  • By request today we will be making a beginner watercolor card. You will need some watercolor's, a green, a blue, and a flower color. I used pink. A pice of watercolor paper about 6.5"x7.5", and a 9"x12" sheet of hot press paper. You can use card stock or whatever you have for the card. Oh, and don't forget your watercolor brushes! Then a sentiment stamp, or you can do your own writing. Let's get started!

    Thank you so much for doing this tutorial! I make my own cards and try and add a watercolor painting into my card. I have been racking my brain for a thank you card for some friends and this got my interest. I got a bit messy in my splattering and ended up putting matching splatters all over my card. The funny part was when I showed my husband my finished card and he asked if I was going to trim off the edges that were ragged. I explained to him that it's a deckled edge and is suppose to look like that. Even after 50 years of marriage, I can still teach him something new. Love your channel!

      Thank you Jan. I did watercolor for a year or two and then tried acrylic. I only liked it for about a year and went back to watercolor. I am a watercolorist through and through. I do like gouache though. I do some oil painting and pastel. But this is my true art love. Yes give it a try and remember light to dark colors and many mistakes can be fixed. Some colors stain some lift off the paper very easily. You will get there. Just don’t give up if you get frustrated. It is very different.

    The “milking” the pigment out of your brush is an amazing tip. I have some brushes like the silver black velvet that really hug onto the pigment and I always hate losing expensive pigment to the water.

    Oh my goodness it was WONDERFUL reading you're 65 and just started to paint. I'm 65 and a half and I have all of the supplies needed watercolor, oil and acrylic I watch all the videos on UA-cam and I have yet to pick up a brush. Plus my life's been shortened with cancer and I still can't pick up a brush. I'm just going to keep watching

    • @SharonCullenArt
      @SharonCullenArt  4 роки тому

      B E Oh no! That is he saddest thing I have ever read! It sounds like you want to paint or you wouldn’t have bought all these supplies. What is holding you back? Why not just slap some paint on paper and have fun if nothing else? You could easily perform this beginner card. Just get a small piece of paper and go for it. Then try it again. Maybe use some different colors. I don’t understand why you just want to watch. I would think that since you have had cancer you would want to try those things you didn’t before. Most of my patients felt this way. You say your life has been shortened? Are you stage 4 and there is no treatment? All the more reason to try things you have wanted to try. If your reason is you just don’t have the strength I could understand that. But when reading your statement you are saying contradictory things which leads me to believe you want to do it or you wouldn’t have mentioned that you have yet to pick up a brush.
      I don’t know if I will wake up tomorrow or get another chance to paint. But if I do you’re darn straight I am going to pick up a brush and give it a go.
      Go for it!

    Really cool! Love the simplicity of it, but it was professional in the end. Those cards go for $5 in stores.....I love paper, got loads of stationary and paints, too. Also, instead of tearing the edges, which I love that look, I've also taken my paper outside with a lighter and lightly burn the edges little by little and blowing out the fire as I go around the paper. Puts an 'old world' look to your project. Thanks for showing your technique - I enjoyed watching. I did subscribe, will wait for more. Thank you ♡

      @@SharonCullenArt The lady who first taught me to oil paint, was an invalid and told me that if I became bed-fast someday, I'd be able to paint in bed, too. She passed away about a year ago and everything she taught me has been invaluable! Thank you for your reply: I know you have MANY "students!" All of us love what you do, from the replies I've seen and appreciate you very much: especially now with the lock-down! Bless you!

    I could do this! Thank you. As the video neared the end, I noticed the cuffs of your sweat shirt. So real! Most of the craft videos I follow, the people seem to be able to wear long sleeves and never get them smudgy. (Or maybe they just buy a lot of new clothes.). Not my experience! I like your style 😁

      I'm getting much better at not wearing those smudgey shirts! 🙄🤣 Thank you.

    That was so nice. I've just starting painting at the age of 65. I enjoyed your session thanks.

      Great. We are never too old to start. In fact a lot of seniors take it up later in life when life isn’t getting in the way as much! I think i was about 51 when i started.
