I love the dual time. Hour tracking, time elapsed, second time zones, adding and subtracting time, plus it's convenient to look at and see time quickly. Love those bezels so much. I use the half tick marks to quickly see the time as well, if it's behind the dot it's the second markee, if it's after the dot it's the third marker. So if it's between the 12 and the 1 I know before the dot is :02, and after the dot it's :03! Idk if anybody uses this method.
I do so appreciate your "watch and learn" videos(also like the pun!)! Gives geezers like me an understanding of how various measurements on a watch work! Please continue to make more of these videos!
Grammar police here. I think maybe you meant to say those functions are arcane rather than archaic. However they could be both since doctors usually use digital devices now.
Thank you, Marc, for another watch nerd public service! Unfortunately, think regular consumption of "watch and learn" is making my head progressively pointier. At this rate, I'm going to have to ask for a gnome hat for Christmas......
Great video. One thing, you can use a 12-hour or 24-hour Bezel as a minute timer as well. It’s not ideal, but it can be done. You have to use the minute markers on the dial and compare it to the PIP on the Bezel, so you still have the ability to time up to 60 minutes.
Very informative video Marc! I may pay more attention to timing between lightning and thunder since our home was struck by lightning back in July. We were very fortunate to not have had a fire! Half of our electrical outlets had to be replaced, but the house is still standing! Our solar power system apso had to be replaced. I am definitely paying more attention to lightning than I did in the past.
You are also able to use a “count up” bezel as a count down, just subtract the minutes you want to be underwater, or timing a steak on the grill, and set the minute hand to that number. As time elapses, it will “count down” to how much time is left.
In the last two weeks, I have watched all 74 watch and learn videos you have posted. You have got me interested in watch collecting and restoring. I’m already looking forward to your next videos. I’ve checked out and saved your store, one day I hope to get to the point where I can put $300 into one of your islanders. I know watches a worth that much but I’ve never owned anything more than a $150 citizen. Which was the most expensive I’ve ever owned. I know that is a laugh to true collectors but we all have to start somewhere lol. Thank you again for very well done videos, and you keep it interesting.
Luminox has a Bear Grylls watch with a pedometer. I would love to pick one up but they're pricy for quartz. You time how long it takes to walk a certain distance (100 feet?/30ish steps?) and the scale tells you your walking speed. Pretty neat for hiking
Marc, I would consider changing your logo on your watches to something like LIW . Sorry but I’m not a fan of the icon. That said, great video. Thanks for the information
Living in Newfoundland, half hour time zone UTC-3.5. Can't really use and enjoy all those beautiful GMT's. Can someone please make one with GMT minute hand too?
Saw your wall clock. I'm sure it's a quartz but has an automatic movement. Why can't they do that for quartz wristwatches? This is a real question for me.
Thanks for this. I spent days stubbornly trying to figure out the use for a 24h bezel, convinced I could work it out on my own because I had figured out all other common bezels. I just didn't know GMT hands are on a 24h cycle :)
Storm is 1500m away! Great watch! But then again, you don't need a watch to tell you a storm is 1500m away. You look in the sky and say "Look at those big ####ing angry grey clouds coming our way!! 😂😂😂 Seriously though, that's a very informative and excellent video, just in the mood for a joke this morning!😜
Now I can explain to people (and my wife) why I need to wear 2 watches. The telemeter to find the distance to the storm and the slide rule to change km to miles
Excellent Marc, thank you. I hadn't seen that many scales before as most of mine are Diver's! Oh, I owned a Flight Master once, but had to sell it as my eyes are too old!!
What about a bezel with no numerals on it like Breitling makes on the superocean Heritage II? Why would they do that? How can that you can consider that usable for an actual diver which of course never gets used that way but you know what I mean. What's the big deal with at least putting a few of the reference numbers.? I mean, is there something I am missing or are they sacrificing that 100% for Symmetry and look?
Excellent video, Mark! A one stop reference (I can never seem to remember the rules for compass bearings!) - about to slide into the slide rule bezel next and I know you have a whole video on that - I’ll be revisiting that one regularly when my Flighty arrives😁
I have a fossil blue. The bezel has a 30 and the opposite side 60 and on each of the sides of the, numbers, their are 13 notches or indents. How is that used.?
Just saw a scale i've never seen before on the chapter ring of a dive watch: instead of 60 seconds for a full rotation, the scale is to 100. What is the practical use for that?
LIW, Looking at getting a Citizen Skymaster-not the Blue Sky version. I notice that there is no tachymeter on the watch. I assume the slide rule is more versatile, particularly if you know the coversions you regularly use that are not on the watch.
I had a Poljot Pilot Chrono some time ago and it had a unidirectional bezel and the markings were 24 at the top and then it counted up from 13 (at the 1 o'clock position), 14 (at 2 o'clock), etc. Still don't get the point of this
Fascinating stuff, i can see me watching this a few times trying to grasp the maths lol .very educational content ,i almost felt i was back at school (not that long ago..Ahh hem😉) Nice piece sir.
any thoughts on non hackable dive watches? seems counter intuitive, but the citizen diver promaster (?) is non hackable but used by italian military? i could be way off but it seems like you should be in sync
"Yeah you got the eight, here for example, and er like on the bezel and it goes clockwise or anticlockwise, and it like moves er round here like the eight or er um you have let's say like here or here, on the watch and you have to line up here or here and like here number eight you could move the bezel around round to here, and that could be clockwise or anti-clockwise."
Really enjoyed that! And some lovely watches, that Seiko sure was pretty. And impressed by that Zeppelin, a watch I'm not very familiar with. Do you have other videos which feature them?
if you have a watch with a gmt hand set to solar noon, you can just point the gmt hand at the sun to find a pretty close representation of north-south at 6 and 12
How to use the Alpinist's bezel:
1. Align the N marker at 12.
2. Repeat every time you look at your watch.
LOL. You know it!
Then look at the actual compass you brought.
Then pull out your smartphone
Classic😂
I think a telemeter has military application, to measure the distance from artillery explosions.
I will never get tired of seeing those zeppelin 100 year series ...
They are things of beauty.
I got Zeppelin Flatline open heat with blue dial, very affordable, simple Miyota movement, but looks gorgeous for a dress watch.
I just bought the Zeppelin 8680-3. Love the vintage look of it.
@@islandwatch love your channel.
YEAH!! They ROOOOL!!
I really love this kind of videos. Thank you for the e learning session:)
My pleasure!
LOL the tachymeter analogy with the child complaints is too funny
Oh the homeschooling use for the tachymeter- my life’s hell at the moment
Lol
I love the zeppelins great looking watch.
You and me both!
One of my favorite watch videos. Thanks Mark!
You are a good teacher!
Thank you so much for this excellent explanations. It opens me a new door to use my watch. Cheers. 👍👍👍

Awesome! Informative! you missed the mechanical metronome watch from SEIKO
Fascinating video especially the less common bezels. Thanks. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it
I do so appreciate your "watch and learn" videos(also like the pun!)! Gives geezers like me an understanding of how various measurements on a watch work! Please continue to make more of these videos!
Excellent! As always. Thanks, today I learned something new.
Great, thank you.
Not a fan of the colour green , but that damasko looks great , and as always a very informative video , Thanks Mark
Thanks for watching!
"My child will complain 400 times an hour" too funny :o)
Grammar police here. I think maybe you meant to say those functions are arcane rather than archaic. However they could be both since doctors usually use digital devices now.

That was wonderfully entertaining and educational, nice one thanks.

Love the look of those Zeppelins....wish they offered a 38-39mm version of this model.
Zeppelin needs to make smaller watches, agreed.
Very informative video Marc! I may pay more attention to timing between lightning and thunder since our home was struck by lightning back in July. We were very fortunate to not have had a fire! Any moveable bezel can be used to count up or down, you just have to use a little common sense when setting it.
Thanks for the feedback.

I paid $50 for a timex from walmart and liked it more than the $25,000 big shot watch I tried on the luxury shop in Naples. lol.

I liked that Arista, Mark, but loved that Zeppelin! Great tutorial, thanks!

Awesome video! I´m happy to see the Citizen Nighthawk which i love! The other watches are more or less my wanted list ;-)
Glad you enjoyed!
Hey Marc, thanks to your videos my wife just bought me a graf zeppelin 7680-1 that I've been looking at from your site a couple of days ago.
:)
Rock on!
Saw your wall clock. I'm sure it's a quartz but has an automatic movement. Why can't they do that for quartz wristwatches? This is a real question for me.

The Seiko SND399P has a non-rotating bezel with the compass points. Is it just for looks, or is there a way to use it without another compass?
Cool vid! Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I guess you always do London as for the second time-zone because TGV rocks
Very true!
Oscar P.
Doesn’t TGV live in Philadelphia these days?
Great looking watch. Do you plan on selling the Seiko Capt. Wilard (Green with black strap)?
Hahaha! Timing the childrens' complaints for homeschooling! Well done, Marc, well done! 🍻
Hehe
I have a fossil blue. The bezel has a 30 and the opposite side 60 and on each of the sides of the, numbers, their are 13 notches or indents. How is that used.?
I have a clock that shows two times. One I set to Zulu Time (GMT), and the other to local, GMT - 7 hours. use it for ham radio
The most informative watch video I've seen in ages. Thanks a bunch!
Wow, thanks!
Just saw a scale i've never seen before on the chapter ring of a dive watch: instead of 60 seconds for a full rotation, the scale is to 100. What is the practical use for that?
Is there a bezel to time the number of UA-cam watch channel videos I can cram in to my 2 hr late night viewing?
I have used a watch as a compass once, pre gps, I didn’t know if I was going north or south and I figured it out.
Great video Marc, love the watches you included
Thanks for watching!
Having sub increments on a a watch that doesn't have a sweep hand bothers me way more than it should
Always great content for watch and learn.
I appreciate that!
Only 400 complaints an hour? Seems low.
awesome!
I would be curious to know how long you can live at 35 ppm !
mixing blendin confusin... [just do one subj at a time...]
what is the inner bezel with the 100 graduations for?
😎😎😎😎😎
:)
Thanks Marc just learned something I needed for my ISL👌👌👌👌👌💯
My gmt has a bi-directional bezel.
LIW, Looking at getting a Citizen Skymaster-not the Blue Sky version. I notice that there is no tachymeter on the watch. I assume the slide rule is more versatile, particularly if you know the coversions you regularly use that are not on the watch.
Please put links to the watches in the description.
Very cool video. Thanks.
I don't get 12h GMT watches. For me it's hard to also keep track of am/pm.
Hi, Mark. Great video again. What is the seiko model, white dial with compass?
Shout out for mentioning home schooling!
very interesting! Now I finally learned how to use the pulsometer on my Girard Perregaux that I got as a gift 10 years ago
does the aplinist come on a bracelet ?
Great video,thanks!
Very helpful. Thanks
I had a Poljot Pilot Chrono some time ago and it had a unidirectional bezel and the markings were 24 at the top and then it counted up from 13 (at the 1 o'clock position), 14 (at 2 o'clock), etc.

military time?
Fascinating stuff, i can see me watching this a few times trying to grasp the maths lol .very educational content ,i almost felt i was back at school (not that long ago..Ahh hem😉) Nice piece sir.
Got my snzh57 yesterday from LIW. I love it and now I'll be timing everything since I just learned how to use the bezel. Great video.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Mark you have any after market bezel and bezel insert for kamasu?
Not yet.
Is the islander duel time bezel bi-directional?
Nope
Great teaching methods and examples!
Very informative, Mark. Several things I didn't know. Many thanks!
Glad to hear it!
any thoughts on non hackable dive watches? seems counter intuitive, but the citizen diver promaster (?) is non hackable but used by italian military? i could be way off but it seems like you should be in sync
SKX007 is non-hackable, arguably one of the best selling affordables. Personally, doesn't bother me.
"400 complaints per hr..." Hilarious!
I wish there was a competent, and honest watch repairman within an hour from me...
Yo Adrian you guys ship to Canada or what bud?
Yup
Really enjoyed that! And some lovely watches, that Seiko sure was pretty. And impressed by that Zeppelin, a watch I'm not very familiar with. Do you have other videos which feature them?
Sure do. Just search up the channel.
Awesome, I’m going to order one of those Aristo pulsometers for my mother in law!
Thank you for video, i knew how to use all bezels, but watches are gorgeus :) btw: you can use divers bezel as compas bezel too.
Thanks for the tip!
Great video
Well done!
What a great educational video. Thank you.
Thanks Marc. Great video. Just pulled the trigger on an Islander 19 -- and can't wait to try the bezel.
Thank you!
That was both fun and informative. I like the doctors watch. Unique indeed.
Thanks

Sehr gut erklärt 👍
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Eco, echo. Different.
Fank u
Thanks for the videos! Always cool to learn new things especially these days. keep up the great work!
Thank you
very interesting...now we just need a bezel that works out how may hoodies you own
More than 5.
Very helpful. Thank you.
6 minutes on a London Broil on grill? Natural chunk charcoal. No grill grate, put it right on the coals mid rare about 4 minutes with an amazing sear.
LOL. Just saw Alton Brown do that too.
Long Island Watch learned from the best.
