- This filter is the YPF-2500 and does not come with a pump so you will need to pick one up based on your pond size. I use a 500GPH pump.

Here are a couple of filters to look at.

Sponge filters are good. I used sponge filters in my aquariums. Cool those canisters have a cleaning system. That keeps your good bio in the water. Cleaning sponges with tap water will kill your good bio. I always treated my cleaning water for my canisters because i didn't have a cleaning device on my canisters. I like your type of canisters better. Especially with the uv light. Great way to keep your water from getting green algae in it. Love your pond. I would love to have koi. Great job explaining this system Dave.
Thanks! And I get to run the filter goop into the flowerbeds to keep them happy. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there.
Nice sharing

Good info, can you tell me the minimum gph pump I need for the cpf series 2500
I've seen the max listed as 1840gph. I think that a bit high based on the low wattage of the UV bulb.
The pump I'm using is 500gph. I don't think I would go any higher. In my opinion I think a 250gph should be fine.

Hi David! Thank you for the video, it was a big help. The instructions were a bit confusing. I do have a question if you don’t mind, one reason I bought this particular filter (same one you have) is because I was under the impression it could be left out (sun and rain) however, the instructions indicate otherwise. They say the unit cannot get wet or be left out in sun. Could you clarify this for me please? My mom just bought a house with a koi pond and neither of us know anything about them at all. Crash course. I did buy a new filter as the existing one was not very efficient and quite crude, so this is where I’m beginning with maintenance.
@@PolskaBabii thanks for checking out the video. Mine stays outside all summer in the open and I haven't had any problems so far.
I do bring it in during the winter because we sometimes get down to -20f and I don't want it to freeze.
Oh wow!! You’re definitely farther North than I am!! We get down to 40* on a cold night 😂 so…I shouldn’t have any issues with rain then? Thank you so much for your response and the time and effort you put into this channel! Very helpful!!!
Great info and can’t wait to see you use two filters!
I have more supplies ordered so that should happen fairly soon.
Hello, I really appreciated your video. I have a question for you, the operating indicator for the UV lamp on the top of the unit is constantly red instead of bluish like your video. Is my UV module defective? .I haven't found anything on the internet about this. I purchased the CPF2500 model from Amazon on June 9, 2024.
THANKS.
I think maybe you are looking at the window in the middle of the blue valve. The UV window is flat and right between the blue valve and where it says patent.
It's very difficult to see in daylight.
@@norbertboucher I'm not sure why yours is a different color. Both of mine have a blue tint. They are very hard to see so maybe they added some sort of filter or maybe they actually added a power light to the newer models.
@@DaviddoesStuff I replaced the UV lamp and everything came back to normal.Merci
@norbertboucher thanks for the feedback on that. Have a great day and be safe out there!
Is there a pump inside the filter? Or do you need to purchase a separate pump and connect it to the inflows of the filter?
Mine came as a kit and it uses an external pump connected with a hose. They do sell just the filter if you already have a pump.
Great video ordering once find how big of pump for a 12' x 8' 4' deep pond and do you run the pump 24x7. Thanks
Thanks, I run a 500GPH. Hat seems about the correct flow rate for the UV bulb to be effective.
I run mine 24/7 but I do shut it down and bring it in in the winter. We get some sub-zero temps here.

Well after four days it was clear works great works great! I see that I got too big a pump but this is what happened. My wife text me and said electricity's off and I said unplug the filter and then later on she text me. She plugged the filter back in and I guess he plugged in the light first. So are all those g23s are the same length like 7 and 1/2 in? Or do you know where I can buy one? Because everybody mentions a different pond filter than the one we got the vivo home one thanks again. Craig
@MsBruisers I haven't had to change a bulb yet. It should be listed in the manual. I'm two states away from home so I can't check mine but it looks like this bulb is compatible with most of these style filters.
amzn.to/3WDEzbC
@@DaviddoesStuff I Hope it's the bulb. my wife plugged the bulb in before she turned the pump on but it's really strange When I went to buy one off Amazon it says not allowed in California so I end up buying two they come here Sunday so I hope that's it cuz I don't know what else it could be.
If I remember you saying about the flow for the light to work I'm going to buy a smaller pump and you can adjust the gph being I wasn't paying attention again and bought a 1600 gallons per hour but it seemed to work. Thanks again for your help. We hadn't used the pond since 2005 when we moved My son here the raccoons ate all the fish and we never replaced them until our great-granddaughter who is here cleaned it and she just loved buying fish.
I hope to get fish in my pond one of these days , thanks for the info
The fish are a little bit more work than just a Pond but they are fun.
Well I got another filter and a smaller pump for a water fall and a transfer pump to clean the sides of the pond the water is clear but have green stuff growing anyhow learning. 😊
The algae can get out of hand. If you can add plants it helps. I'm planning to add a bog in the next year or two.
The plants in the bog absorb the nutrients and less in the water for the algae. If you can add some mini cattails it will help.
Right now my lily pads cover half the surface of my pond.
@@DaviddoesStuff I bought a pool cleaning kit to suck the algae off the sides but it was dark. I was putting the net over the pond that's open because of the raccoons and I stepped on the bulb. That's why I got a transfer pump hooking it up to the attachment It has little rollers on the bottom and a brush and I was going to run it through the new filter.
Sorry, I just saw this. Those raccoons can definitely be a problem. Given a chance to grow, Koi eventually get big enough they are a lot safer from becoming lunch.
It will depend on the type of algae. The string algae will probably get caught up in the rollers. If it's just the stuff on the surface it might work pretty well.
I use a tiny garden rake. It has a long handle but the rake is only a few inches wide. It's plastic so it doesn't harm my liner. I put it at the base of the string algae and twist it a bit and it pulls right out.
might be a dumb question but how do you connect new tubing to the inlet/outlet? I just bought this pond and the tube from my pump is too big, also need to add a tube to the waste outlet.
Hi Andrew, mine came with a handful of adapters for different size hoses. I ended up buying some 1" flex hose because it was pretty easy to work with. I use it on the inlet and both outlets. Here's the one I'm using. amzn.to/46mDqbB
I hope that helps.
Great video! I have a small 200 gallon pond with a few small fish in it. Do you think this filter would work for it?
Thanks! Actually I do. I've been really happy with it. At 200 gallons it shouldn't have any problems keeping up. If I can find time this spring I plan to build some kind of bio-filter to add to this.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day and be safe out there.
did you ever do an update on your twin pressure filters..........?
i can't find it.
No sorry I haven't. I got really busy this year and since I lost all my fish I didn't have a need for the extra filtration. It is still planned but it will most likely be spring of 2025.
I will probably build either an insulated bench seat or box so I can leave them running all winter.
I feel very silly, but I have one of these and it doesn't seem to turn on? I feel like I'm missing a step perhaps. Have it all set up and plugged it in, but nothing happens. Any suggestions?
Did you get a pump also or just the filter? The cord on the filter just powers the UV bulb.
Is it o k to plumb the filter with p v c Instead of hose
I would say so but try to keep the number of 90° turns as low as possible.
Very informative
Thank you and thanks for stopping by.
What pump are you using?
I bought mine as a kit but I think it's a 500 gph pump.
@@DaviddoesStuff I bought one of these filters and got it installed the other day. I purchased my pump a while back and it is supposed to be 500gph. But I do not feel like it is actually moving as much water as it says it should. Hopefully this filter helps with the pea soup koi pond I have.
Our light died after 2 hours. So where can I get a replacement
@@aefanning that's pretty quick. I'm out of state but when I get home I'll check. Mine has a 13 watt bulb but there are a couple of different bases. You can unplug everything and pull the bulb out. It will have a number on it and you can search that number on Amazon.
I'm not sure why yours went out so fast but don't run the light if the water pump isn't running.
What the name of this product and where did you get it from?
I picked it up from Amazon. amzn.to/3TfF3Sn
Sorry but these filters are the worst thing for a pond and fish. They have terrible bio and not that good at filtering water. They are hard to clean and harbour pathogens and muck at the bottom. Best to recommend a professional filter like an easypod . They aren’t that much more in price. Easy to clean and have great bio and filtration . 👍
@@Cyberbobxxxx thanks for the input. These are the easiest filter to clean I've ever tried. Have a great day and be safe out there!
You must be a Democrat because you say it's not that much more in price and your clearly delusional 😂😂😂❤😂😂😂😂
If you had some little fish is ok but you want nice koi pond healthy fish this pieces of trash
