Windows, doors, furniture, and maybe even an unlucky couch left inside
Now, let's drop it from low Earth orbit (LEO), where objects travel at roughly **28,000 km/h (17,500 mph).**²
Atmospheric Entry: A Flaming House from the Sky
As the house enters Earth's atmosphere, it will:
Experience extreme friction, with temperatures reaching **1,600°C (2,900°F)**³
Begin to break apart, as the intense heat and air pressure rip it to shreds
Transform into a meteor, leaving a fiery debris trail across the sky
Most of the house will burn up completely, but some pieces-like the foundation or appliances-might survive.
Impact: When a House Becomes a Bomb
Assuming some debris survives re-entry, we’d see:
A powerful explosion-the remaining structure would hit the ground **at terminal velocity (~200 mph for large debris)**⁴
A small but destructive crater, possibly 10-20 meters (30-60 feet) wide
Flying debris, smashing nearby buildings and cars
If it landed in a city, it could flatten multiple houses. If it hit a forest, it might start wildfires. If it landed in the ocean, well... at least the fish get a free real estate deal.
    Final Thoughts
A falling house isn’t an extinction-level event, but it would be a massive disaster for anyone nearby. So, if you ever see a house streaking through the sky in flames, you should probably run-because home really is where the impact is.
