Glad that you liked the video. I also tried to install OpenWRT on the Aruba AP-105 and other devices, feel free to check out these videos on the channel home page.
Sorry for necroing, but wouldn't using a USB to RJ45 console cable to connect through Serial in Putty provide de same result without disassembling the AP considering you have the PoE adapter that allows data with a second cable?
Hi there, do you have this AP on-hand? The UniFi AP doesn’t have a console port. I believe you are talking about the Unifi Security Gateway series which have RJ45 for configuration.
@@VanTechCorner I ordered the TTL adapter, you should have seen the look on my face when i saw that my UAP has no pins on the boards (i have the same uap-lr but its the version where the Ubiquiti logo was changed)
Tengo un UAP LR, el mismo que el del video, Pero el equipo no bootea, queda con la luz naranja titilando. como es el cable que tengo que usar? o de donde podria sacar el diagrama para armarlo
Hi, sorry for the late response. In the video I used the USB to Serial (TTL) adapter using the CH340 chip. Here is the link to it www.cytron.io/p-ch340-usb-to-ttl-serial-cable.
Great video! A suggestion for the future, if you do a review and evaluate the speed of something, use iperf to evaluate the real network bandwidth and not be limited by your wan!
Thanks for the comment. For other devices, I do run the test with iperf3/openspeedtest. The Unifi AP only has 100Mbps port where my internet plan is ~ 200 Mbps, that's why I don't give it a try with iperf.
Hi thanks for quick reply so i want to flash ap ac lr but looks different frome your doe this apply i attached..drive.google.com/file/d/197gAcsQMTDp2IIZlZ4jzsjsVW-a62G34/view?usp=drivesdk
Can you install OpenWRT on the edgerouter X? I tried once and I failed and I have no idea what I did wrong. I would really appreciate a step by step guide from you. Ty in advance in case you're gonna do it :)
Great video! My UAP did not have pins so I had to solder them on but I got it connected. Tftpboot is timing out though. Server is up and running, firewall is off, testing with Filezilla works. Ping from UAP shows host is alive. I can see the UAP on my LAN. Filename checks out. Server log does not even register the attempt. I'm at a loss what the issue could be.
@@VanTechCorner Hi again, thanks for your tutorial i succesfully update my unifi ap LR. The only different is the hex i used for copying the system as i use latest openwrt firmware. next ill update my ac lr, finger crossed.
Hi, I have no idea on DD-WRT, if it has the same file system and mtd info with OpenWRT, I think the installation process is the same. But you better check with who used DD-WRT before to avoid damaging the AP.
Make sure you follow the guide (wiki) where there are changes in the start/end address according to the OpenWrt version. My video will work if you install the same OpenWrt version like what I am doing. 2 months ago, I flashed another UAP-LR to OpenWrt and it worked just fine.
@@VanTechCorner My mistake (RTFM) was that the latest version is broken and using the same version that you used in the video was exactly what I needed. Not it works smoothly after I followed with that older firmware on a UAP-LR. Thank you so much.
Thank you very much!! Since UAP is EOL from Unify, this is a very useful guide now!!

Nothing worked for me. Did exact. Only server ip 192.168.1.19 keeps popping up. 😢 even with ip set
I was afraid to do the process but this video really helps to make it easier, with openwrt fast roaming is better and the signal is very stable
not can stopp autoboot in putty tryed many times putty not see my hit any key... You can help me? My device is uap-swx
Can you help me for my powerbeam 5ac gen 2???
i nerd to install opnwrt to this device
I am looking to do this with a Ubiquiti U6 LR. Do you know if the process is similar? I prefer not to do a console install, by opening the device up.

Thanks for the guide. What TTL cable are you using (or do you recommend)?

9:45 it looks like you only enabled 2.4 GHz (802.11n / WiFi 4) but not 5 GHz (802.11ac / WiFi 5).
This is a UniFi AP LR (UAP-LR), there is no WiFi 5 radio.
112500? Not 115200 baud?
Mikrotik Lhg-5nd please
why is it slower on openwrt?

Hi, you can surely do that. There is video on the channel "AP Client" and "AP bridge", you can check it out.

Hi, may I know if the problem is only when you install OpenWrt or the AP is totally brick now?

For UniFi AC series, you can see my recent tutorial.
