What a English, sir you were speaking
Dear Mr. Ganesh,
I wanted to ask this question for both this lesson and the other may/might lesson:
Which is the more gramatically correct or stylistically acceptable version?
Do you think you might have left the door open?
or
Do you think THAT you might have left the door open?
Is the "that" required in such questions?
Thank you in advance.
Both are grammatically correct. In this type of use, "that" is called a complementizer, i.e., it introduces the complement clause "you might have left the door open" which completes the meaning of the verb "think." In this particular sentence, "that" is optional because the meaning is clear. But if there is any possibility of confusion, "that" should be included, ex:
"The latest report from the Central Bank indicates fears of economic slowdown may be overblown."
There is potential for confusion here because initially the reader is made to think that the report expresses fear of economic slowdown. But in reality, the report actually says such fears are unfounded. So, "that" should be used after "indicates":
"The latest report from the Central Bank indicates *that* fears of economic slowdown may be overblown."
Thanks you sir your accent and your teaching awesome.
thank you sooooooo much

Hi Saquib, I'm very happy to hear you are finding the lessons useful :) To improve your vocabulary, I suggest keeping a notebook where you note down any new vocabulary that you learn. You can find new words by reading interesting books or watching movies. You should review your vocabulary notebook regularly to make sure you are able to remember and recall the new vocabulary.
