    Absolutely love this stuff. It's hard to go back to other WB pomades after using this. Great pomade for people who have wavy or curly hair like myself. Straightens out your hair no problem and makes it very easy to achieve the style you're looking for.

    The Pomp Been using Layrite for a while now and it works the best for me, great review. Im actually happy that I watched this because I was thinking about trying the Suavecito but you mentioned you wished you tried the Layrite before ever messing with Suavecito and made it pretty clear Layrite is the better product. So I'll take your word for it and I wont downgrade haha, thanks dude!

      +kwade220 Alas toe each their own but the regular yellow-canned Layrite I found overrated over two years aog and I switched the buying Suavecito (original, not the firm hold) in bulk. Much better and a more masculine scent as well too. Alas to each their own, though as we all have differing hair types now! :D

    Hey the pomp, I have thick, wavy, kinda curly and frizzy hair. Which pomade do you think would be able to tame the waviness and curliness to make it straight and slicked back kinda like your pomp? The layrite deluxe, super hold or imperial barber classic pomade? Or any other water based pomade? Not really looking forward to petroleum based as I'm afraid it cannot wash out easily. Thanks!

    Definitely not pointless! I was using layrite for 4 years then I stopped. I gotta say I was using it wrong the whole time. A coworker always had this awesome psychobilly hairdo and I always felt stupid asking him how he did his hair. so much for being ignorant. great vid. totally helps. now I can pull out my 4 cans I've been sitting on for the last 5 years.

    layrite deluxe pomade, or layrite super hold pomade?

  • @jongallivan7164
    @jongallivan7164 9 років тому +1

    How long does it take until this pomade dries out? I like restyling my hair throughout the day but I cannot spend tons of money on super high end products (I don't have the money, neither do I have enough to keep trying out different cheap products). I do not want to keep throwing away pomades that let me down.
    I am looking for a pomade that doesn't dry or at least takes hours to dry, no to low shine (natural look as much as possible), strong hold (I am asian and my hair is very thick and difficult to work with), doesn't matter if it is hard to wash out either, fifteen dollars and under, I know I am being very picky but any help would be great! Thanks!

    • @HarrisonTruong
      @HarrisonTruong 9 років тому

      +Jon Gallivan Most waterbased/water soluble products that fall under the "gel" or "orthodox" category will dry up. You're leaning towards the unorthodox waterbased products, which have a bit of hydrogenated castor oil in them to prevent your hair from drying up and giving it the ability to style throughout the day. Some products I can think of are: Odoud's WB, Flagship pomades, clay pomades...basically a lot of what's on the shop. They won't fall into your $15 budget, but they're on there for a reason. If you have thick hair and it's difficult to work with (wavy or curly) like mine, you might be best off with Blackship (strong) or Odouds (med-strong).

    • @jongallivan7164
      @jongallivan7164 9 років тому

      Harrison Truong Thanks I checked out all those products you mentioned. Now I am pretty much sold on the Odoud's pomade except... the shine. In the reviews I saw, they say it has a slight shine and that is definitely what it appears like. but that's under neath artificial lighting.
      If I was outside underneath sunlight would you say this product still retains a somewhat natural look without too much shine?
      Right now I am using Old Spice spiffy Pomade. I know it isn't the best thing to compare to something higher end such as Odoud's but I am trying to acheive the same look as the Old Spice but without it drying on me.
      Also thanks for the quick and informative answer! I really do appreciate it!

    • @HarrisonTruong
      @HarrisonTruong 9 років тому

      +Jon Gallivan Yeah, there's a tiny amount of shine. Although it's considered a waterbased product, it does have quite a bit of oil in it, which I'm assuming gives it the shine. A light application won't give you tons of shine, but the more you use, the more shine it'll have due to a slight buildup.
      At this point, I think the best solution for you, if you're going for a strong-hold with no shine, or something along the lines of a natural-style, is to use a clay, or clay-like product (i.e., Uppercut Deluxe, Flagship Black Ship). Clays provide more grip, leading to that natural look with good styling capabilities. One downside, for my unruly hair at least, is because the product itself isn't heavy, there tends to be a need for more restyling due to strays popping up throughout the day. It's less slick. And the other annoying thing is with thick hair, and the amount of grip these products have, you're going to have a fun time applying it...

      +BJ Penn No worries: With a modern day Water-Soluble one as their called or other styling names such as Gel-Pomade or Unorthodox Pomade which is what these lines are, Gel-Pomade or Water-Soluble, however you choose to name the styling item/product, its fine. They rise out with one rinse and they go fine enough with the whole Rockabilly/Neo Rockabilly sub-culture lifestyle that many like me lead & choose. Just one thing: If you're like me and dislike super grease and you have traditionally fine, Caucasian hair that is more thicker and needs work, then yeah the oil-based petroleum pomades (such as Murray's Superior, Royal Crown Pomade, Royal Crown Hair Dressing, NuNile which is also a Murray's product line item ect) won't really do shit for you. I slowly tried them all over a two year period and I had to buy new novelty pin up/Marilyn Monroe bedding comforter as well as to re-buy two modern day country-western cowboy shirts (long sleeve) from Amazon. So yeah they ruin things plus time around four plus washes (!) to get out. I disliked how if it got on things it ruined them or nearly did, such as t ruined a past comforter/sheet set of mine. Ugh.Honestly you can have a nice "build up" and not have to reuse as much for almost three days in a row, but yeah I disliked the honest petroleum based pomades as I'm a single wash a day guy. Found 'em overrated myself but alas to each their own! Best of luck in finding a new item as well too! But I believe while the hair less thing is an old wise tale I _DO_ know for most ethnicities that using real oil based pomades all the time isn't good in the long run. Alas to each their own, though. I certainly was broke out a lot with pimples when I used oil based ones but I cleared up in under two weeks once I stopped. Water-Soluble or Gel-Pomades as I call 'em are nearly 90% better & I prefer them myself.

      Ricardo8388 layrite super shine doesn't get hard.... it styles just like an oil based but washes out in 1 wash, the only negative is the smell, but the smell can easily be overpowered with some hairspray or strong smelling shampoo

      EdilarinProducts It doesnt get hard? well I must have spend way to much money on a fake yellow yellyish gel like substance in a layruite container with a vanilla smell. and btw super shine isnt that the brown kind? this video is about the normal yellow one

      Ricardo8388 no the brown is super hold, super shine is the yellow one. It scoops out like a cream and it stays restylable during the whole day.

      +Sheik Muhammad Nabil Suavecito pomade. Not the Firm Hold. Love the original Suavecito. You can get three tins from a third party seller on Amazon for around one of the overrated Layrite. I by Suavecito regularly. I love its scent as well too, its very masculine like a nice cologne scent as The Pomp noted in a past review and uniquely strong. Never liked Layrite's gel-like problems or its feminine scent. Alas many like it and to each their own! Their red one, the Layrite super shine is solid but I last tried it over three years ago but for water-soluble pomades I use Suavecito as it reactivates well if I wanna restyle and it gives me great height. Alas to each their own as per always! :D

      diljo13 Does it get crunchy during the day?

    • @DuckJ13
      @DuckJ13 8 років тому

      MrCesarM XD Definitely not. The pomade stays very soft and fairly pliable. It's great for a natural look. Your hair can still move a bit and not plastic and rigid. It's a creamy pomade that never hardens or stiffens. Sometimes I get a stray superman hair that falls down my forehead, which is fine, but I can just run my hand back through my hair and it's back in place and my hand stays clean.
      Their super hold is great too and doesn't get crunchy either, but it definitely holds in place better and gets a tad stiff. It's noticeably thicker and much more of a wax. The down side of the super hold wax though is that in the heat or sun, it falls apart immediately and becomes like the pomade.

    • @mrcesarm1031

      clone 2k I used to like the super hold when my hair was shorter and needed something very strong. Now my hair is nice and long (down to the tip of my nose), and doesn't need anything crazy strong. I prefer the super shine and original now, usually the super shine.
      The super hold can get very rigid when it dries which I did not like. It was almost plastic feeling.

    • @nathanpenick959
      @nathanpenick959 7 років тому

      diljo13 I don't understand though , because everyone I know except you, have used it and has said it is very crunchy. I've used it myself and it really does harden up, not as much as a gel but it hardens much more than pomade should. It's not that good

      Slikhaar reviews waxes, not pomades

      Firstly, I like the Profile Picture. Secondly Slikhaar use hair dryer and are into more "Modern" or "Metrosexual" hairstyles where as pure pomade guys are into to comb hairstyles like Pomp, Contrures and slick backs.
