My neck of the woods!! FYI there’s more fire towers, bunkers & Quonset huts all over the south shore of Massachusetts. A great place to get the most bang for your buck & see several, is in ? State park (the name escapes me!) in norwell/hingham. Off nantasket beach is a fire tower & bunkers, worlds end in hingham has a fire tower & in Randolph, where I live, are the ruins of a Nike missile base. But my husband has seen rattlesnakes up there so I’m not goin! Love what you do! Thank you
I have spent many days on that beach. Great spot! There is actually an underground room by the 2 towers, but its not easy to find unless you know where to look.
Gooseberry is a great place for winter birding. One of the few local places to view harlequin ducks and even Snowy Owls, sometimes. In summer, a great place for kite boarding, windsurfing, beach cats, etc. There is another tower further down the bay at West Island state reservation, which is in the town of Fairhaven. In New Bedford, where I live, guns were mounted at fort Taber/Rodman just down the street from me. It’s now a city park and part of the bike path system in New Bedford.
Wonderful video, Chris! Hope you didn't end up with a cold from that rogue wave wetting! So many relics of WWII line the East Coast. Thanks for pointing these out for us.
There are 11 old WW2 fire towers along the beaches in DE. One is open to the public in Cape Henlopen. Pretty cool to be over 60 years old & still standing.
Where you parked, in the summer months and that island lot gets full, people park there and get ticketed. It's crazy! Can't enjoy anything anymore. Nice to see the old towers again. Never realized they had a house built around it. That's cool. They're crack towers now. Or were
Great video, I grew up there in the summers in the 80s, the towers used to not have so much graffiti. We used to go up into them, the tall one had a rope hanging down from the inside, so it was possible to go up high in them, although risky lol.
