@@zandrus9191 : Sorry - have since found out that only a handful of navalised Junkers Ju-87C-0 carrier aircraft could jettison their landing gear, so that they could ditch on water safely. The Ju-87C-0 was designed to operate from the German carrier Graf Zeppelin, which was never completed.
I purchased the game on Steam for 8 bucks and downloaded VIP MOD and still can't get it to work. I have extracted files for a few decades now but still nothing seems to work. Back to IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles. 😢
The Ju-87 is a specialised dive bomber, equipped with brakes on the wings. The name "Stuka" is short for "Sturzkampfbomber", which, translated word by word is: "dive - fight - bomber". The US SBD and SB2C helldivers work the same way.
The Stuka could dive at angles up to 110°(!) but could drop bombs only to 90°. In a prolonged dive the speed exceeded 750km/h. When attacking well defended targets (like Carriers) the did not extend the dive brakes but used a full power speed dive to get at the target ASAP. When attacking manouvring ships the used the "Treppensturz" (~ stair dive) doing wingovers at certain intervals to change the direction of the dive. The Stukapilots where the creme de la creme of the Luftwaffe.
Spielt das noch jemand 2018? Hab's mir mal vor langer Zeit gekauft und war bissl enttäuscht, aber nun mit IL 2 BOS bin ich total zufrieden. 🙂 VR ist natürlich Pflicht!

The spits should have had a field day, especially with J87s having no escort! Equally bad was the AA!
In real life, the Ju-87 Stuka was able to jettison its fixed landing gear in order to make belly landings or ditch on water.
