I am a Rhodesian and some of my school friends were Portuguese. Moreover, I have happy memories of holidays in Mozambique. In short, I have affection and respect for the Portuguese people.
I am a Rhodie, born in Umtali, lived in Salisbury and a Portuguese citizen. I live in Portugal since 1981. I arrived here, in Portugal, i was a 8 year old child but always questioned why should i put in my identity card that i was born in zimbabwe since i was born in Rhodesia, and always tried to put the real place were i was born. My requests were always denied. Today they recognise that i wasnt born in zimbabwe but they still dont recognize i was born in UDI Rhodesia, but in South Rhodesia, its not perfect but better than before. Sorry for my poor english. ;)

Rhodesia was the second most powerful country in the region and had the third largest white population. For instance, according to the 'Encyclopaedia Rhodesia', the whites ‘reached 250,000 for the first time in 1971.’ Neighbouring Mozambique (a Portuguese colony) was in fourth place because a census in 1970 showed that it was home to 163,000 whites. Another Portuguese colony, Angola, had the region’s second largest white population, a total of 280,000 in 1970. The country with the largest white population was South Africa. In 1974 a census recorded that there were 4,160,000 whites. (These figures are from Claudia Castelo’s book ‘Passagens para Africa’ and ‘Hutchinson’s Encyclopaedia’).
Sarawak and Rhodesia has the same similar situation.. Rhodesia used to be a nice country, and so do we, we have the best anthem and Rhodesia too, until the arrival of the country of zimbabwe taking over.. just like Malaysia, Malaysia taking all our rights! edit: I misspelled Zimbabwe as Zimbobuwe lol, apology

Portugal needs some recognition, they were the only European nation to help Rhodesia.
And rodesia helps portugal in colonial war
Before or after Portuguese people kicked out their Fascist Dictator ?
Actually, France and Italy helped a lot also.

That is a very interesting story, my friend. Maybe someday you can return to your homeland... but sadly it is in a worse state.

I live in England, and I feel Salisbury in the past looks really similar to Northern English cities. Rhodesia used to be such a civilised nation.
Listen to our national anthem and looking at these pictures I find it extremely difficult not to damp a tear. Long live Rhodesia and Rhodesia forever.
Yes especially since it was a beacon of law and order within the region

Incredible to imagine what we can built around the world. A country, completely from scratch.
