Gas stations would also have their own tow truck. I remember you could get free roadmaps. My uncle had a Gulf Station in Fayetteville,NC. He would give us free Disney magazines. He gave me a coin purse. On it it had his logo " Horne's Good Gulf "
All the filling stations in my area have the squeegees and buckets of water to clean the windows. The buckets are sometimes empty and the squeegees are missing. 😢
Some gas stations still have repair shops, but not as many as before. In Virginia, we go to gas stations for safety & emission inspections. There are allot more gas stations that don't have a service shop but just a convenience store
FWIW the Indian Trading Post store in Pennsylvania's Cook Forest State Park still has a working phone booth in front of the gas pumps due to the fact there is no cell coverage in much of the area.
As for the window washing squeegee thing , a lot of the problems with that are the inconsiderate scumbags that decide to wash their car with the window squeegee . The road dirt and oils that come off of the car's body make getting a windshield clean nearly impossible !!! But, it's getting more and more common for gas stations to no longer provide window squeegees any way . The rarely even provide paper towels .
- Where I live, the gas station has a mini-convenience store that sells cigarettes and other tobacco products, and they have Bic lighters right on the pay counter. - I remember some of the older gas stations, back in the day, had a chest-type cooler for bottled soft drinks. They were kept cool with ice. Lift the chest lid and slide out the soft drink of your choice. The coolers were usually left outside all night. - I never saw any flags handed out at old gas stations, but they often had rubber or foam balls with the brand logo for your antenna. A lot of gas stations gave Green Stamps or Gold Bond Stamps. - Some old gas stations had weird tubular-shaped gas pumps with a glass top that you could see the gas bubble through, and others had a colored spinner when the gas was being pumped.
you forgot one thing that is not sold at gas stations any more. GAS. With the rise of electric cars. There is no need to sell gas. The modern gas station as we know it has now been converted to an electric charging station. Where customers just pull in and connect their car to a charger, and charge it like they would a phone or laptop.
😄 Gas stations do not have electric charging stations anymore. Cars use solar panels on the roof and front bumper to recharge their Lithium ion battery.
@@JohnWilson-wg4gk I haven't seen a gas station in a while. I think there are a few still around for those with the old gas propelled cars and those classic cars
@@Richardpasquinucci Dear Fan Boy, Using that "google machine," I get the following: _According to AFDC, only 0.86% of registered vehicles in the United States are electric, with 43 states having adoption rates below 1%._ So, I don't think gas stations have exactly gone the way of the horse and buggy.
Plenty of photographers still use film, and have their own dark room with development gear. Don't assume the "modern" crap has made the good stuff extinct.
One thing you don’t see anymore is your rubber hose that ran across the driveway at a gas station rang a bell inside the station when a car pulled in.
I am so sorry for the things not found at filling stations. Especially inexpensive fuel.
It's really neat when your GPS app says turn right now when all thats there is a steep drop off.

When I worked for Standard in the 60's, we still had glass bottles for bulk oil, pumped from a tank in the service bay.

As do all those in my area. Many also have free air.
I remember asking the attendant if he had any STP decals, those were worth their weight in gold when I was in grade school (the late 60’s)

I remember when oil was in cans.
This is great! Was that 'Angry Grandpa' at 13:35?

But you skipped oil in cans...
I remember when ARCO would giving away pieces to a toy Noah's Ark.
