As a Stafford regular thank you so much for posting this! Each of these records is a great memory for me! Along with" Nottingham odd fellows club" the Leicester all nighter , Stafford all nighter changed my life!! Everything was so unique with the"Top of the world", like the fact it was on every two weeks as opposed to every other Venue that was on monthly. The turn over of new records being broke ( but not in the litrel scence) was astonishing!! And that's why it needed to be on every fortnight! I remember so many of us thinking, how come so many songs from 20years ago or more are only just being discovered? Well that was 37 years ago now when we thought that! and those feelings of amazement for those tunes is as strong now as ever! And I'm sure i speak for everyone else who was a true regular to that Life changing venue... I remember the night when Eddie Holman was there and the place was packed, Dave thorley said over the Mike.. Where have you lot come from!.. because sometimes there was only about 50 people there! Attendences could veiry quite a lot, but I'd have loved it even if i was the only one there!! I was actually on the chasing rainbows documentry shown on channel 4, back in the day's when you only had 4 channels on the telly! That was filmed on that night Eddie Holman was there, I'm even on the utube video at the end, on the dancefloor to Benny Troy's " i wanna give you tomorrow" it was a clip from the channel 4 documentry, the video is combined with another well known clip from a Wigan documentry shown back in the 70s. Wonderful memories.i could write a book! Some of you might say,i just have! 🎶🎶🛵

Accidentally got into the Northern soul scene at school. Was to young for Wigan. My first all nighters where TOTW.The music tho was so different to the Casino Classics type manic soul sounds I had first listened to as a kid. Some of the Latin influenced stuff just blew me away. The Soul scene apparently went through a dark age in the 80's/90's..not for me...loved it✊🏿✊ Ktf

Wasn't really a lie...we all knew they were cover up names. It was to keep the exclusivity of the tune to the DJ. By not knowing the real artist it was harder for other DJ's and collectors to find another copy. Back in the day I would travel 100's of miles to hear a particular DJ because it was the only way I could hear a particular covered up rare record that I loved. Hard to imagine in these days of the internet when pretty much every tune is just a click away from computer keyboard!

You've hit the nail on the head my friend! no internet or utube back in the early to mid 80s, that's when I was a regular at Stafford. Back then you had to go upstairs until the big room opened at 2am..every two weeks, didn't miss one nighter from 1984 till the last one in 1986. I can even tell you the last record ever played there.. Edward Hamilton.." Baby don't you weep" .. well I certainly had a lump in my throat walking out of that venue for the last time! Stafford along with the Leicester all nighter at "the Nottingham odd fellows club" changed my life!! Gave me the best times of my Life!! The turn over of Newly discovered 60s records dug out of obscure Detroit recording studios Vaults was astronomical!! The rare soul scene was born with a new title of 60s newies, played by the 60s mafia, it was a scene within a scene! ..Me and 6 of my mates traveling to the likes of morcombe pier in a little red mini 1,000, to attend the monthly all nighter, my main insensitive to go was to listen to hear my favourite Stafford tune at the time, played by Keb darge, who covered it up as Frank Cole and the diamonds.. "I wanted to tell you".. uncovered.. little Nicky soul..on shee record label. 100mph unknown obscure 60s garage soul, totally new to the soul scene,i remember just me and about 5 others hitting the dancefloor to this when Keb 1st played it. Always remember his wonderful saying before playing a record for the 1st time.. " this is gonna be f ***ING massive! ..37 years later.. how right you were keb!!

miss the old TOTW as you can tell. Never been a venue since with the great music policy Mr Thorley had.

Great collection. Why did DJ's lie to fans about the origins of some of these records?ie:Bobby Paris does not sing "Someday" it's the Tempests from NC.Just wondering.

Nice work. Great tracks! Where do you get those nice stiff sleeves? I'm probably wrecking my company sleeves by using them.
