This pup is the son of amatarasu, and otohime also had a child during this sequel. and wolves and humans both have extremely similar pregnancy times. so that means, to give birth to chibi nearly the same time as otohime, that means that amatarasu was carrying a pup while fighting Ninetails, a bandit spider, orochi in the past, lechu and nechcu, and Yami. Yeah, Quite an amazing feat. well I guess she's freaking god but, still.

I can't believe this Let's Play is over half a decade old now. I remember just yesterday when I got home from visiting Texas and saw your video in my subscriptions in 2012. The main reason why I've returned was not only to celebrate the 5 year anniversary but to also thank you for introducing me to this game. Okamiden had dogs, dragons, painting, mermaids so many other cool stuff that would inspire me to pursue art as my career of choice. I never realized how influencial this Let's Play was to me until now. Thank you so much, Chuggaaconroy.
This is 7 years old but here’s a correction for no reason! The period Okami and Okamiden are actually able to be narrowed down into a specific part of Japanese history. In the West, money is called Yen. However over in Japan, Yen is instead called Ryo in Okami and Okamiden. Ryo is the currency from the Kamakura Period which lasted from 1185-1333.
This game... I was introduced fully to UA-cam towards the beginning of this game. I had been watching chuggaaconroy before, but I really began to understand fully what a channel was around this time. After I discovered this channel, I went back, watched all his other let’s plays, continued watching him, as well as playing the games he played. Thanks to this man, I’ve played some of the best games I’ve ever known, and his personality truly drew me in. Chuggaaconroy helped set the standard for UA-cam let’s plays, and it’s truly been amazing to watch him grow over the years. All I have to say is, thank you Emile, for both inspiring my love for video games, as well as continuing to provide us with quality content. Considering how Ammy tends to summon things by drawing them, it's very possible that she created Chibi by herself by just drawing a picture of a puppy.

I think it falls under level 2 canon meaning anything in this game can be taken as canon unless okami directly counters something in this game in which case what ever okami says is right is canon
It's understandable that opinions change over time, it's all part of being human. What matters is we still have the let's play, a moment in time were we were all younger and excited to see something that, while not a true canon sequel, was still supposed to be a spiritual successor. In the end to me that's what ultimately matters

In the original myth the character is based on, she had a dog husband, and between them birthed several dog-human hybrid offspring. This myth is in turn based on the origin myth of the Yun people in China. The current modern Yun people still celebrate their descent from the Dog King. So, it's more 'normal', as in linked up to real-life myths and folklore, if it was Ammy + Waka.
Yeah I agree it does feel more normal and less gross, after all they're both animals and who in their right mind ship an animal (God/Goddess or not) with a human?. And yes, I'm aware they could have a human form but still I'm not going to ship her with Waka.

In most myths the gods can create children by themselves, a example is how Hera from greek myth had Hepthues by herself. So ammy should be able to have a child by herself which is basically a recarnation of herself.
The whole implication that Waka is Chibi's dad... I always assumed Ammy and Chibi could take human form if they wished, so that reduces squick factor for me

The translators don't translate a game by playing it, they're usually just given a script, so it's not their fault they didn't have any context for it. Also the story of Red Beard isn't unknown outside of Japan, what with so many Western Kurosawa fans, so they probably just figured he was a reference to that. (Which he is... but he's also kinda a pun, which is really hard to translate, and where the confusion came from. :P)
I must disagree with you, Chuggaa! Ammy did not mate with Waka or any other blonde male. I believe that Chibiterasu is more of a reincarnation or rebirth of Amaterasu herself. Chibi is like the reverse version of Shiranui. Kinda like a pheonix like in Harry Potter: she never really dies, but she needs to renew her corporal body every so often. At the end of the original game, she had done so much fighting on the mortal world that she returned to the Celestial Plains to renew herself. Maybe the reason Chibi appears as a puppy is because Ammy saw the danger coming and so left the Celestial Plains before she was supposed to, before she had fully returned to the adult form in her cycle, before she had all her powers back. This would also explain why techniques that were originally obtained in Okami, such as Power Slash, would be missing from Chibi's arsenal save the Sunrise power, which is part of Ammy herself. Theoretically, the brush god for Sunrise should be Ammy. So, no one else should be able to use that power. Besides, there is absolutely no reason for a diety to have children with a (well, mostly) mortal man. Why would a goddess of the sun suddenly fall prey to mortal desires? Just sayin'... And there was never any kind of sexual tension between Waka and Ammy, anyways. Only a strange kind of friendship. I 100% reject the AmmyxWaka ship!
+Technailius KoT "Spit and image" and "spitting image" are actually both correct. The former was the original form of the saying, sure, but the latter is still correct, and is a lot more commonly used nowadays than "spit and image".
Was I the only one that felt this game is just a crapyer uglyer soulless version of Okami, with far worse writing, sapping all personality from Issun? I understand that it's a DS game, so of course it isn't going to look as good, but graphics aside. It just seems like they wanted to make more money from a game everybody loved, so they made a cheaper, portable version, and put no effort what so ever in small yet glaring things, such as, your walk cycle, your attacking animation, the weapon's idle animation or lack there of, level design, having three or four loading areas in the tiny little beginning town, the perfectly friendly regardless of the character, boring and extremely "this is what we have to do to progress further in the game, let's go do that" god awful writing. Sorry if it seems like I'm attacking this game for no reason, but I just wanted to get my opinion out so that if anyone else agrees, and sees my comment, then maybe I won't feel so alone when I see all of these glaring flaws. Clearly Emile didn't see anything wrong with it, but I'm hoping that someone else will feel the same way as I did, or at least similar. P.S. Just so there's no misunderstanding. I loved Emile's Okami let's play, and i'm considering getting the game my self, but from this one episode, I get an odd feeling of... how should I put it, "MONEY MONEY MONEY, we need to make a pointless sequel to this so that we can make more MONEYYYY!!!" I get that sort of feeling from the company who made this.
Yeah... I was really disappointed with Okamiden. The original was so much better in every aspect... The touch screen may translate the drawing controls fairly well, but there's still some difficulty in the DS's recognition capabilities. The loading screens are horrendous. The plot is just... ugh. I mean, I didn't like Issun in the original, but I understood his importance and depth as a character. Here, all the other characters you meet, new and old, just seem stereotypical and lifeless... I've never actually completed Okamiden to this day because I get frustrated and bored with it so quickly. Maybe if they remade it for the 3DS or the WiiU some of its issues could be fixed, but... not all of them. And that's a really depressing thought... :(

Coming back to this Comment chain , i would also like to add the fact that Okami is a game with open world exploring , and the art direction looks beautiful in HD . I think Okami is the type of game that should be on Consoles , not portables . At least not the DS . I think Okamiden would be much better in a console , since there would be better graphics , more animations and less loading times .
Eduardo de Araújo Yeah putting this game on DS probably would have killed it even if it was made for a passion and not just money. Adventure games definitely work best on consoles, unless it's 2D like "Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow/Aria of Sorrow"; the portable is super powerful like the 3DS, or it's top-down view like "TLoZ: Link Between Worlds".
It is, in fact, spelt Ookami, alternatively Okami with a line above the O (which denotes an elongated syllable). It means wolf and is usually written Okami over here as to not confuse us foreigners, so stop calling people idiots when it is you who are wrong in the first place.

So, it's more 'normal', as in linked up to real-life myths and folklore, if it was Ammy + Waka.
Yeah I agree it does feel more normal and less gross, after all they're both animals and who in their right mind ship an animal (God/Goddess or not) with a human?. And yes, I'm aware they could have a human form but still I'm not going to ship her with Waka.

I like Ammy x Oki too and I also believe he's Chibi's father.
Waka is just Ammy's owner and friend after her father Shiranui died.
In most myths the gods can create children by themselves, a example is how Hera from greek myth had Hepthues by herself. So ammy should be able to have a child by herself which is basically a recarnation of herself.

I probably shouldn't say this when my most popular video only has 100 views, but I felt this LP was a bit underrated. Like the game itself. Still good for what is probably the least popular game on the channel (yes, more than the Mother games).

The translators don't translate a game by playing it, they're usually just given a script, so it's not their fault they didn't have any context for it. Also the story of Red Beard isn't unknown outside of Japan, what with so many Western Kurosawa fans, so they probably just figured he was a reference to that. (Which he is... but he's also kinda a pun, which is really hard to translate, and where the confusion came from. :P)
I must disagree with you, Chuggaa! Ammy did not mate with Waka or any other blonde male. I believe that Chibiterasu is more of a reincarnation or rebirth of Amaterasu herself. Chibi is like the reverse version of Shiranui. Kinda like a pheonix like in Harry Potter: she never really dies, but she needs to renew her corporal body every so often. At the end of the original game, she had done so much fighting on the mortal world that she returned to the Celestial Plains to renew herself.
Maybe the reason Chibi appears as a puppy is because Ammy saw the danger coming and so left the Celestial Plains before she was supposed to, before she had fully returned to the adult form in her cycle, before she had all her powers back. This would also explain why techniques that were originally obtained in Okami, such as Power Slash, would be missing from Chibi's arsenal save the Sunrise power, which is part of Ammy herself. Theoretically, the brush god for Sunrise should be Ammy. So, no one else should be able to use that power.
Besides, there is absolutely no reason for a diety to have children with a (well, mostly) mortal man. Why would a goddess of the sun suddenly fall prey to mortal desires? Just sayin'... And there was never any kind of sexual tension between Waka and Ammy, anyways. Only a strange kind of friendship. I 100% reject the AmmyxWaka ship!

Over 3 years, I've come back to this video over and over again, for this one line.
Was I the only one that felt this game is just a crapyer uglyer soulless version of Okami, with far worse writing, sapping all personality from Issun?
I understand that it's a DS game, so of course it isn't going to look as good, but graphics aside.
It just seems like they wanted to make more money from a game everybody loved, so they made a cheaper, portable version, and put no effort what so ever in small yet glaring things, such as, your walk cycle, your attacking animation, the weapon's idle animation or lack there of, level design, having three or four loading areas in the tiny little beginning town, the perfectly friendly regardless of the character, boring and extremely "this is what we have to do to progress further in the game, let's go do that" god awful writing.
Sorry if it seems like I'm attacking this game for no reason, but I just wanted to get my opinion out so that if anyone else agrees, and sees my comment, then maybe I won't feel so alone when I see all of these glaring flaws. Clearly Emile didn't see anything wrong with it, but I'm hoping that someone else will feel the same way as I did, or at least similar.
P.S. Just so there's no misunderstanding. I loved Emile's Okami let's play, and i'm considering getting the game my self, but from this one episode, I get an odd feeling of... how should I put it, "MONEY MONEY MONEY, we need to make a pointless sequel to this so that we can make more MONEYYYY!!!" I get that sort of feeling from the company who made this.
Yeah... I was really disappointed with Okamiden. The original was so much better in every aspect... The touch screen may translate the drawing controls fairly well, but there's still some difficulty in the DS's recognition capabilities. The loading screens are horrendous. The plot is just... ugh. I mean, I didn't like Issun in the original, but I understood his importance and depth as a character. Here, all the other characters you meet, new and old, just seem stereotypical and lifeless... I've never actually completed Okamiden to this day because I get frustrated and bored with it so quickly. Maybe if they remade it for the 3DS or the WiiU some of its issues could be fixed, but... not all of them. And that's a really depressing thought... :(
+SirHickory I don't think this game is bad but the original Okami was definitely better . In fact , Hideki Kamiya wasn't even involved . So saying -Crapcum- Capcom made it just for money is not too far-fetched . But it still good .
Coming back to this Comment chain , i would also like to add the fact that Okami is a game with open world exploring , and the art direction looks beautiful in HD . I think Okami is the type of game that should be on Consoles , not portables . At least not the DS . I think Okamiden would be much better in a console , since there would be better graphics , more animations and less loading times .

Adventure games definitely work best on consoles, unless it's 2D like "Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow/Aria of Sorrow"; the portable is super powerful like the 3DS, or it's top-down view like "TLoZ: Link Between Worlds".

Wow! This is some great gameplay, and you explain things really well! I couldn't be more satisfied with how the series turned out.
It is, in fact, spelt Ookami, alternatively Okami with a line above the O (which denotes an elongated syllable). It means wolf and is usually written Okami over here as to not confuse us foreigners, so stop calling people idiots when it is you who are wrong in the first place.
