Interesting video - thanks. I got to it from the one about the Moment lenses, which I've been wondering about buying but haven't yet (so thanks for that one as well). Last year I got rid of a DSLR system and bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max as the replacement. I had been looking at these add-on lenses as an extra, and your videos have been very helpful. I'm very happy with the iPhone within the limits of the focal lengths available. We won't, however, mention the fact that I've just bought a s/h mirrorless system to give me something that goes beyond 77mm.....
I have 3 Sandmarc lenses. Here’s something to know: Their basic plastic case is rubbish. It cracked after I dropped the phone at home. Besides the rear glass of the IPhone broke. The paint peeled after a week of use but that I’m not bothered about. The tele lens has a filter thread. Others don’t The IPhone stabilizer doesn’t seem to work with tele lens on.
the macro lens doesnt work with main default camera app…. even when using a telephoto mode it switches to main when using an external macro lens….. only third party apps work fine

Great review. I bought the moment lenses a couple of years ago. The tele lens has become practically useless on the 14 Pro Max. I think the Reeflex lenses are performing better overall. I also heard that Reeflex lenses might be made by SANDMARC. I will need to verify their thread size as well. Thank you!
Actually I don’t think moment telephoto lens works with any of the latest iPhone. Mine is 13 pro max and had to return it after 2 days. Highly disappointed and worse their refund takes 3-4weeks. Should have gone with SANDMARC from the get go
Great review. And timely. I was on the verge of ordering the Moment tele and anamorphic when I saw your test with them on the new iPhone 14 pro. It seems as though the lens size/mounting system of the Sandmarc tele fixed a lot of the issues you found trying to use the Moment tele with the iPhone 14 pro. I know you're still getting ready to test, but any guesses whether the Sandmarc Anamorphic will be equally as lucky given its different mounting style?
Thanks Don! I’ve just received the rest of Sandmarc’s lenses. Can confirm they work great with the 14 Pro / Pro Max in my early tests! No dark corners or vignetting that I can see! I’ll try them out some more and have a video out when I can. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB thanks JCK! Same and same, for the anamorphic anyways. Though I did discover that, even a 40.5mm to 67mm step up ring without a filter even screwed on will cause vignetting with the anamorphic. Will have to zoom in a little when shooting anamorphic with an ND filter. Small price to pay. Also, as others have found the 1.33x desqueeze doesn’t work quite perfectly with this one on most camera apps (moment, cinema p3), for example shooting a round plate overhead. It does seem to work well with Filmic Pro for some reason…
Thanks for sharing Don! They haven’t sent an ND, I only have their polariser. And they’ve send the Blue Flare 1.33x anamorphic to be specific. Interesting! I mostly shoot in Filmic anyway as Moment doesn’t really update their app much anymore! ✌🏻
@@JCKRGB yeah, I almost pulled the trigger on Filmic when I saw a great review of Cinema P3. The big advantage with that one, for anamorphic especially, is the ability to apply custom distortion correction in camera. It makes the anamorphic look right as rain!
Nice. Technically I’m using Filmic Legacy as I’ve not switched to their subscription yet. I’ll check out Cinema P3, it looks like a good replacement if Legacy stops working ✌🏻

just curious. using that 2x zoom method, where you crop the 48 MP down to 12 MP, the sandmarc telephoto lens could give you a 4x instead of the 3x built in?
How are the images when the 58 mm lens is mounted on the tele camera instead of the main camera? Obviously it'd be more sensitive to shake but if the images are good, I often could use a longer lens that the stock 2x or 3x.
This can happen with the built-in camera app for a couple of reasons. Firstly the camera might be auto-switching to Macro mode. To prevent this, go to the Settings app > Camera > Scroll down to Macro Control and turn this toggle on. Now in the camera app, when you get within macro distance of your subject, the Yellow Macro button appears on the screen. Tap the Macro button to turn off automatic macro switching. Apple has a guide here to: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/iphone/iphfaacf2eb0/ios The other reason is the native camera app sometimes tries to switch to another camera if it thinks something is blocking it. There’s no way to turn this off, so it’s best to use a third party camera app that doesn’t auto switch. I like to use Filmic Pro, Halide and the Moment Pro Camera App. I’ve linked to those in the description but there are lots of others out there too. Hope that helps you! ✌🏻

When I post a video, UA-cam has a Paid Promotion checkbox which states "If you accepted anything of value from a third party to make your video, you must let us know. We'll show viewers a message telling them that your video contains paid promotion." Because SANDMARC sent me these lenses for free to review, that would fall under "accepted anything of value" - even though I'm not being paid or sponsored by them. But the wording of the label it shows in the video is always the same - it just says "Includes paid promotion" - which personally I think is a bit confusing on UA-cam's part! Therefore I check the box - but explain in my videos that the product was sent to me for free, but that the video is not sponsored! I've shown how lens attachments can cause the active camera to switch in the Native Camera app in videos before so I did skip over it this time. No exif data in the files as the iPhone has no was of knowing what lens is mounted. Perhaps some third party apps could do that if you told it what lens you were using 🤔 Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
Yes! The lenses come with a clip for mounting the lenses directly to your phone. And I didn't know this at the time, but all lens purchases also come with SANDMARC's 'Lens Case' - a thinner, more basic case that you can mount the lenses with. True, if Apple makes any major changes to the iPhone cameras it could affect the lenses. But in the past I’ve found lenses like these will last a few generations without major issues. These lenses were specifically designed for the 14 Pro Max with its much bigger sensor. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
So using the 58mm with the 3x tele gives you more reach but that reach is digital rather than optical right? So the image quality wouldn’t be as good as a genuine optical zoom? Just trying to get my head around this.
No the reach is optical with the Tele Lens over the Tele Camera. The Tele camera on the 14 Pro’s is a 3x. The Tele lens equals about a 2x. Giving you 6x when both are combined. You could zoom in further but then you’d be zooming in digitally. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻

If you’re using the native camera app, it might be auto switching into Macro Mode which is why you’re seeing the side of the Tele lens. Hi Jack, great review! Question - I'm trying to find a telescopic attachment for an iPhone 13Pro that will allow me to shoot sport, primarily cricket. As my subject is typically going to be at least 50 metres away, ideally to give a reasonably professional effect but on a budget, am I looking for something that doesn't really exist or would the Sandmark Tele attachment cut it? The Hybrid ND PL has a Neutral Density filter along with the Polariser, ND’s reduce the amount of light passing through them to the sensor so you can lower your shutter speed when shooting. Useful for getting some motion blur in your videos!✌🏻
Yes, SANDMARC does also make cases and lenses for the standard iPhone 14, but the standard 14’s have a 12MP Main Camera. Not the higher resolution 48MP Main Camera like the Pro’s do ✌🏻
Difficult to say without seeing what’s going on but here’s some tips! - Make sure your phone camera and the SANDMARC lens are both clean - Shoot with a third party camera app with manual focus controls. Auto focus + LiDAR can sometimes get confused by any lenses mounted. SANDMARC will probably be able to help you better if you reach out to them! ✌🏻
Thank you for informative video. I am new to photography and started my journey with iphone. I also bought sandmarc lenses. But I am unable to get good results as you have shown. Is there something that I am missing? I haven’t used third part apps that much. So manual settings are kind of hard for me yet. 😢
I used Halide to take the photos in this video. But I only used it for manually choosing what camera to shoot with and for manual focus. Everything else I left on auto! Good light really helps with photography, and the sunlight was really good when I took these shots. A while back I did make a video about some the best camera apps for iPhone where I covered some of the basics of how they work. TERRIBLE customer service!!! I ordered TWO 14 Pro Max lenses in OCTOBER and I STILL don'e have them yet!!!! One was JUST shipped but the 1.55 anamorphic has been backordered AGAIN until May! I was supposed to get it in December...then delayed until February and then by the end of March and now May!

When I put the lens on my iphone14 pro and try to shoot in Photo mode, half the view is blacked out. Why?

Hi Jack, great review! Question - I'm trying to find a telescopic attachment for an iPhone 13Pro that will allow me to shoot sport, primarily cricket. As my subject is typically going to be at least 50 metres away, ideally to give a reasonably professional effect but on a budget, am I looking for something that doesn't really exist or would the Sandmark Tele attachment cut it? If not anything you'd suggest/recommend? Thanks!
What's the real difference between drama filter and the hybrid nd/pl filter? Don't know which one to get with tele lens.
The Hybrid ND PL has a Neutral Density filter along with the Polariser, ND’s reduce the amount of light passing through them to the sensor so you can lower your shutter speed when shooting. Useful for getting some motion blur in your videos!✌🏻

Yes, SANDMARC does also make cases and lenses for the standard iPhone 14, but the standard 14’s have a 12MP Main Camera. Not
the higher resolution 48MP Main Camera like the Pro’s do ✌🏻

I need help, when I mount the sandmarc telephoto lens, the image is blurry specifically in the middle. How do I fix this?
Difficult to say without seeing what’s going on but here’s some tips!
- Make sure your phone camera and the SANDMARC lens are both clean
- Shoot with a third party camera app with manual focus controls. Auto focus + LiDAR can sometimes get confused by any lenses mounted.
SANDMARC will probably be able to help you better if you reach out to them! ✌🏻

My 14pro warms up a little bit when I use it, is this normal? If not any help/advice and I don’t use it while charging
Thank you for informative video. I am new to photography and started my journey with iphone. I also bought sandmarc lenses. But I am unable to get good results as you have shown. Is there something that I am missing? I haven’t used third part apps that much. So manual settings are kind of hard for me yet. 😢
I have the same questions. I need help with the telephoto lens usage with the app.
I used Halide to take the photos in this video. But I only used it for manually choosing what camera to shoot with and for manual focus. Everything else I left on auto!
Good light really helps with photography, and the sunlight was really good when I took these shots.

I wish they sold a solo ND filter. 90$ is way to much & getting 3 different ones is a bit to much. I think they would get a lot of sales if they made that switch
They do have a variable ND Filter, which combines a few ND strengths (ND8 - ND64) into one filter. They call it the Motion Variable Filter ✌🏻
Have to iPhone 12 pro max?

TERRIBLE customer service!!! I ordered TWO 14 Pro Max lenses in OCTOBER and I STILL don'e have them yet!!!! One was JUST shipped but the 1.55 anamorphic has been backordered AGAIN until May! I was supposed to get it in December...then delayed until February and then by the end of March and now May!
