A fawn sliding into 3rd base

  • Sometimes the white-tailed deer fawns get an attack of the zoomies. They may look frail, but they're surprisingly strong and they can run like the wind. So on a beautiful spring day, when mama is nearby keeping watch and the joy of being alive overcomes them, off they go - sprinting, leaping, and bucking.
We often wonder what's going through their heads when they're zooming around. Perhaps this little fawn imagined that she was playing baseball? There she was on 2nd base, with the whole team depending on her to make it to 3rd... And she slides! And she's safe on 3rd!

Beautiful!!!! ❤❤❤The happiest moment I remember is the fawn playing with his mother with the water sprinkler one summer afternoon. 🤩🥰💖

Wasn't that fun? This past summer was so incredibly hot and once they got the hang of the sprinkler they really enjoyed it.

Here's hoping we have more fawns this coming spring and that they make it through to adulthood. They are beautiful little creatures.

One of my biggest joys when I had my small farm in NC 30 years ago, was watching my baby goats. They'd get spastic, race around and even do back flips. Rarely would their ever notice me guffawing at them!
They would also play "king of the mountain" with my old billy goat, who was not their father, I might add! They would jump onto his back and try to knock each other off. He would just stand there, allowing the kids to play.

I just saw a video of baby goats playing and it was absolutely fabulous. They were almost dancing. I wish we had a few goats here.

@@TexasBackyardWildlife Indeed! I had them for a clean up crew to rid 15 acres of blackberries and poison ivy. I had 2 that I milked and I NEVER got poison ivy again. I had a friend that had run a goat's milk cheese operation. She told me that it's like the snake venom/antivenom effect. The goat milk essentially created an "ani-ivy"!

OK, that's very interesting. You managed to cure yourself of poison ivy sensitivity by drinking the milk of goats who had eaten poison ivy. Do you think you got tiny doses of the allergen and just got used to it? I know some allergy treatments work that same way. Makes me want goats even more.

@@TexasBackyardWildlife All I know is that I would get poison ivy frequently though out my life and never got it again while I was drinking goat's milk.
If you DO get goats, they are escape artists when it comes to fencing. I used "Sears hog fencing" which had small openings at the bottom & got progressively larger for a 40" height. I used it to fence my 21 acres, as well as cross fencing. This was in the 80s before the Sears catalog disappeared. I lived in a tiny rural NC town and we had our own closet sized catalog store. I miss the good old days!

I’m so glad you guys are back with the videos! This one was pretty funny, fawns are so cute and clumsy. Last week, I was taking a video of a large deer family I saw in my yard, and they actually started approaching me staring at me dead on. I wasn’t sure if it was out of curiosity or if they felt threatened and were about to attack so I quickly backed off and went inside the garage 😂 so glad to see more deer content from you guys. They’re such fascinating and silly creatures

Marina, you may have inspired us to post a video we took a few years ago of a young buck who suddenly became very friendly and began following me around the yard. In the end we had to literally dodge him to get back into the house - he was going to come in after us. It was the silly season, but I definitely don't look like a doe, and it was the most astonishing episode. Normally, the deer keep their distance, though they will walk towards us sometimes - it seems like curiosity, mainly.
