Great video. They have just changed the 50k route though. Now the start goes straight up the Llanberis Path and reverses the 2022 route. Snowdon south ridge has also been added and the Llwedd scramble removed.
Great video Gary - as always... and hope to see plenty more runs in the new year as Spring approaches - might see you up Snowdon in July.... although I'm training around leg surgery (no start date yet hope its after August)
Have a great weekend , the 50km shows you some of the best trails without getting too technical at all so I’m sure you will enjoy it. Take it easy in the first 5km 👌🏼👌🏼
I did this exact route yesterday (7th June) as a recce for the race. I completely agree about the shoe choice, I used VJ Sports XTRM and was half thinking I'd prefer my VJ Ultras but there's no way I'd be able to hit the grassy decents as confidently as I could in the XTRM's. I've gotta say the last section through the forest after the Llanebris path was pretty hard to follow, and the gpx was pretty off, but I'm sure it'll be easier to follow on the day with markers etc. Will look out for the video of the other little loop off Snowdon and back up.
Oh nice 👍🏼 - yeah I know that bit is tricky but you’re right it will be well marked at that point. I’m there early next week so will get it done ASAP.. have a great race 🤟🏻
Gary this is a great video thanks so much for taking the time to put it online. I’m doing it this year and was wondering if you would recommend running poles. I haven’t used them before but would value your advice. Many thanks 👍🏻
This is actually last years route so plenty is the same but in reverse now - I’m actually going out on Friday to run it again and update 👌🏼 I think you have time to get used to them enough for them to be a benefit … check out Harrier for affordable ones but start using them quick. I have a beginners guide on here too 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Hey Gary, thanks for making this video - it provided me with a really healthy perspective of both how possible it is to do and how cautious to be with overdoing it/nutrition. I'm signed up for the TEC Spring Crossing Snowdon marathon in March and wondered what your advice would be around when to start pushing for more hilly training and/or whether hiking alongside regular run training would be beneficial enough. Just trying to find the balance of not burning out each week!
Basic rule would be if you plan or have to hike in your race then add that in to your training once a week maybe with full race kit. Focus on getting comfortable on the downhills more than anything 👍🏼
Hi Gary, some great footage of the 2022 route here. Am signed up for the 50 (55!)K 2023. Any plans to do a recce video for that? It looks quite different to 2022 is it? Cheers, Karl
Appreciate that mate as it was thrown together quite last minute for some of the runners I coach really (and my own enjoyment) it’s 100% on the list … in fact if there is OK weather in the next two weeks I plan to do it then and yes , all courses different 👍🏼
@@GaryHouseCoaching cheers mate that would be awesome. Planning on some course recces in early 2023 but would be great to get a preview of the route to get a feel for it. Based in Co Wicklow Ireland so we’ve a nice playground to train in. Not quite as rugged as Snowdonia though. Cheers, Karl
@@kbourne1386 pretty sure it's the same route minus the technical y llywedd as a few people complained last year that it was too technical. It's a great route, you'll have a blast.
Thanks for this. It makes me question my choice of shoes. I ran Scafell Skyrace in my inov8 Trail fly ultra g 330’s. Big mistake. I had no grip on the grassy downhills at all. Only on gravel like trails. My other shoe option I have are my X-talon g 235’s. The trails I saw makes me think that it’s more suitable for the trailfly’s. What do you think?
Yes now I have finished my racing for the summer I will be putting more effort in to the channel and I enjoy the recce style vids - UTS distances will def be covered as I’m coaching people through it. Thanks
I was going to ask what the shoe of choice was but noticed you had the X-TALON ULTRA 260 V2 on. The trail seemed quite dry, were the shoes not too harsh for the ground? Would the TerraUltra be suffice? Or the VJ Ultra? Cheers
Yeah either of those would work mate, if it’s wet then I would prefer a bit more grip for the long grassy descents but if you’re not hammering it down then you would be fine 👌🏼
@@GaryHouseCoaching yep, totally get where you're coming from if the ground was wet. The X-Talon would definitely provide more grip particularly on the grassy trail parts. I only asked as I plan to use the TerraUltra for dry, and X-Talon for wet conditions. I think they complement each other well if you just want to have 2 shoes to rotate for year-round use. Looking forward to the next installment (I won't make this year's event but it's on my list for 2023). Keep the videos coming and best of luck with your own upcoming races 👍

Yea mate all the routes change each year unfortunately but I’m on the new ones from first week of March for recces/new videos 👌🏼👌🏼

Nice one thanks and hope you can enjoy the summer in the hills (if it arrives) 😊
Great video, thank you. I'm racing Saturday but I've never been to Wales 🤦♂️ this was so helpful! I'm getting excited ☺️

Thanks Gary. I've done a few AL races but never used poles. I'm doing the Lakeland 50 next year so I'm thinking poles like these might be helpful.
Yeah great if you can get out and practice with them I’m sure they will … good luck with training 👍🏼

If you watch my review of the trail flys you will realise I wouldn’t recommend them for anything…. I ran it all in the X talon just fine.

If you can prove it yes 🙌
