That’s such a beautiful tank, “simple” and very zen. I’ve been trying to scape a four foot tank as a blackwater aquarium for a while but I haven’t been happy with any on the layouts I’ve tried. Then I saw this and thought I’d have a go something similar - and I’m soooooo pleased with the results. So thank you for being so inspiring!
I’m working on a 90 gallon black water tank. This video helped a lot. Loved the fish. I’ve caught a few of those pumpkinseeds before when I was a kid. Suitland stand up. 💪🏾
I’ve been watching this channel for some time now-I think it’s such a shame it isn’t more widespread. The quality is excellent and wonderfully educational.
Excellent video articulation ... Excellent video quality ... Its among the top quality channel i have come across... Keep uploading as i enjoy watching them over n over
🤣😂🤣😂 Ok Alex! Willy Soto here and I enjoyed your sense of humor in this video…the part with the over filled wine glass 🍷 That was genius 👏🏽👏🏽🤙🏽 Great job again I’m really liking your videos 🤙🏽🤙🏽
I'm in Australia and for blackwater I use dried Banksia cones as well as the branches, bark and dried leaves off the paperbark tree - Melaleuca quinquenervia which is a member of the Melaleuca family of Australian natives from which we get Melafix.
Amazing video! I cannot get over how wonderful the quality of your video and audio is. I've always been interested in blackwater tanks, so I greatly appreciate you releasing a video on this topic! :) Definitely adding more motivation for me to setup my own blackwater tank.
dude your videos are awesome. your voice is so relaxing. pls do this full-time. its lovely. this Dustin kid gives me nerves.. you calm me down and take me to the beauty of nature
Amazing, informative video. Thank you for not screaming, like so many others do. What are your thoughts about using Mopani wood? It sinks well and releases tannins for such a long time, but I rarely see it being recommended. Is there something I'm missing? Thank you. I'm planning my first blackwater tank.
Just found your videos and I'm about to binge watch all of them! I'm planning to start a tank soon and your vids are so informative and I love your presenting style and soothing voice. Keep up the good work!
Beautiful tank! I love the leaves and the local fish! The audio was absolutely fine for me. Perhaps the other people adjusted the speed on a previous video they watched and forgot to change it back?
Thank you very much for filming our Blackwater tank at Glen Echo Park Aquarium. Your video is amazing and captures the beauty of our pumpkin seeds and crayfish!
The almond leaves link goes to a dog dietary supplement. The alder cones link goes to a dead product. Could use an update (was trying to buy through your links to support this awesome overview).
I love black water biotopes and this one is gorgeous. the beautiful sunfish are perfect choice. I like to hear what the experience aquascapers use, so would have been interested in hearing about the hardware, lights, filter, etc. I'm guessing there is a sump (?) but awesome video...thanks so much.
Gorgeous and informative video! Can you elaborate a little on filtration and water changes? I know people have success with no-filter tanks if they are well planted but I assume a filter is needed with this type of set up. Thanks :0)
I really want someone to make a very calm video about making a beautiful aquascape like this one and say "this aquascape is so supple and was designed with perfect thirds. Now enough of this intro, we are going to be adding the perfect fish for this tank. Lets dive in..." then they drop their phone into the water and start cussing like a sailor.
They decay overtime, but it is okay. Shrimp and other fish enjoy eating the biofilm that grow on it as it decays. Really, it's some of the best food for shrimp.
The Bob Ross of aquarium UA-cam channel narration.
Bed time story aquarium style or some spiritual relaxing thing.
this guys voice is so calming it makes me angry, but then calms me again. Now I'm just stuck in a cycle. please help

Dude, I didn't just like it, I watched it a second time for replay value. This is medicine for the soul!
i love this one!!!!! Really well done Alex (and Nick).
Thanks Rachel (and Nick)!
Hi Rachel
Wow! this was some national geographic quality of presenting. Really enjoyed it, now to go back and watch your other vids 👍
Within the first few seconds I fell in love with Alex's voice. He sound like a national geographic narrator.
Thank you!
You are the Babish of UA-camr aquarists. So well done and informative. A beautiful aquarium showcased too.
Love the science and ecological approach asides from the typical aesthetic approach of other channels
This is my favourite video on your channel. I find myself re-watching it over and over again.
Beautiful! Love the native tank!
I'm addicted to your videos, so calming and informative.
I’ve been watching this channel for some time now-I think it’s such a shame it isn’t more widespread. The quality is excellent and wonderfully educational.
This must have been filmed on a Monday the way you poured that wine! :-)
The content I no doubt awesome! The best part is the professional quality narration & documentary style presentation!

Another great one! Love this style of tank, just a natural simplicity to it.

jootai dustin is a crazy dude I don't like his video. This chanel it A lot better
Yeah I have kinda lost interest in dustin. Especially when he said fancy goldfish, and several other fish have horrible lives. Not true.
ASMR
Thank you for this highest quality video! Very enjoyable yet informative!

omg you should become a voice actor, such a soothing voice should be heard more!
Very helpful - thank you!
Audio is excellent for me - Love your vids! !

Great production quality. You make me want to get into cinematography!
Beautiful tank! I love the leaves and the local fish! The audio was absolutely fine for me. Perhaps the other people adjusted the speed on a previous video they watched and forgot to change it back?
101 like and 0 dislikes, amazing. Of course, who would dislike such an amazing quality video
Im subscribing because the wine part had me geeking
Informative, relaxing, and inspiring. Great content and presentation. Thank you.
Bob Caylor thank you! That’s very kind!

Hey, me again. Another great video. I can't believe I haven't seen you before! Good job! Please keep it up.
Love this video! I have access to an unlimited supply of oak leaves but was hesitant to put them in my aquarium...not anymore! Thank you!
Beautiful looking tank. Nice set up 🔥💪🏼
*Great work Alex!*
Quite an interesting video and information.
Fantastic video, Alex!
Rachel sent me and I am so pleased she did. I am staying now I am here.

This is great!
I built my own black water native biotope tank with white river crayfish and bullfrog tadpoles.
Top Quality Video

Amazing video work, for sure !

Lot's of love from India
Came for an aquarium video, found that + ASMR.
Subscribed at the wine.
Beautiful tank
I like to add leave unboiled , it instantly creates an explosion of paramecia and tiny worms as live food.
Thank you very much for filming our Blackwater tank at Glen Echo Park Aquarium. Your video is amazing and captures the beauty of our pumpkin seeds and crayfish!
How often do we need to change water in such scape...
so beautiful bro thank you for video...
Great video!
The almond leaves link goes to a dog dietary supplement. The alder cones link goes to a dead product. Could use an update (was trying to buy through your links to support this awesome overview).
Thanks. I’ll spend some time this week updating all these dead links!
Amazing! Love it!
Great video

Thanks for the comment. I'll make a note of the hardware question for future videos!
This aquarium only has a hang on box filter.
verry nice tank
Ilove biotopes! Im amazed with this... beautiful! Just subbed :)
Great vedio quality
2:45 Is there really any wildlife left in DC?
its a giant city
I have a question 👋 After you boil the leaves, can you pour the water you just boiled with the leaves into your tank after it cools down??
Did you mention the temp and ph? I realize temp depends of the fish but goes the temperature affect the ph of the water of the decay rate
Final COVID project is to build a 20 gallon lower Susquehanna River biotope. Any tips?
1:59 No No No , lets go back to the tank 😂😂
Hey what’s the best/cheapest tank to buy
0:48 fish eyes🤯
Gorgeous and informative video! Can you elaborate a little on filtration and water changes? I know people have success with no-filter tanks if they are well planted but I assume a filter is needed with this type of set up. Thanks :0)
Looks just like the stuff i trip over and slip on when fly fishing 😆
What is the first algae to colonise the waters of a natural fish tank with organic matter inside it,,,, and why?
Boil the leaves for about how long?
This is so cool. I'm inspired and will be setting one of these up in the 125 i got. Amazing
What tank size would you suggest for a South American Biotope Aquarium?
Pumpkin seeds are also delicious

The leafs won’t rot ?
They decay overtime, but it is okay. Shrimp and other fish enjoy eating the biofilm that grow on it as it decays. Really, it's some of the best food for shrimp.
What size is the tank? Also, is that crayfish a Procambarus clarkii?
It’s native to the east coast of the US, I don’t know the species though. I believe the tank is a 40 breeder.
what are the fish in the thumbnail
My ph is 6.4 i only put fish that live in blackwater and if you put a fish that like high ph it will die
You can find these sun fishes all over in rivers and ponds here in France its invasive
Is the voiceover sped up or is that just me?
Alas, I believe it is just you. It's possible that Nick and I had too much coffee?
haley2245 it is for me too
😮😮😮 !!
The voiceover is sped up for me too. Video part is great though.
Having audio issues here as well. 😕
alex can you give me the fish id, please ?
Audio just a bit too boomy. Otherwise great stuff.
You need a permit to keep them... glad I moved from MD. lol I would be in serious trouble.....
Audio problem...
This tank need a wave maker
Look at the White stuff on the water top
Are you Robot?
I mean your voice 🤔🤔
Im from dc

That water is clear as shit 😂
A foot long? Try more like 6” max or you have a world record
