    Jason is definitely back in the groove in this episode.....knew he would! Lack of a consistent deep sleep can break anyone down, especially when things begin to fail and then even little things become mountains. Been there.

      I too, am an addict. I kept seeing this couple on my sailing news feed and then I finally clicked it and literally, the month of July and August, I watched as soon as I woke up, on my breaks and lunch and pretty much way past my bedtime. I am watching their RV things now and now I want to live in one. Like, everyone pretty much is doing that now. And Singha and t h at other elusive cat are just adorbs.

    As an RVer I've been following you since the RV days. I appreciate your enthusiasm for sailing and the destinations are beautiful, but it looks like waaaaay too much work, isolation, nausea, cost, and stress. Keep doing what you enjoy and I'll keep watching, but I'm sticking with my wonderful RV life and will just fly to those exotic locations : )

    I was in the Navy for 8 years, 5 years on board two ships. Took a few times to get use to the motion, but after underway watches and daily shipboard maintenance, I was able to handle any type of seas. I can relate to the dull times at sea, however, keep your spirits up. Not too much time on a sailboat, but did go with my brother on his mono hull in the SF Bay and under the Golden Gate Bridge. Also, I never became a Shellback, which makes me a Pollywog! Enjoy your ventures upon the seas and be safe!

    Not long to go you guys. this sailing trip seems to be far your most challenging,pertaining to weather,and rough sea's. you are real sailors in your own rights, and your bravery, courage, keeping your spirits up is just a delight to watch. the experience you gain from each trip must be invaluable,and when i watch your vids, you inspire me so much. i hope and pray its easy sailing from this point, + the videography you guys put out is always on point. see you on land. big luv. xx 'ps'.. remember to strap in, when sea's get rough ( safety first)

    It's so comforting to see stuff break on your boat too. It seems we ALWAYS have something unexpected break on ours. The worst one was the motor stopped while headed back to the marina. The sun was setting, we still had a good 1-2hours to go and we could not trust the wind to get us back, let alone dock with just the sails. So we had the genoa out and headed towards a nearby island. Pulled in the genoa, dropped two anchors and prayed to the sea gods we would stop before hitting the shore. One anchor took and was enough to keep us in place long enough to get towed to a dock nearby. So as awful as it is to have stuff break onboard, know you're not alone! Glad nothing too bad broke though.

    You two are doing great. No one can appreciate your situation in rough seas unless you've felt the touch of mother nature. You will treasure more those calmer days after the storm. I sailed with 284 men and it was in a storm that ripped steel doors of the back of the ship.. I'm gonna just come right out and say it. I think your next adventure should be on the crew to Mars.

    my heart is in panic mode just watching u on deck not strapped in... please be ware of the comfort of sea travel and the lull a long distance trip can produce ... there is ALWAYS the danger of mob in those sea states and anything from a slippery deck to tripping on a line or simply loosing your balance cld be disasterous... take care, strap in, and arrive safely..

    • @svyarikasailing5942
      @svyarikasailing5942 6 років тому +17

      After that many days at sea with just the two of them they are surely not at their peak alertness. PFD at the minimum while on deck. Harness is like your seat belt. Sure you wouldn't drive to the store without yours on would you>

    • @onthebeaches
      @onthebeaches 6 років тому +21

      A Conneely. Thanks for your comment but I believe your reasoning is a tad flawed. Like S/V Yarika Sailing said...you wouldn't drive to the store without your seat-belts. And yes, maybe the odds of Nikki falling off the boat are far less than getting in an accident driving in traffic. However once it happens, its all over and the fat lady will sing. There's no way Jason could ever spot and get that boat turned around. Her beautiful head (that's the only thing visible once shes in the water) would be out of site after one swell came up on the back of the boat. Even if you had a spotter and their only job was to point and watch where Nikki fell over...there's still very little chance Jason can do a figure 8 and get back to where she was. This is clearly why people should wear a PFD and be clipped in. And, also have a personal AIS MOB in their PFD in case one of the other systems fail. If you're clipped in and go overboard with a PFD on, you will still mostly likely be lost at see. You must have redundant system. There's no such thing as being TOO SAFE! Ü

      i am so pleased to have started this thread... i have been a life long sailor and have been at sea on passage... i know how "normal" being on a boat becomes over time and letting the safety regs slip is so easy.. but sleep depravation can make the most agile athlete hiccup and without a tether hooked onto a secure spot , disaster is only a nano second away...it never hurts to hook in but hurts forever if you loose someone overboad... and YES a mob in that sea state with only one person left onboard to search and rescue is a death sentence.. sail safe , arrive happy, and go again and again.. nothing on earth, in my humble opinion, replicates the joy of sailing.

    Great video guys
    I had my steering chain snap at 23h30 in 30 knots of wind one night on my Leopard 40. Lucky the boat was well balanced to she was sailing straight while I used some dyneema to tie the broken chain together for the night. In the morning I used my small Drimel grinder to remove a link and join the chain and put it together again. These things happen and it’s great and satisfying to sort things out and sail on. Yes I’m sure Kent is proud of you guys a year on hey. !

  • @mrnickbig1
    @mrnickbig1 6 років тому +30

    1. You desperately need to grease all the bearings, preferably with a moly grease as soon as possible. WD-40 is a very temporary fix, and actually washes away real grease. Also, one of the chains on the steering seems to be too tight. 2. The "fan blade" is called an impeller. 3. A temporary traveler can be rigged with line and a pulley, if you want more speed.

    • @tbonemc2118
      @tbonemc2118 6 років тому +9

      Yes this is right. WD 40 or CRC are not lubricants. They are actually oil and water dispersants originally designed for electronics. They are regularly used to free things up but once it dries it has no lubrication properties and whatever it's been used on will start to rust very quickly. I'd use a similar aerosol can of motor bike chain lube for applications like you were working on. It's easy to apply and used judiciously will not make a mess and will adhere to where you want it. A correctly tightened motor bike chain should have about 25mm of movement from the direct line between sprockets. You don't have any suspension to allow for with your steering gear so you won't need that much but the chain should have some give between sprockets so as not to over work the bearings on the sprockets.

    • @kevinfisher1345
      @kevinfisher1345 6 років тому +2

      Yep agreed and while might get away with WD-40 on land for awhile, in that ocean air which will only enhance the rust not something you want to let go for long time without greasing them back up.

      Yes. I freaked out when I saw that damage. Don't step on the broken part.

    Be safe out there. I have to admit that I enjoyed the RV videos much more than the sailing so good luck.

    You two are a good example for the rest of sitting around sipping coffee to get off our butts and do something challenging today.

    Always enjoy watching, Sunday never comes soon enough. I'd be scared out in that water and worried sick about breaking down in the middle of the ocean. We know you made it safely. Until next time stay safe and enjoy.

    Love you guys. Noticed the increase in colorful language 😂 as the days go on. Can’t help but feel this boat is going bye bye soon after this adventure. Seems so arduous with a crew of 2. Sending you guys plenty of positive energy. You both are awesome for keeping your heads through the many challenges.
