  • The master vs. the dabbler. Which one are you? The mindset that you adopt will determine the direction that your life will take. Download my FREE course to learn about the 7 business models that made me an Internet millionaire: projectlifemas...
In this video I talk about the master versus the dabbler mentality.
I believe that mastery is the path to living an extraordinary life. If you look at the most successful, happy and fulfilled people in the world, they are masters.
A dabbler is somebody that starts something but they never finish it, whether that’s a business, a goal, a course, or a relationship. They love the initial excitement and rush of starting something new.
When the dabbler hits a plateau and they get challenged, they jump ship. They move onto something else because the initial newness has worn off. Sure enough, they repeat the same cycle, again and again.
The master is somebody that commits to everything. If they cant find the way, they make the way. There is no plan B. They burn the boat, so they have to take the island, and they understand that there is a process to everything. They view a plateau as an opportunity to grow and find a new answer.
Bruce Lee once said, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10000 times”. Mastering that one kick, as opposed to dabbling with many different techniques and strategies, is a lot more powerful.
The Master vs. The Dabbler? Which one are you? One way to find out is to look at your life and your results.
Choose to be the master. Commit your life to mastery, because this is the path where everything becomes available.

I must admit that I am definitely a Dabbler. Very inspiring video, I had not thought of it like that before. I could definitely relate to many of your analogies. Thank you for this knowledge. I am currently working on myself, and eliminating those things that are not truly important in my life and focusing on those things that I have chosen to master.

I've been stuck in a loop. Writing down goals then pushing them to the next month, self-discipline is non existent. This video made me realize that I've been a dabbler but not anymore. Time to stick with it and finish what I start!

Hello. I found this topic very interesting. I was saying as a young man I was very athletic and master at that craft. Then I got a little older and I couldn't physically do what I was doing before and spent the next couple years dabbling. Now in my early 40s I find myself hyper focused. I have been an automotive technician for the last 20 years and with the help of people like you have found ways to take it to the next level. I am building a Brand/business called How to Automotive. I have not slept much in the last eight months , working on and molding this business . Thank you for help and motivation!

I am a dabbler. I start things and like you said..i build that bridge but never get to cross it. I never see the other side because of excuses, situations and my reasoning. Honestly, I've come to slightly understand myself a bit more and I've become my worse fear. I hate it. I choose the easy way and ignore the right way. Dabbling has become a huge part in my life and it's consumed my integrity. The first thing I'm going to change is choosing the right way, no matter how long, exhausting, time consuming it may be. I'm going to choose the right way because I am on the way to mastering myself. Nobody else is going to do it, right?

I have to mention that a percentage of Dabblers may have ADHD (if it has caused dis-order in their lives).
I was diagnosed last year and my life makes far more sense now. Medication has helped a lot but you need to find a balance that works for you. A little ADHD can be a good thing, I've come to learn.
I'm going to fight my brain and commit to my upcoming business. I fear I'll lose my spark..but I'm going to try one last time to commit to this for good, maybe I'll have a chance now that medication reduced some of symptoms. Wish me luck!

Full dabbler here. I was asking myself why I always jump from one idea to another. I never really got anything done, because I used to jump the second the initial excitement went away. Thanks for clearing things up Stefan! I'm going to go back to the core and figure things out before I'll abandon anything again.

BIGGEST NEGATIVE to being a dabbler is the more you don't stick to your word and finish what you said, it's only harming yourself because you actually lose the belief that you can get anything done. you start to lose trust in yourself. you don't even trust your own word. bad place to end up.

  • @nicoleneal6187

I have to say, I have been a dabbler for a very long time, but I'm pushing myself every day to commit to mastery.
Funny thing is the more you commit the more life throws at you... like it's saying "so, you gonna quit yet? You normally do." and that's tempting, but you just keep building your skill, sticking with it...eventually you're going to be valuable.
I used to pride myself on being sort of good at a lot of things, but commitment is the only way to build a bridge.
    Amazing content :)

I have been a dabbler, but have also achieved many goals, it's crazy because the goals I have achieved have been some of the most impossible things when I first thought about them, however there are other goals I know I am supposed to achieve and have an extremely difficult time keeping at them, lose some weight, get in shape, I am a drummer and I want to keep developing that talent, I also need to start creating additional streams of income as I don't want to depend on a job forever. I struggle with keeping up with so much, my family depends on me and I can't keep going the same way. I need to do something to get us out of debt and job depending life style.

Being very honest, I am a dabbler for the longest time. After going through the ups and down of life, I have found the one thing that I am mastering. Forex trading.
Initially, I dabbled into Kindle Publishing as it looked interesting. Now, I've told myself that these are the two things. But like what you said, after hitting a plateau, I started again to dabble on to other things.
After realizing that mistake after this video. I will be heading back to doing the only two things that I am mastering. Forex Trading and Kindle Publishing.
Thanks Stephan, if there is a way to have this video recorded down. I will keep it with me 100% and watch it every time I feel like i'm starting to hit that plateau and start dabbling again.

Wow so happy to have clicked that video!
after watching that video, I must say, although it's hard for me to really admit this, when I look at my results I can definitely say that I was a dabbler, DAM, I am, but I must chance that, I guess I'll have to find the way to do so, because I've learned that change has to take place outside as well as inside, so I have multiple beliefs and habits that's just supports my self doubts and laziness, it's sure won't be easy to change them, but I have to make it fun and enjoy the journey otherwise what's the point? I mean I want to be successful but as long as I won't be aware of my obstacles and won't know what to do about it, then I can lose my time.. for nothing, so as I'm writing this I get a bit overwhelmed with how much energy should be invested in this massive change, I can see how massive it is, I have to find the way to make it doable and pace myself, It was always hard for me to stay focused and motivated long run. little by little, I can see really why I have the results that I get. Hey thanks for the video I appreciate your work!!

I get this, I really do and also you just reminded me of something important, that your friends can also distract you from your purpose, my example as an artist with one of my friend had once asked me don't you have any unfinished paintings, and I answered no, she gave me a look of disbelief, but I enjoy finishing something I start and I have great satisfaction when I am finished, unfortunately I did let myself be persuaded to dabble in many things with her influence and have many unfinished works but I am going to finish every one now. Thanks so much.

i NEED HELP ON THIS ONE GUYS: I have many varied interests and I want to learn almost everything I come across. By nature I am very inquisitive and curious. But I am not able to figure out what is that one thing that can fire me lifelong. Sounds weird, but there's so many things people are good at all their lives and they make successful careers out of it, but I cannot figure out what's the ONE thing I want to be. I want to be many things, but sadly most of things do not pay well financially. Oh this is such gibberish I have typed.. i know no one would understand this dilemma. Anyhow, I've put it out there in the UA-cam universe, hopefully some soul will answer it someday!

Hey Stefan, I am a dabbler in certain areas, such as gaining my financial freedom/starting a business/certain personal projects: I find you very inspiring. I did master a number of things, I know what it takes, I play an instrument, I know what it means to practice the same routines day after day and then give one concert, one shot. I mastered relationships. In some areas, I draw a blank: I start a website, run into issues populating it and then it just sits there. It is very frustrating, it feels like I am all by myself battling the world around me. Just needed to get that out.
