While you may not be needing to hire me for your running at this time, if you have valued my content or help and want to buy my next coffee, you can make a donation here: www.buymeacoffee.com/kylekranz. Thank you so much!
haha, yeah that "hill" at the end is affectionately called "Mt. Roosevelt" which is Roosevelt Rd. Its the last street before you hang a left for the home stretch to the finish line. Under normal circumstances nobody would notice the slight incline but after running 26 miles, it does feel like you are climbing a mountain. Good luck to us all at the Chicago Marathon!
As a Chicagoan who has run- I second the dinner reservations piece but more so for the night BEFORE the race if you’re trying to get a specific type of meal in.
Good call! I almost always do my own, even premade or purchased food the night before so didn't even think of that. Lately it's been sushi the night before 😀
A few more tips, book a restaurant for Saturday night too, not necessarily an Italian, rice is also high in carbs. Remember mega marathons are popular with national and international running groups of 10-15+ that might fill up any restaurant. The second half has little shade as there are fewer taller buildings, a cap/visor (as well as sunglasses )is very useful and also if you’re hot, the water you pour on your head won’t stream into your eyes. For any race, Even if you’re not left handed take fluids from the left hand side of the road and switch to your right hand. Unless you run with the Kenyans you won’t waste much time. 90%+ of the population is right handed and automatically head to the right for drinks. I take a 600mg ibuprofen which is in my post race gear to help with the pain. YMMV.
Thanks Kyle for the last minute advice for Chicago. This Sunday will be my first. I am very excited! Thank God the weather will be ideal. Are you running?
