Yorrichi cut all of muzan's 7 brains and 5 Hearts and that should have killed him. The reason he did not die was because he had a technique which could get him out of a situation like this. He exploded himself into about 1800 pieces. Yorrichi, who is in a state of shock, was able to cut about 1500 of those pieces. If he would have been able to cut all of those pieces, muzan would have died. The remaining 300 or so pieces clumped together to form a head, and from this head muzan was able to regenerate back.
There was someone who said that muzan from the past was weaker than the current upper moons (1,2 and 3). I would disagree with that. The reason being that, the current upper moons are so weak compared to yorrichi, that if muzan was weaker than them in the past he would have been easily, completely killed by yorrichi.
And muzan from the past was able to regenerate his head, whereas the current upper moons can barely regenerate their own heads with great difficulty. This is another proof that muzan from the past was still stronger than the current upper moons.
Kokushibo become a demon was the reason why the demon slayer corps fell because Muzan and Kokushibo were now creating an army together leaving Yoriichi passing down what he knows for the future generations to put a stop to the demons once and for all

Bullshit. The real reason yorichi was removed from demon slayer was
1) His brother became a demon and killed the master of the corps as gift to mizan
2) he taught slayer coprs breathing and which resulted in marking in swordsman who died before completing 25 yrs.
3) He let tamayo live because he saw tamayo's desperation to kill muzan
4)he couldn't kill muzan.
