Dope video, we’re from the same area! I was watching this because I plan to get a gheenoe and fix it up for shallow flats fishing as my boats too big so this was helpful 🙌🏽
Nice job. I am looking to restore my 13’ lowsider in a few weeks. Thanks for the video. I have to do the same items as you and I am going to layer my floor a few sheets. Thicken it up. Early 80s model gheenoe
I’m about to redo my benches on my gheenoe and I have to cut the bench so I can dig out the bad foam. I think I’m going to make a panel on a flat surface and then lay it on the bench and glass it to the top. What material should I make the panel on that the resin won’t stick as it dries?
How has your front bench held up so far! I did my front bench fiberglass the whole length of the bench with 3 layers and added a pedestal plate, but I took the paint off before applying.
This might be a stupid question but I just rebuilt my transom, looking to paint now, basically exactly how you did. What type of brush did you use and how many coats, and how did you prep the surface? Thanks man
How did you shape the wood to the inside of the transom? Did you make a stencil of some kind? If so how did you do that? I am thinking just putting some kraft paper in there and using a sharpy but not sure if thats the best way.
Sorry for the late response man! But yes! Quite literally took drafting paper and just pushed it flush in to the transom and used a pencil to trace the shape. It wasn’t perfect when I traced it on the plywood but I just shaved/sawed off whatever extra I needed to!
With your jackplate at max height. How much higher does the engine sit above the transom? Versus if it was sitting on the transom and how much paint did you use for the interior?
Hey man! Rule of thumb for motor height with a jackplate is your cavitation plate on your lower unit should be the same height as the bottom of your hull, basically where your drain plug is. You may want to adjust give or take an inch or two but that’s the rule of thumb!
Great video. Melbourne here too. Just about to start a lowsider very similar to what you had to do. What kind of jack plate did you use? If you have a link that would be great.

About to start on mine,Transom and a couple other weak spots and wanting to add stick steering.

Nice man! Yeah, it worked out for me and it was actually pretty simple! Hope this video gave you some ideas. Good luck!
Thanks for the video man. Going to do this on my 15’4 very soon
Hope it turned out well! Thanks for watching!
Looking good. Good job 👍 😎
Overlapping is key. The bottom of that plywood you put on the transom should have been overlapped with the cloth. Nice job for your first time man.
So sick! Thank you.
Thanks for posting
Brevard county baby...I'm from tvill and about to do a project very similar to my skiff for a casting deck...great content..got a follow form me

Great video dude love the setup. I just bought myself a gheeno . What jack plate are you using?

Dude you bonded your new glass onto paint/gelcoat
Always has to be a smart ass in the comment section ☝️☝️☝️. You did a good job on your boat bro. ✌️
Would love to talk to you about your experience fiberglassing Gheenoes! Can’t believe we haven’t crossed paths.

Hey brother! Sorry for the late response but I’ll be honest, I’m not quite sure what you mean!
Im interested in the jack plate, can you yell me the name of it and where to get it?
Did you happen to save the transom board cut out template?

Hey man! I basically just sanded and hit it with acetone, then started painting with Topside and a roller. Maybe 3-4 coats. Was super easy man.
@@reeldill2882 sweet thanks man!

Hi, how is the transom holding up now. I also am about to start my rebuild. Thanks
Hey man! Solid as a rock! Don’t think it would need to be done for another decade, honestly!

"Very nice how much" lol
Hahah, dude I just had to do it again with the back bench and in all the materials were like $30. So easy.
