$130 for this? AverMedia Live Gamer Mini Review

- Just because capture cards can handle 1080p/60 capture doesn't make them equal. The AverMedia Live Gamer Mini is a $130 capture card that really doesn't live up to the competition in this price point.
NOTE: The Live Gamer Mini is down to $99 on Amazon... and that does change my opinion slightly. It certainly performs better in that price point, but the image quality is still sub-par compared to offering just slightly above it in price. This review, however, was done with the originally announced retail price in mind.
But first... What am I drinking???
Sticking local with Old Town Brewing (Portland, OR) Upper Left NW IPA (6.3%). An interesting, fruit-forward IPA, ditching the usual aromatics for... blueberries? Kudos for trying something new, and while I can taste the blueberry, it doesn't mix well with the tangerine and hops in the main body of this beer. Different, drinkable, but not great.

I love how the beer goes down but we don't ever see him drink it... just between clips it gets lower....
and occasionally it refills partway through and begins emptying again....
Be honest, you only watch for the beer...
Try watching the whole video...
one of the best reviews ever, sharp and directly to the point!
Yes! I hate all these videos over 10 so people get more ads. I get it, we all like money, but it's annoying.
Stay consistent with the good content & you'll grow quick on UA-cam! Keep it up!
I've been borrowing an AverMedia Live Gamer Portable from a friend, and I recently upgraded to an Elgato HD60 Pro PCIe card. I need to do a side by side comparison like you have to see if there is a noticeable difference.
Glad your back
Nice...thanks.A thumbs up from Portugal

I recently purchased this capture card and can confirm the colour and compression issues. Even the cheap no name cards don't have these issues. One plus with this card is the ease of set up, virtually plug and play. Pass through was quality and accurate, recording was not.
Welcome back 👍😉🍻
We used the “old” live gamer portable and the Game Capture HD II. We sold all out Game Capture HD II because of no support for 1080p50/60. We use the live gamer portable for backup-recording in live video production environment. So far the 30€/33$ for a used one on eBay are good invested. Even the quality is not as good. In our case we find out that the output of the “old” lgp defeated the signal !!! We captured footage with hyperdeck studio mini as it comes out of this box and it was crap. Turning the chain around capturing the hyperdecks loop out with the LGP everything is as it should.
I use my Avermedia LGM with a camera for a facecam setup. Now I'm thinking of trying out my $55 Chinese cheapy capture card again and see if there's a difference, or improvement.
Anyone have any alternative recommendations now that the Pengo device seems to be completely unavailable?
Most of your videos aren't relevant to me yet, a lot to learn but content is always top notch.
My first capture card experience was with the Elgato HD60 plus. Didn't work with my i5 6 Core 16 Ram 3000Gz, 1060 GPX graphics card, wouldn't capture screen even without a console.
For PC recording I use OBS and NDI, just stream through NDI to my server and have it do all the encoding and saving (and possibly streaming). If i record my Xbox one, my go to is still my old Elgato Game Capture... Cuz i have it, and i'm not buying an actual PCIE card that i wont ever use lol
Seems like the Live Gamer Mini is configured for the wrong colour space for it to capture. I had the same issue with my Live Gamer Portable HD 2 and the only way to change it was to go into RECentral and there switch the colour space in the config section. The artifacting is a bummer though I have it aswell when capturing ovee USB. When capturing with the device directly though this issue doesn't exist or at least not that much.
Can you use the capture card to record retro games? And what else am I going to have to buy to do so?
Thanks.
I have a 1080p 144hz display that uses Display Port from my gpu. If i were to plug an hdmi cable into the Pengo and set windows to duplicate the display to it, would i still see 144hz on my monitor while capturing 60hz or would it drop my refresh rate down to 60hz?
60
As long it allowed me to record smooth gameplay, the images quality is not important for me.
Looks like I'll be buying the Pengo
I love the beard, good on ya man. I can only frow a goatee so I'm jealous of ya
Man, you make drinking really desirable :-).
We missed you jeff
But does the second card have 0 latency pass-through? The only thing I care about with a capture card, ironically enough, is the pass-through. I want to play my Switch on my PC very conveniently rather than toggling inputs. So, the latency is very important to me.
Elgato HD 60S is for 129.99 in UK for me
Do you have any recent suggestions for a captire card? My son wants to start a youtube gaming channel.
So, should i buy the LGP Lite ? Because the pengo seems to be unavailable and the HD60S is pretty pricy. I don't know what to buy after this :/
I have the Avermedia live gamer mini and I set it up the same way, but no sound comes through from my PS4 in streamlabs only video. it only works in there software. Any idea how I can get sound in streamlabs ??
Grammy did you add a separate audio source?
Could anyone tell me if you can add a web cam fit this.
Okay so I have this and the only way the audio goes to obs or while I’m streaming is if the audio is set to tv/speakers which means I can’t hear the gameplay in my headset. How can my stream hear the gameplay while my headset hears the same thing??? Please help
Try the El Gato Chat Link. Or connect a divider to your monitor, with one division going to the capture card and the other to your headset.
i bought this card 1 year ago . to stream some mario maker 2 . i guess it work okay then i went to try stream some ps3 and i just get copyright protection on every game i got for ps3 :(
I can get the Avermedia one for 33$, would you say that's worth it?
POGGY WOGGY
Can I use pengo with window 10?
Of course. That's what I tested it with.
ily
Elgato still on top of the recording devices I see.
I remember the days of my old Hauppauge capture device, recording CoD gameplay lmao
Pengo looks like its stuttering all over the place?
its 100 now, still a good buy?
it's 70 now lol I guess that would qualify as worth it for an entry point device
@@MrJason102888 i did a yikes and 3 months ago I bought a lgp lite for 100 cause the live gamer mini went up in price lmfao
@@viser9575 Yeah the other one he mentioned went up in price too, it may have just been a sale. but I got it for a good starting point because I lost my other capture card that I used for a little bit and stopped, so now here I am wanting to try again lol. He ain't lying about them being small and easy to lose lmao
yurrr
Now I see why it’s $95 Canadian on Amazon… if it’s too good to be true, then it’s likely too good to be true
Does it work on ps3?
I think so. Coincidentally, I'm here for a PS3 card, too.
Its $80 now, if that helps at all
아...... 제꺼 LIve mini...어쩐지....obs 설정 겁나게 건드려도 화질 구리더만...ㅠ^ ㅠ
I just got the cam link 4k for $99 so much better product in my opinion p
I tested it under Ubuntu 16 lts and Kubuntu (newest) and it works perfectly!
Do you use this with non-camera captures? Is there any down-side to just using that as a cheap 4k general-purpose capture card?
@@SuperDerek I've used it to capture high bitrate video game capture from what I can tell it works great
"Do you use this with non-camera captures?"
Rarely but does work well. Keep in Mind it does not have an ASIC inside do accelerate De/Encoding
" Is there any down-side to just using that as a cheap 4k general-purpose capture card?"
YES. Devices that switch Resolutions are not easy on it. You might need to De and Reactivate the Source in Source Menu (OBS) if Resolution changes cause it might not catch it.
Hi jeff,I need your help, I have a gigabyte geforce GTX 1660 6 GB gaming OC card. I can't found which corsair GPU water block will fit this card, PLEASE can you help me here , PS love the Ch
I don't believe Corsair makes a waterblock for the 1660. If it's a custom card, you may not have much luck at all. Reference PCB you might be able to find something from EK or AlphaCool.
Thanks mate.

I'm here because my Avermedia Live Gamer Mini stream quality looked like garbage. This confirms it's not me as well.
If there was a definition of sounding like a neek then it is this guy.
this should be 60$ not 130$ damn
MicroUSB should be dead. Plain and simple. Even disregarding the image quality, I simply refuse to buy any device that still uses microUSB.
