Great video, Luke. When you're putting in a secondary return on the hot water, presumably the main hot supply has to be copper as well because the water circulates around through both. I've seen two failures where the plastic pipe failed because the secondary was run in plastic, but the failure was in the hot supply pipe close to the cylinder.
@@martinwright7093 The main loop will be copper and where it branches off it will be copper but you can go down to plastic as long as it away from the primary circuit…basically on this where the water is pumped around all the time it will be copper. The hot will be one big circle going around the house
@@marknaylor6420 if we are talking secondary hot water returns, then yes a secondary return must be in copper and would be 15mm and lagged, teed from furthest tap from the cylinder.
ahhhh drilling joists, used to first fix timber frame new builds in the 90's, have spent many a cold day drilling hundreds of holes in joists, we would drill through the outside timber frame skin and poke copper through, it was all copper back then. looks like a good job, good luck wiv it.

I have one of those Dewalt 54v drills, they launched an 18v version last year but you have to order it in from the US. Or just buy the Milwaukee Hole Hawg 18v.
I let the smoke out of my core drill, plumber I was working with had the Milwaukee hole hawg, we used that to drill a couple core holes and they drilled quicker than the core drill would. Monster drill, dunno if i could justify the expense but it’s a proper drill bruv
@ I’m a chippy by trade, don’t have much call for it. Ripped a 110mm core through that 9” wall tho! Could buy a 36v mitre saw for same sort of price, that’d make its money a lot quicker
Thanks for the insight into first fixing Luke, but I still don’t understand how you keep track of what pipe is what, do you have to know which pipe is which at every radiator? I’m looking forward to the underfloor heating going in. 👍
@@alshore6168 it can hurt your head but we have tape on hot and cold pipes and when your working on it all day you start learning the routes and what’s what..suppose it helps I’ve filmed it as well

22mm pipe is radiator feed and return. Most radiators are bi-directional valves. The 2 smaller ones are hot and cold water Gas supply is always 22mm too and identified easily 👌
@@michaelbolt4530 it can get confusing, the hot is easy as that’s the copper pipe, it can get confusing but honestly when your on the site and working with the pipes you start to learn which is which. Secondary returns are notorious for popping leaks. The copper return wears paper thin.
