Quattro voci splendide all'unisono che sembrano quasi una voce sola uscente da una divinità....
Sono grata per questa sensazione.
What a quartet!!!! UNRIVALLED. ...makes your heart race;
a Masterclass for all present and future generations of singers.
Sadly nowadays ,we only can "dream" of such a thrilling rendition .
My sentiments precisely.
In una parola? Un mix di tensione, apprensione, tenerezza, fragilità, il tutto tenuto insieme su un filo d'equilibrista. Grand'intensità, grand'orchestra, grandi voci. Grazie per averlo condiviso:)
What is amazing aside from the obviously stupendous voices is the sheer lyricism - it’s like poetry. This is so important in understanding the tense situation that is unfolding here. Sometimes these Verdi moments can turn into shouting matches. This quartet however may as well as be singing the Verdi Requiem - so grateful that these recordings exist. They are testaments to a level of greatness which is all but gone.
Siepi's entrance on a beautiful mezza voce suggests interior reflection! Which Simionato then matches! So that you have two suffering unrequited lovers (for others) plumbing the depths in the middle of a very public scene--Verdi at his best. I would have loved to hear Leontyne Price sing Elisabetta for this scene alone, which is similar to the HOSTIAS in the Requiem.
Oh my word, I literally said the same exact thing a minute ago!
che meraviglia!
Riposa in pace Sena, assieme a loro!
meraviglioso quartetto!
What a great performance of wonderful work! amazing singers! Thanks!
