Dr Des is such a caring tender doctor. Some doctors act like taking the time to be human is beneath them. But Dr. Des acts like he is just being natural and. Humane. Nice to see.
Those screams from Jade at 17:35 had my heart breaking for her and her mum. It's not easy going through that, nor is it easy to watch your child go through that.
It's so, so tough to see a child in distress like that. But man, she was lucky, really, that could have been so much worse. Fantastic to see she made a full and relatively speedy recovery.
Right? She had life threatening injuries for sure! 12 days in the hospital probably felt like a lifetime. I was in for 14 days once, and my mom was in for 8 recently. We both felt like it was an eternity!
Des is a phenomenal doctor!! He is completely right about the parents of an ill child. Keep them honestly in the loop, let them comfort their child. I bet he is also a great doctor to work with.
I'm just amazed how the medical staff offers the patients pain medicine. In the US, we get treated like drug addicts if we ask for anything. And they certainly don't offer it!
I’ve never had problems getting pain meds in the US hospitals I’ve been to. When I broke my ankle, broke my shoulder, had large complete tear in my rotator cuff, broken foot, and had an obstructed bile duct they asked me if I needed something for pain. Guess you’ve been to the wrong hospitals.
Bedside manners with doctors and nurses makes such a difference for stress levels in hospitals! I was in hospital for a week after surgery a couple of years ago and I had to ask for a particular kind of specialist. As soon as they came along I asked them if they knew my doctor. It turns out they went to Uni together. I asked if he had the same sense of humour as my doctor and he told me jokes from when they were younger. I said, "Alright. You're ok. I will let you be my doctor today." He had me laughing when I was in a lot of pain and distressed. He also prescribed treatment that made me feel better.
Dr. Des is great! I’m in the U.S. and I literally waited for seven hours to be seen June of 2021. ( pancreatitis and possible PE)Sometimes I wonder about our healthcare system.
Girl! I had pancreatitis and was placed in ER stockroom on a gurney for around 12 hours. They forgot about me lol! all that I could figure out. Oh but did I mention they gave me one pill for pain during triage. One. I was bent over in pain plus I had been vomiting out in the waiting room. I don't remember if they gave me something for the nausea or not. So there I lay in the stockroom lights off, door open and having to take my own prescription pain meds from my purse and my husband kept reminding them I had not been seen by a doctor yet. Oh lawrdy! Not a fun 12 hours. And this was the same hospital I worked at,hello? I had BCBS insurance at the time so if I left AMA the insurance covered nothing. So I was stuck. My poor husband spent all those hours sitting in a plastic chair. In the end I don't know which of us felt the worst. And I'm sure sympathetic for you. Pancreatitis hurts and I'm so very thankful you didn't have a PE.
The American health care system is broken. For a super power, it is kind of sad. You can’t really say there is universal health care in America. Just for the rich. I’m an American but I live in Japan. We have a wonderful health care system here.

Not gonna lie, I thought Jade wouldn’t make it because the way her mom spoke about her only in past terms, so I got really relieved when I heard her voice
I feel for Jade. I was hit by a pickup truck in the 80’s when I was 8 years old but I was lucky to have very minor injuries and didn’t need to be admitted. Jade is fortunate that she wasn’t killed by the car and the bus. A bigger adult probably wouldn’t have survived because there wouldn’t be as much space under these vehicles. Her poor mother is blaming herself when it’s not her fault and her child would never think it was either.

Funny story - I swallowed an actual nail over an inch long when I was one and somehow indicated it to my parents. I have no recollection but my parents swear to it. The doctors were close to doing an exploratory surgery to try to recover it, but as I wasn't showing any discomfort they decided to give it a little time to pass, and miraculously it did. I still have the nail 😁
same for me but with an earing because I had a weird dream were my father was putting jewels or necklace or earings in his mouths ( or was it a dream i'll never know lol )
When I was a girl I noticed that my cat had a piece of thread in his mouth, so I pulled it . . . and pulled it . . . and pulled it . . . and at the end there was a needle. Somehow he'd managed to swallow it and I managed to extract it without any injury. Seriously weird. He lived to a ripe old age.
I don't know that little girl that got ran over, but she looked so miserable that I just wanted to switch places with her to take all the pain away... Poor little thing...
The doctor was fantastic as were most of the staff. The one nurse who said no and walked away seemed to be too 45:49 judgmental to be a true carer. Sad, but there is at least one in every medical setting. But kudos to the staff generally. I love how a cuppa seems to make the world right.
That nurse who briefly answered the question to the man on parole was apathetic and dismissive. While he may well have been a pain and annoying, in the context we were shown, she was a cow.
100% agree she didn’t even listen to him just said no. He could’ve easily lost circulation that way. The other nurse immediately tried to find a way to get it for because of course ankle monitors can be cut off for medical reasons. Nurses are not suppose to judge
I feel for the guy with the broken ankle. Because of his history of drug addiction, he probably has a much higher tolerance for pain killers than most people. And the doctors likely can’t give him stronger drugs than the laughing gas (and his usual methadone) to prevent any relapse of the drug dependence. Hope he’s doing well wherever he is now.
I think a lot of them smoke and since they love to drink tea also, their teeth tends to be stained. Not sure how their dental care is over there. I know dental care where I am in NYC is $$$ too!
Your welcome I've been through all that at your age to you gotta show the Doctors there wrong and prove to your self you can do it run dance in the wind .Never give up 💪
That nurse who wouldn't cut off the ankle monitor was a piece of work. It will have to come off to treat the injury and the guy clearly isn't in any shape to do a runner, just cut it off! I truly do wonder why some people go into medicine when they couldn't care less about their patients.
@TinyScorpion44 it is called the hospital can't cut it off without the permission of his parole officer. You do realize that if they did cut it off without permission first he would be spent back to prison right because that would be considering tampering with it.
